Better World, for a better world!

11 May 2010

A Better World Cafe is the most progressive establisment to eat in the state. The vegan options are labeled on their dry erase board with a "V" but included within the regular menu as not to disclude it from the general population ordering. Their quinoa burger is my favorite and their vegan desserts have included amazing muffins, scones, and cookies. You can choose your portion size as to not waste any food or eat more than you want. Everything you throw out including napkins and food is composted. In a time when eating vegan food out can be very expensive, A Better World comes to the rescue for those who can't afford those expensive places. It's a shame that there can't be more than four stars given, this is a genuine place.

Humanese!

17 May 2010

I've had very little experience with raw food but what I got at Au Lac was amazing! I had the Humanese raw soup and it is probably one of the top 10 favorite things I've ever had. I was in CA without internet access (and thus no Happy Cow) and just happened to find this place on my GPS. The waiter was nice enough to recommend other vegan places in the area to me and I was very happy with his suggestions!

Uniformed, over priced

17 May 2010

We were served a "vegan" pizza, told it was vegan only to find out later that it wasn't. I asked if they had vegan butter and the waitress laughed at me. This is not a place for vegans, just seafood eating yuppies.

Great Buffet!

11 Jan 2011

Chand Palace has a pretty big selection of Indian food. They're very accomodating in letting you know which items are and aren't vegan. The prices can be pretty expensive, but if you're a big eater you can make it worth it!

Raw food never tasted so good!

13 Nov 2010

I have a nut allergy so raw food can be a tricky situation for me. The 118 degrees staff was more than accommodating with my nut allergy making me four amazing dishes in my two visits. My first visit was for lunch and my girlfriend and I got the Lunch special which was only $10 for three courses. I have yet to come across a better way to spend $10, it was all completely delicious! Our next visit was for dinner which also included my aunt from Northern California who works in a raw restaurant. While dinner was a little more pricey, we were all entirely impressed with the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff!

Vegan junk food

04 May 2010

I've been there a few times, sometimes I loved what I had, other times I got sick and regretted what I ate. Take a gamble!

Fake meat, but Great cheesecake!

17 May 2010

I've had two trips to Kingdom of Vegetarians so far. Being a vegan vegan (I don't like fake meat) there is little for me to choose from. I ordered Mushu vegetables with pancakes and I tried to order a side of brown rice and was denied. "No! you don't eat rice with Mushu it comes with pancakes!". The mushu was very greasy/salty and I couldn't even eat half of it. It seems like the main reason to go to any vegetarian Asian eatery is if they have good dessert and they certainly delievered on that. They had an awesome chocolate vegan cheesecake that I would go back again just to get.

Some good unique items

16 Nov 2014

I'm not a big fan of Loving Huts in general, with their menus largely consisting of "faux meat" TP dishes. But the Matawan location has added some decent items since they first opened that are unique to their location. Some of my favorites have included the mozzarella sticks, Caesar salad, and quinoa salad. Their owner is a very nice guy who will talk veganism with you and seems to get to know his customers by name.

I liked it better than the NJ location...

04 May 2010

The Loving Hut NYC is located a short walk from Penn Station and is reasonable for a vegan place in New York City. They offer free tea and water which they don't in New Jersey. The staff was very friendly!

Ethiopian food is awesome!

I was so excited after eating at Makeda for the first time! The food is great, it just can be really expensive! Just ask about which items are vegan!

Fast Food goes vegetarian

20 May 2010

Maoz has a small selection of either falafal or salad bar with side options of two kinds of french fries and three kinds of juices. The prices are reasonable but they sort of suck you in with "free salad bar" with purchase of a falafal but what they don't tell you is that your "free salad" is whatever you can fit on your sandwich. There are some good salad bar options but a few of the items are not vegan. The fact that a vegetarian chain restaurant exists in NJ is awesome. The fact that it only has falafal in a city where a ton of falafal places already exist is a let down.

The only all vegan food source in NJ

03 May 2010

Namaste has delicious wraps, juices, smoothies, and sometimes salad. This is a New Brunswick hangout, don't expect to be in and out in under an hour! Weekend nights sometimes feature events including live music, art, and films

Vegan Pub food

17 May 2010

Pure Luck has an amazing garbanzo bean sandwich. I was there in October 2009 and had gotten the deep fried pickles (you need vegan junk food every now and then). in January 2010 they had greatly reduced the amount of food that you get but the price was the same. They did at least warn me when I ordered that the serving size was reduced. Nicely located across from a place that has vegan ice cream!

Vegan pizza!

12 May 2010

The thing that kept me from transitioning from vegetarian to vegan for a little while was my love for pizza. Now that I'm vegan, I'm ever so greatful to be able to eat vegan pizza! I've had a few different pizzas along with the "meatball sub" with kofta balls that resemble falafal more so than any kind of meat. Hopefully more pizza places pick up vegan menus!

Forget the trendy chain stores, go here!

03 May 2010

George Street Co-Op is the New Brunswick area's source for vegan and vegetarian food. Not everything is vegetarian mostly the vitamins and the staff themselves are mostly un-informed non-vegans. But at least you don't have to support a corporate chain and smell the stench of death while you shop!

Vegan food is back in Red Bank!

13 Nov 2010

For those that have missed Down To Earth the last few years, this place is for you! Great selection of vegan foods including some that used to be on the old Down to Earth menu and including some raw options. As previously stated the place is small and can be busy so you may have to wait to be seated.

Go for the buffet!

17 May 2010

I've been to Govinda's a few times and have always liked what I've gotten. The all you can eat buffet is the best deal you can get, and if you can eat you can get your money's worth. The last time I was there about 5 months ago, my girlfriend and I got an amazing pumpkin cake for dessert and we still talk about how good it was to this day. I tried calling the number listed on here and it seems to be wrong the person who answered they number provided gave me another number to call which was only a voicemail.

For those on the run...

11 Jan 2011

I've been to Govinda's a few times and have always done the buffet. I finally got to just the Cafe and tried some different things (Kofta ball sandwich, samosas, cheesecake) all of which were great! My vegan and non-vegan friends alike rejoiced in what they got.
