Lighter vegan fare for breakfast and lunch such as coffee, juices, smoothies made with three types of plant milks (which are made on site), mixed cold drinks made from fresh ingredients, sweet and savory breakfast items including vegan ceviche, and a selection of salads. Open Mon-Fri 8:00am-2:00pm, Sat-Sun 8:30am-2:00pm. Closed Sun.

Go every day for amazing sandwiches - Edit
This place is amazing. Myself and my wife are currently eating here every day; she's described the 'pastor' as 'the best sandwich I've ever eaten'. We talked to owner/manager Carlos today and he was super friendly and helpful in making more recommendations for us as vegetarians while in Oaxaca, not only for restaurants but also what to order at the mercados, he did this despite my very slow Spanish (he speaks perfect English). Great people and great food! Go there!

Escape the busy city for a bit - Edit
We had a great time at Citronella. We went there because of the great reviews here on HappyCow and we weren‘t let down. The staff was super friendly, even recommended some sights in the city. The overall ambience had as stunning and food was great. There was some great music as well as Alan Watts’ speaches in the backround. We had the Waffle and a Salcicia Sandwich and both tasted absolutely great. Will go again.

My partner and I recently spent nearly a week in Oaxaca. We started every morning at Citronella and more or less ate our way through the entire menu. I’ve never had seitan as flavorful as what’s served at Citronella. It’s made in house and mixed with soya, which gives it an incredible texture. Citronella doesn’t cook using oils, so we never walked away feeling heavy or sluggish after our meals. Carlos, the owner, is also nice beyond words. He is incredibly hospitable and a wonderful person to have a conversation with. My top recommendations include:

Tried the chilaquiles rojos and sausage sandwich. The owner informed us that all the meats, cheeses etc are made in house. Everything was delicious!

Was ein Laden, wunderschön. Der Mitarbeiter war auch richtig nett und hat uns viele Tips für Oaxaca gegeben! Danke 👍🏼 die Tortas sind lecker und die Waffeln mit Schokosoße erst! Limos werden frisch gemacht, das dauert eventuell etwas länger, aber das warten lohnt sich!

Incredible food and kindest owner - Edit
We were craving a Torta so decided to give Citronella a try and I’m so glad we did, the food was so fresh and the flavours were so rich and delicious, we got the Chimi, pastor, salchicha and smoothies highly recommend!! The owner was so kind he came out to explain his food and we had a lovely chat about Oaxaca. Do not skip this place you’ll regret it. 🤍

I was visiting Oaxaca for a wedding and decided to try this place for lunch. Really great sandwiches and such amazing flavor. We had the torta pastor and the torta chilaquiles. My mom also got the plátano y cacao smoothie and I got some of the fresh squeezed juices. Everything was amazing. They also sell vegan chocolate bars and packaged vegan snacks to take home.

Wonderful 100% vegan Cafe - Edit
Carlos was super friendly and recommended several other vegan spots and culturally important places in Oaxaca. Citronella is 100% vegan when we visited in January 2024. We had the waffle and the torta al pastor, and they were both fantastic. Highly recommend.

We first visited citronella for brunch and had the pastor torta and the waffles. Both were so good. We ordered the milanese tortas to take on our day trip the following to Hierve el Agua. They were good but a little dry, I think that was probably our fault for eating the next day. We then visited another time for lunch and had the pastor again and tried the sausage one too - both very good. Agua del dia was lovely and refreshing. A lovely owner too with good prices!

I had the vegan al pastor sandwich. A really tasty soy protein in a mild sauce. Very very tasty! I ate it too fast to remember to take a photo. Patio is unassuming, but with a very pretty mural. Owner and staff are very friendly and helpful.

Great food and lovely service - Edit
We had a delicious breakfast at Citronella. The Chilaquiles Torta and the pancake were juste the right start of the day. Carlos makes all the meat substitutes himself plus runs the whole restaurant by himself. The food may take a while (for us it didn‘t!) but it‘s made with love and great flavors. Plus we met two very nice and helpful people who gave amazing advice for Oaxaca. Thank you. We‘ll come back!

They are so kind and welcoming here! The juice was amazing and so was the chilaquiles sandwich! My son didn’t love the waffle, but he’s very picky. I also had their fruit bowl, which was just ok. Loved the bright place to work from (WiFi was great) and the sweet service.

My kids and I loved the food (the torta de chilaquiles is irresistible). It’s super fresh, not processed, tasty and filling. We have been back almost daily. All the food it made in the owner - an absolutely lovely person.

ordered two smoothies, two tortas and waffles for takeout. it took over half an hour to even order, despite only one party being ahead of me. the service was friendly but incredibly slow - not the place to go if you’re in a rush. sadly, the sandwiches were mostly bread and pretty bland. waffles were tasty!

La limonade maison était très bonne, les ingrédients étaient parfaitement dosés.
Le propriétaire était très serviable, et chaleureux. Nous n’avions que peu de temps devant nous, et nous avons été servis rapidement.
Au plaisir de revenir tester le reste de la carte 😊
Édit: après avoir testé le petit déjeuner, nous sommes revenus bruncher aujourd’hui, et c’était à nouveau parfait.
Nous avons pris deux agua del dia au melon, un sandwich Pastor et des toasts verdadura (le houmouss maison est DÉLICIEUX). Les produits sont frais et les assaisonnements sont très bien équilibrés.
Une belle adresse à Oaxaca!!!
