Everything is great - Edit
Everything was so great, but only the rainbow dessert was so little, not as a big plate with 6 slides anymore. No heart shape chocolates either.

Great Pho! - Edit
Came here exclusively to try the vegan pho, and it did not disappoint! The broth was light, flavorful, and delicious. I’m not usually a huge fan of fake meats, but the vegan chicken was great and added substance to the light dish. The noodles tasted fresh and not overly cooked.
Read moreThe atmosphere is moody and upscale (as are the prices), so it seems more appropriate for dinner than lunch. The menu is extensive, so I would definitely go back to try more.
FYI parking can be difficult as it’s downtown by the Disney concert hall. You can park in the lot below for $12, or walk a few blocks from the red line.

First and still the best - Edit
Au Lac was the first fully vegan restaurant I went to in the late 1990s. It was great then, and has only gotten better since. So creative and delicious, from apps to desserts, juices to entrees.

All the food here is amazing! There are two kitchens: one for standard fare, and the other with raw food. One location, so you can mix and match.

Excellent Raw Food! - Edit
Have a whole raw “living” section in the menu. Wish I could have tried it all! Only wish they had more desserts with dates or other natural raw sweeteners. They all had sugar or maple syrup.

Closes randomly + confusing takeout experience - Edit
They have the open sign lit up but wouldn't seat us. Seemingly, they dont stay open past 8:30 even though it says 9:30 closing. I asked them to update their hours on Google for clairty, but they refused and said we just need to call if we plan on coming again, to double-check if the hours are right day by day.
Read moreFirst, they said they were completely closed. Then they said they're open for takeout. When we tried to order, they said some dishes weren't available. But then they'd change their mind and say they are. I guess, just based on whatever they felt like making.
What we got for takeout was confusing. They left out so many of the ingredients that were listed in the menu item descriptions. And they gave us a stack of hard, unprepared rice paper wrappers along with components of each dish we ordered. A lot of what we ordered was forgotten entirely.. and this was a $100 order! We didn't even realize this until we got back to our hotel. But before we left, they offered us a free piece of cake. I dont feel like that makes up for all the problems

Quality has gone down - Edit
The quality has gone down. I had charred pieces in my food. When I showed the staff, they said it was pepper. It's not pepper. Even though I've been going there for years, I won't be returning.

Not sure why you say this, we go nearly weekly and have for over 20 yrs. What is that ashy smudge? And not sure what dish you show but it's in a clear glass bowl and they don't use those. I think you went to another place and just said it was Au Lac when it wasn't.

Amazing food here! - Edit
I've been coming here since 1998, just after they opened. I have never found another place that has the same delicious taste and flavors as Au Lac. Mai the owner is the sweetest lady, very generous as well. We've had many "samples" of her dishes (full entree!) and each one just amazing. They have so many greens, broccoli, napa cabbage, string beans etc. Every person I ever brought here to dine has loved it.

Two menus. The raw menu prepared by a man that took a vow of silence, which I had the pleasure of meeting. Gourmet raw food done right. This place changed what I thought was possible with flavors and inspired me to raise my own bar in the kitchen. Thank you!

This was great vegan Vietnamese food - we stayed away from the raw selections. We had BBQ Pork Rolls, Royal Noodle Soup and Kung Pau with tofu, all great. We tried the donut holes and did not care for them much.

A little pricey for what you get - Edit
This place has a really nice cozy atmosphere. The food was pretty good but not amazing. It wasn't super flavorful. We had to wait quite a while for a table and staff seemed a little disorganized though friendly and helpful. I love that this place is fully vegan and even has raw options. My biggest complaint was just the amount of food you get for the price wasn't great.

I was recommended Au Lac by two different Happy Cowers and it did not disappoint. From the delicious food to the service, it was top notch! We ordered many things which were all delicious. We ordered curried rice, crispy seafood noodles, pork roll, egg roll, and humanese soup. The humanese soup was exceptional. As stated in the beginning, service is fantastic. With all of the things we ordered, the bill wasn’t bad. Do yourself a favor and pay a visit if in the area.
