Gourmet Vegan in Park City!

Everything on menu is clearly marked vegetarian, vegan and/or gluten free.

Of the four appetizers, one is vegan chicken bites the other is (I think vegan) onion bites. Vegetarian chili. A gourmet vegan beet salad. Vegan Baked Ratatouille and Vegan Organic Risotto! I was so excited about the menu at 501 on Main. I was impressed that almost half the dishes are veg*n and they don't hid the vegan dishes at the bottom of the menu.

Only went once, but service was good and food delish!

mini Whole Foods

Excellent selection of fresh organic veggies and fruit. Awesome, though very expensive, organic juice & smoothie bar when you first walk in. Olive bar. A very small salad bar. The deli has a few vegan items like Eggless Egg Salad and a kale salad. Great selection of refrigerated and frozen mock meats & vegan cheeses.

If you are headed to Sanibel Island, stop at Ada's first & load up on vegan supplies.

Consistently Great Food

I've been coming here for years. The quality of the food is always high. Front counter staff are friendly and efficient. I appreciate that they have so many specially marked veg*n options on the menu.

When you first walk in, you'll notice that the front part of the space is a small store featuring all manner of middle eastern groceries. They sell fabulous walnut and pistacio baklava that they import from a bakery in Chicago's north suburbs. Also specialty candies from the middle east and all kinds of staples like hummos, bags of pine nuts, etc.

The area where the place could use improvement is its cleanliness. When you first open the front door, it's greasy. Gross. And not a good first impression. The little plastic seat in the waiting area seems to always have bugs lodged in the crevice. And the place sometimes smells like smoke.

Adding Dinners

They're now doing dinners Fri & Sat 5-9pm. But call first!

Awesome in every way

I can't add much except to confirm the other excellent reviews on this site. Warm, welcoming feeling when you walk in. Friendly, kind staff. The food is fantastic.

I would especially recommend this restaurant to someone who is vegetarian trying to go vegan or to those who have friends or relatives who are skeptics of vegan cuisine. This restaurant is a showcase of just how flavorful vegan cuisine can be.

something for everyone

Difficult to find! They currently don't have a sign that is visible from the road. Accordingly, look for the sign that says "Sanibel Cafe". Among the Flowers is next door.

Vegans will be happy with their fresh made juices like Red Glo made with beet, carrot, apple & ginger. They also have smoothies, granola, chia pudding & a raw vegan truffle.

They do made-to-order lunches where you design your own sandwich. Ingredients include: mixed greens, spinach, cucumber, tomato, onion, capers, pickled jalapeño, sundries tomatoes, grilled veggies, olives, guacamole, hummus, kale, sprouts & nuts.

Also salads & pizza. Plenty of free parking in lot.

Amaze Balls!

What a find! This place is a hidden gem. Gourmet noms in a super casual, low key cafe. Its attached to the very cool hair salon next door & this cafe doubles as the waiting room. Huge vegan selection. Smoothies, juices, sandwiches, beer, desserts. Everything Ive had here has been delicious!

Vegan Pies!

For brunch they had a tofu scramble, vegan mac 'n' cheese, vegan chili, veggie pot pie, tofurkey sausage, smoothies, etc. For vegetarians, there was stuffed french toast, omelettes, quiche, lots to choose from. And the best part of all: vegan pie!

Casual, slightly upscale, warm environment.

They're open at 7:30am now for coffee and baked goods. Cafe opens at 10. For dinner they're open till 9pm (9:30p Fri&Sat).

Pretty Good

Au Naturel has the best selection of cruelty-free products outside of Whole Foods in Chicago (an hour away). As for their veg*n groceries, you can get a better selection at the Wiseway on Rt. 30. That said, the Au Naturel staff is usually quite knowledgeable. Easy parking. If they had a bigger selection of organic produce I would shop here much more since that's the one thing Wiseway (and Sprouts in Chesterton) is lacking.

Be warned that they sell dead animals here a/k/a organic meat. I know everyone has to start somewhere when making the transition to a cruelty-free diet, but it's gross to see the dead animal carcasses next to my Tofutti.

Good No-Frills Vegan Comfort Food

I wanted to write a rave review about Aux Vivres, but it wouldn't be honest. We went at 5pm on a Sunday, hoping to avoid the crowds. There were open tables and were seated immediately. Then we just sat there for 10 minutes with no one coming over. The people at the table next to us suffered the same fate. It wasn't until two other tables were seated in our section that it seemed like a waitress was assigned to our area. Maybe we caught them in the middle of a shift change, who knows. The service from then out was great but we were off to a shaky start.

