First ever vegan butcher shop in the US - has cheeses, ice creams and other snacks to buy as well. They also usually have 2 sandwiches for the week and a soup!

Wow. All I can say is wow. Absolutely unreal. I'm completely overwhelmed at this amazing establishment. This is perfection. Seriously, if something can be perfection, the Herbivorous Butcher is perfection. Amazing display, cleanliness, variety, taste, presentation and service. I can't say enough about this place. I had the Italian sub (my favorite before becoming Vegan) and theirs is amazing. Most people probably wouldn't realize it's not animal meat.

Such a cute storefront with an awesome selection of vegan meats and cheeses. We got a few different things to taste and so far they're all amazing! Loved their selection of snacks and merch as well. We came around 2pm on a Sunday so they had a bit of a rush of people, so service was a bit backed up. That's my only complaint though, could use 2 people running the deli line instead of 1. But overall an amazing place!!

This place has been a bucket list stop for me since it opened. I love the idea of it so much. The girl who rang me up seemed a little annoyed and impatient with me which was unfortunate. The food itself though is delicious! They also sell lots of goodies like hats, clothes, vegan snacks. Its awesome!!!

We have been going to The Herbivorous Butcher since their Grand opening and they are amazing. There's so many delicious vegan meats and cheeses to choose from so we pick-up a lot every time we go there. Their vegan food is the best by far, we've ever had! Kale, Aubry, and all of their staff are absolutely wonderful. We highly recommended this place to everyone!!

Last time I came through I ordered one of almost everything including a Dill & Havarti sandwich that was incredible! I loved the Korean ribs, and added the bacon to my scrambles every day for a week! Today, I was lucky enough to try the Forrester grilled sandwich and I was blown away! DELICIOUS! I wish I could come to town more often!

It's funny to have a butcher shop be vegan, but hey- it's cool! Veg*ns feel left out sometimes, or relegated to salad, but here, you're veg*ism is not displayed awkwardly or apologetically, it's all veg!

There's soy-based cheeses and nut-based cheeses. There's sandwiches and there's jerky. There's meat looking things like steak and ribs and sausage, but it's all vegan. Check out the jack fruit as pulled pork and shredded chicken! Special days are taco days, but the hot items are whatever is in plastic item stands atop the deli case.
Other snacks include sweets and ice cream, crackers and chips. There are condiments and apparel, too.
Great shop! Some gluten free choices, but no gluten free bread.

I've been wanting to visit ever since I heard about this place on NPR. It's a cute little shop, set up deli style. As a vegan who can't eat soy, I was happy to hear that the "meats" are wheat gluten-based, though there is soy sauce in them. I purchased some salt and peppa jerky, which was really tasty. My husband, a meat eater, said it was the most realistic vegan jerky he's ever had. I also had some of the Herbivorous Butcher's "meats" in a meal at J Selby's (a St Paul restaurant) and they were really good, too. This place is yummy!

I went there curious about all the vegan meats and cheeses. Got sausage muffuletta sandwich for lunch with provolone cheese. It was delicious. Bread was roasted nicely. It was crunchy but still soft. Everything just melted in your mouth. I picked up a lot of goodies to bring home, cheese, cold cuts, ribs, meatloaf. So far loved everything I tried. Will definitely order from them again.

I am from Seattle and have wanted to explore this shop since it opened; today was the day!! The environment was very pleasant and fun! The staff were very friendly and helpful. This place really stepped up its game once it opened it's own location. They staff is super friendly, all of the products taste fresh and amazing. I also love that HB partners with many local veg/vegan friendly restaurants. It provides more variety and new places to try.

I am usually not a huge fan of vegan "meats" and "cheeses" but I had to check out this place while traveling to the Twin Cities. I always have my vegan go to places when I visit here. I thought my omnivore husband might like it, so I bought the maple bacon and pepperoni slices, and also some mozzarella cheese. In addition I bought some Bee Free Honey. I LOVED the maple bacon slices! Even the pepperoni was very authentic. I didn't much care for the mozzarella cheese but the meats more than made up for that! I loved the cool way the store is designed, it was so comical! Like walking into a satyr. The meat cleaver door handles were a nice touch. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful too! Such a rarity these days as far as customer service goes. My omni husband also really liked the meats and he was in love with the architecture of the store, being a woodworker and builder himself. This is definitely a very unique and fun place to visit, totally worth the trek! If I lived in Minneapolis I would visit weekly.

So, I'm in town for this cardiac device conference, and before I came here, I researched what places I wanted to visit. I only have the one evening that I could definitely make it to this place, as I'm on foot and it's been raining, so prefer not to ride a bike (but good going on the bike share program, Minneapolis!).
Read moreI got out of my conference a bit later than expected, and ended up running just shy of two miles to get there. Managed to arrive about three minutes before they closed. The staff was super friendly, and let me in to order.
I got the Korean BBQ ribs, the Smokehouse ribs, and their dill Havarti. It was SO worth the run. Had the Korean ribs for dinner, probably will have the Smokehouse ribs for lunch tomorrow. Had the Havarti with some crackers and wine.
I cannot express my gratitude enough for the staff members that were on that evening (9/23), since I don't know when I'll be back this way again. Thanks for the courtesy, kindness, and friendly chatter. You two were awesome!
