Very Good Food
28 Aug 2012
Very good food at the counter which you can see and choose. They dish it out for you. I had several of the items. This brief review applies to all 3 of the restaurants that I tried - Strictly Vegetarian, Scoops, and Four Seasons. The owners and operators are from the islands, and their food is all very similar.

I picked up a few things to eat on my way through Portland before going back to stay for a week. I went twice. Nice selection of everything.

Vegan Thai - 'Nuf said.

When visiting Seattle, this is my favorite eating place. It's been in business a long time, because it's popular. It's popular, because of the food, whether you're a vegan or a carnivore.

All Vegan Indian Food
15 Jul 2014
It's Indian, AND it's healthy. It's not only all vegan, but the owner is very conscious of health problems with gluten and soy as well. My only issue is that I like very spicy food, and this food is for most Americans - mild.

I've never seen so many different items on the menu - and there's 2 menus - one raw and one cooked. I was only staying for a few days. It's not fair. There were too many items that I wanted to try. I went 3 times, and tried 3 different things - all great. I can't wait to get back.

Took a friend, and between us, we had 5 food items. All were very creative and different from what you'll find elsewhere. 2 were good, 1 was very good and 2 were outrageously good. These are my tastes, so rather than say which was which, I would suggest just get anything, and you won't go wrong. I'm anxious to go back and try the rest of the menu.

Wide variety but mediocre
03 Oct 2014
A very large restaurant, sweet shop, take-out counter, and frozen food section. The buffet counters are full of the widest variety (for a buffet) of mediocre tasting Indian food that I've ever seen. Not many choices for a vegan.

Simply the Best

This area was ripe for this type of restaurant, and with the competition from other types of good restaurants in the area, it has to be great. Even if there were other Raw, Vegan restaurants in the area, Cacao Tree would probably still be the best. Wonderful, helpful waitstaff, friendly, cozy atmosphere, soups, salads, wraps and sandwiches area all great. And, if you're a chocolate lover, well.......go experience it for yourself.
If you're not familiar with the area, it may not be the easiest to find, but word of mouth about this place is spreading fast and those in the area have discovered it. Those outside the area will find it worth the search. The easiest way to find it is to park in the large public parking structure (free until 5pm). Walk out of the south end of the structure, and the Cacao Tree is right in front of you on the right.

Not Easy to Find But Worth It.

The address is for the front of the building. Carrot N' Dates is on the side of the building and below street level. Great salads, soups, smoothies, and deserts. All healthy and tasty.

Amongst the best.

I went there twice last year. The menu is very extensive - breakfast and dinner. Lots of options. The people are very accommodating. The food was great. AND, DESSERTS!
I went there again this year. Still great.

A Welcome Vegan Treat for Lucky Farmington

I've eaten there twice and going back again soon. I've had several items and all were delicious. Friendly, bright, simple, maybe even a slightly elegant. They are still testing certain menu items. Even if it stays the way it is, it's great. If they make changes, it will only get better. I have high hopes for this place, and I want it to stick around for a long time.

Indian, Mexican, Italian, etc.

Finally, I was traveling in an area of Chicago that allowed me to go back to Chowpatti's. I was there 9 years ago for a few meals and last week, I ate there twice. I eat a lot of Indian food at many restaurants in the Detroit area, where I live, and around the country when traveling. Chowpatti's has menu items common to other Indian restaurants and items that most other Indian restaurants don't have. Most Indian restaurants serve just the Americanized Indian items. It is a treat to find the real thing at Chowpatti's.
It's not cheap, but there's a couple of reasons. They're better than everyone else and part of it is because they don't use canned anything. It's all made from fresh everything. What a difference.
The last time that I was there, I tried their Italian and their Middle East cuisine - also great.
I can't believe that there is only one other review for Chowpatti's. If you're in the area, take the opportunity to eat there, especially if you like Indian food.

Maybe better than average
24 Feb 2014
The first time I went for the buffet, it was fantastic. The next 2 times, it was average. Their buffet has maybe 30% vegan options. Included with the buffet, they bring great dosas to the table. It deserves 3 1/2 cows.

Traveling from out of town, we had time for one more meal before leaving Milwaukee. We decided to try this pizzeria. What fun. The slices of pizza are huge. You actually get a mini-sized pizza in the shape of a huge slice. 2 slices are roughly the equivalent of a small pizza anywhere else. The choices for toppings are beyond the usual - jalapenos, cilantro, etc. Great taste. Vegan options. Very unusual and interesting salads.

This is the biggest Indian restaurant that I've ever seen. I love the looks of the place - especially downstairs. It was very crowded. I had to wait in line, which lead me to believe that I was in for a real treat. After soup, an appetizer, and a meal, I have no idea why it's so popular. It can't be the food.
I have eaten in many Indian restaurants all over the U.S. and Canada. It's my favorite food, but not at this place.

Good but not great

I'm always grateful for raw, organic, vegan restaurants, so that in itself makes this restaurant worth the trip.

I've eaten at many middle eastern restaurants in the last few decades and I eat Lebanese/middle eastern food at least once a week. I had several items in this place and they were all so-so. I have no interest in eating there again.