The good: the appetizer Chana Paratha. It's a spiced Indian flatbread topped with chana, sour cream,
tamarind & mint chutneys. Extraordinary! My partner had the tempeh burger and loved it.

Not so great: everything else. The BLT was blah. It was mostly lettuce. I couldn't wait to try the coconut bacon it's made with but was terribly disappointed. The bacon has the kind of taste that would make it great on an appetizer but I didn't want to eat a whole sandwich of it. The soy chai lacked spices. The mango lassi was good but plain.

All this said, if I lived in the area I can tell this is the kind of place I would come to again and again for the comfort food. But if you are in Montreal for only a few days, this would be the kind of place you'd go to for a quick lunch not a special meal.

Love it

What a find! This place has a great vibe. Outdoor seating and a few small tables inside. It's a true bakery, so it's mostly cookies, muffins, brownies, all sorts of loafs of bread. They offer a few sandwiches and usually have a pizza or flatbread offered. The smoothies are outstanding as are their espresso drinks. Not to be missed are the vegan cookies. They taste better than their non-vegan cookies.

It's on a small side street. Limited free parking right in front, but plenty of metered parking on the main street (Cass).

Avalon is less than a mile from the Detroit Institute of Art. So if you're going to DIA or any of the museums, stop at Avalon! Take Woodward or Cass to Willis St.

Authentic Vegan Delights

This is the kind of restaurant that's worth going out of your way for. A rare find. Outstanding vegan & vegetarian sandwiches & desserts you won't find anywhere else in the city. Highly recommend.

Street parking (small fee). A few outdoor tables. A few indoor tables. Does mostly carry out.

Love this location!

Baums is a small chain that sells vitamins, vegan and vegetarian groceries, and a juice bar. Not 100% vegetarian - they sell organic meat in the freezer section.

If you want fresh, made-to-order juices and smoothies, this is the place to go! Totally worth the trip.

At the St.John location, ask for Lee. She's a very helpful and knowledgeable employee who is a long-time vegan.

Top Notch

Baums has 3 locations in the area and they all specialize in vitamins, herbs and specialty supplements. They have a small but varied selection of Amy's frozen meals, Diana's Bananas, coconut milk ice cream and some other vegan staples.

A host of products can be found on the store's shelves including baby care items, books, candles, cleaners, protein drink mixes and energy products.

Everything Done Right

This is the perfect place for a vegan to go with vegetarian or meat-eating friends. There's something for everyone.

This place has it all! Vegan delights on the menu, as much as possible made from organic ingredients, tons of bicycle racks out front to park yours if you brought one or you can rent a bicycle here for $5. Urban garden out front has won awards, they keep a bowl of water out for dogs, they recycle, they compost, this place thinks of everything and does it all.

You go inside, place your order at the counter, pay, they give you a number, you find a table and they bring it out to you.

Wait staff is friendly and insanely efficient. They are busy bees always buzzing around attending to something but doing it in the friendliest manner. One heard me say to my partner "Oh I'd wished we'd found a spot outside" and she hunted out a secret side table for us. The table was full she said to hold on, she was going to get the next open table for us. VIP treatment.

The food is outstanding, soy lattes are fantastic, baked goods are a delight. Located in a wonderful neighborhood. If I lived in the area and was a vegetarian, I would come here all the time. As a vegan, I'd probably only come here occasionally simply because there's not a big enough variety of vegan options on the menu.

The owners should think about turning this into a nation-wide chain. I think it would be successful anywhere.

Breakfast till 4pm!

Pro's:
Great variety of items on the menu. Lots of vegan items. The specialty juices were the best thing about the meal. Breakfast until 4pm is awesome!

Cons:
Bliss is lacking that warm, welcoming vibe that keeps you coming back to a restaurant even if the food is so-so.

I give it 3.5 cows. If you like bland food, 4 cows. I like flavorful dishes, so the bland taste was a disappointment.

Good Stuff

Great veggie and vegan food and coffee. Big menu with lots of variety.

Small counter where you order when you first walk in. Indoor seating area to the right. Small covered outdoor seating area right in front. Beautiful tree-shaded outdoor seating area to the side BUT for some reason it is garbage-smelling stinky there but I could not figure out where the odor was coming from. Great atmosphere, pooch-friendly with dog water bowl and treat station. Small parking lot right in front. If this were my place I would nix the parking spaces (there is street parking you can use) and expand the nice outdoor area in front (where it was NOT stinky). I would have given this 5 cows if not for the smell outside.

Highly recommended but sit inside or outside in front.
