Glad I got a chance to eat here before it closes next week! Great spot with a ton of options. Particularly loved the mushroom calamari.

Delightful! - Edit
I brought my mom (a non-vegan from Texas) here and she said she couldn’t believe some of the food was vegan. It’s a really beautiful restaurant and the food is amazing! I will be returning.

Not Great - Edit
I hate to say it but we did not really enjoy the experience at Modern Love at all. We were there for Sunday brunch and ordered the calamari as an appetizer, chickpea parm hero with fries, and the hot honey chicken sandwich with potato salad. The calamari had a nice crunch but the sauces it came with were strange. It was like a Chipotle mayo and a cocktail type sauce when we had expected something like a tartar sauce. The chickpea sandwich was good but could have used more marinara and less pesto/arugula. The fries were cooked well but had almost a fishy flavor? The hot honey chicken was not hot at all just really sweet and was cold, probably because it was loaded with slaw. The potato salad had a very strange taste, maybe too much Dijon and we each took only one bite and both got a sandy type crunch, not sure what that was about. Sad to say we didn’t enjoy after years of wanting to get here.

Loved it. - Edit
Maybe Im biased because i wanted to come here so badly for my love of icm‘s recipes. But our visit at modern love did not dissapoint. On the contrary, the food was amazing, comforting, and filling (huge portions). We shared brokkolini with tempeh to start. I had the mac and shews, my partner the seasonal dish, turki pot pie. We were both satisfied afterwards and stuffed. The service was really good, too. Friendly and accomodating. Someone here mentioned the music being too loud, which I would second. Apart from that nothing to criticise. I‘m really happy I got to visit and enjoy a dinner at modern love.

Really enjoyed 3 out of 4 dishes! - Edit
I had tried Modern Love for delivery years back and remembered liking the food, but the food tasted even better in person! Went for brunch today on a holiday long weekend—no problem snagging a table as a walk-in. The ambience was cute, although the music was a touch loud and the ceiling fans were a bit overpowering for a fall weather day.
Read moreThe waitstaff were very friendly! The service was quite quick. Pricy but generous portions.
Tried 4 dishes and really enjoyed the first three!
1. Truffle Poutine - quite tasty but not reminiscent of a true Poutine. Not sure if the cashew cheese curds were particularly appetizing but the other elements were inviting and yummy
2. Shroom & Grits - very good! Probably my fave dish of the three. Very good mix of textures with the fried oyster mushrooms and the mushy grits. Felt very cozy.
3. Classic Mac & Shews - The fried tofu was excellent! Super good with delicious breading and nice, subtle flavor. The mac and cheese was also good, but the bright orange coloring was a bit intense and began to taste a little one-note after several bites. Would have enjoyed it more as a side dish in terms of saturated flavor and more reasonable price. ($24 seems like a lot of mac and cheese)
4. Apple Spice French Toast — was very dry, pretty bland, and overall lackluster. The cinnamon apples were too sweet. They forgot the maple syrup initially but it made it taste a bit better. Still not great. Would not recommend.
As an aside, the bathrooms were clean and very cutely decorated with the forest animal wallpaper!

I had the mushroom calamari as a starter and then the mushroom and walnut burger as the main. For my drink, I had a jalapeño margarita. Everything was great. I was so full afterwards. Will go back again to try more dishes.

Isa Chandra Moskowitz is in my mind the most important vegan chef of the last 20 years. Her cookbooks are foundational for any vegan - approachable, interesting, and delicious. Eating at her restaurant is a showcase for her talents and I can’t recommend it enough.

Best Mac & "Cheese" EVER - Edit
True comfort food. We shared the Buffalo Wings as starters and they were delicious. I ordered "Classic Mac & Shews" with crispy tofu and MY GOD, one of the best dishes I have ever eaten in my life, I almost cried. The waiters were very friendly and made us feel very comfortable. 100% recommendable.

Isa Did It - Edit
This was somewhat of a pilgrimage for us - Isa's was my first vegan cookbook. I went simple, to learn how tofu and seitan SHOULD be cooked, by a pro. Flavors were great. I appreciated that there were healthy bowls on the menu, in addition to all of the "comfort" food vegan restaurants have started to serve (i.e., fried everything, burgers, etc.,). Isa is a star!

Isa Does It Again!! - Edit
Being a huge fan of Isa Chandra Moskowitz’s cookbooks, a trip to Modern Love felt like a pilgrimage, of sorts. Great little spot in Williamsburg, nice atmosphere, excellent drinks, and outstanding food. The Brussels Aioli were a perfect starter, and the Acorn Squash Curry was out of this world. Paired my food with a delicious non-alcoholic Blood Orange Margarita & left feeling full and satisfied! Highly recommend!

Favorite Vegan Restaurant - Edit
Modern Love is my FAVORITE vegan restaurant in NYC. The dining room is beautiful, and you gotta check out the bathroom wallpaper! We always love sitting outside in the beautiful purple parklet. Everything on the menu is vegan, and they have a great brunch on weekends. They have some of the best vegan Italian creations as well!
Read moreIf you stop for brunch, you must try the Challah French Toast as it's one of the best things I've ever tried. We were also able to go when they unveiled their new lunch hours and menu. I had a delicious vegan Hot Honee Chicken Sandwich that was fantastic! The prices are also very fair considering the great quality of food and large portions.
Pros: Beautiful atmosphere , Delicious food, Great variety

You Have to Go! - Edit
What didn't I love? I have been to Modern Love several times and each time I LOVE it more! They are always tweaking the menu and offer really delicious, creative specials. During our last visit we had the TV Dinner special which was an upgraded, vegan version of the 1970's frozen TV dinner. It had a little bit of everything and very filling! Some of the items were their famous mac & shrews with ranch, the mushroom fried chick'n and the mash & gravy PLUS a cute little brownie! It came in an actual tray too! They have great milkshakes and fun mixed bevs too!! Everything was SO good. This is a really nice, fun place for dinner. You have to check it out!

Was last there in 2018 and it was REALLY noisy - very difficult to have a conversation with my dining partner. Otherwise, I thought the food was GREAT - and yes, it was a bit pricey.
