The take and bake lasagna was stellar. Many of the vegan restaurants in Minneapolis source their vegan meats from this place.

Yay! Deli Sandwiches! - Edit
They have a short menu of pre-made deli sandwiches and an extensive selection of vegan 'meats' for purchase in bulk like a traditional butcher shop. We tried the turkey sandwich and the Italian sandwich, both of which were excellent. I wish we lived closer so that we could try the other sandwiches and the meats!
Read moreOne downside is that there's nowhere to eat inside the shop, and it's pretty far away from anywhere worth sitting and eating outside. Also challenging considering the weather can be dicey at certain times of the year!
Cons: No seating

The best - Edit
You probably already know what the Herbivorous Butcher is, and you know that it's amazing. But it's worth repeating that not only are their traditional meats and cheeses delicious, but their takeaway sandwiches and other meals are perfect.

Delicious Sandwich, great staff - Edit
Very cool experience. Famous spot so had t visit. It's been years since I had a cold cut sandwich. I grew up with Italian combo sandwiches in New England so this brought me back. This Italian was good, I grabbed it before my flight. Lots of interesting mock meats to choose from for a vegan splurge and a walk down memory lane.

Try for Yourself - Edit
I have had some delicious items from this place. My biggest grievances are
Read more1) that there are no samples offered (even way before the pandemic). If you want to "try" something you must place a whole order, which sucks because if you don't like it, you end up throwing it away. Now you're wasting food and money. Shame on them for that.
2) no modifications on their sandwiches. Almost all of their sandwich specials come with cheese, which I don’t eat (Yes, I know it’s vegan. No, I still don’t eat it.)
3) they sneak cheese into (almost) everything. I tried the potato salad and had to throw it away. Havarti cheese was in it. WHYYYY?????
I still support this place though. I love the vegan butcher concept. I love their minimart inside with vegan goodies that you can’t find just anywhere. I hope they continue to thrive and improve.

you seem to feel “throwing away” expensive (or any) food is a solution. how about sharing it with a hungry person instead?

Colonizers just LOVE assuming, the same way they LOVE being in black folk business! I’ll be at JSelby’s today if you wanna ask me that in person.
Read moreschumacher62
what’s to assume? you yourself tell how wasteful and difficult you are. you may muster all your entitlement at non vegan places “i need a sample, i need to make menu changes” and intimidate them into placating you, i’m glad you got shut down at a vegan place. show some integrity. stop whining. act vegan. put your deck of cards away.

I’m not reading what you wrote and I’m not going back and forth with anyone hiding behind a keyboard. If you have something to say, I told you where to find me the other day. I stayed there for a few hours and no one approached me. I’ll be at Francis Burger Saturday early afternoon and then Crepe and Spoon. Probably btwn 4pm-7pm. Do not comment on anything else on this app if you don’t have balls to make these comments in person. See you Saturday, or not.

Surprise Vegan Butcher - Edit
I wasn’t sure what to expect walking into a butcher store, but I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the setup, cleanliness, and how organized it was inside. The display cases showcase the vegan butcher meats and cheese. It was a dream come true. I ordered the Hot Panini sandwich made up of leftover thanksgiving goodies. It was absolutely the best vegan sandwich I have ever had. Next time I am in the area, I will definitely be aiming by here to pickup something to eat.

Love the sandwiches! - Edit
I eat here a lot. You can get takeout sandwiches and sometimes they have other takeout items like pasta Primavera or cheeze dip. I often get the Turkxy Dill Havxrti. The cheese melts and tastes super close to the real thing. Carnivores can't tell the difference in my grilled cheeze!

Incredible cheese for a butcher! - Edit
We drove from Illinois to try Herbivorous Butcher for the first time and it did not disappoint. The brie was the most brie-like vegan brie I've tasted. Very creamy and flavorful. Herbed cheddar was an incredible combo of rosemary, thyme and other goodness that made it the most luxurious, gourmet cheese, vegan or otherwise. We will probably stop by again to get more cheese before we head back home. We're impressed too that the price for the cheese is less expensive than some gourmet vegan cheese brands found nationally at Whole Foods. We also got a turkey and Italian sandwich, which we both shared. They scoop out a little bit of bread in the chewy rolls to make room for even more fillings. My husband and I would both prefer more veggies on the sandwich, but fully understand that a butcher shop wants the meat to be the star. The Italian in particular was a taste I haven't had in a while. Seemed spot on to me (but it's been a while). It's art how they achieve the flavors they do with ingredients we can all pronounce!

I’ve tried the ribs, sausages, and jerky. Jerky is by far my favorite! The other things I had had really great flavor but the texture is a little off for me, a little too chewy for my taste. However the atmosphere and people are amazing and very helpful!

Wasn’t a fan - Edit
I’m very disappointed at my experience because there was so much hype. We got all the ready to eat options which include a mango pulled “pork” Sandwich, the beer brat, and the spicy sriracha brat. They didn’t cut the giant panini in half so it was nearly impossible to eat and I didn’t like the blend of flavors at all. The beer brat was good but had so much mustard on it that’s literally all I could taste. And the sriracha sauce they used for the other brat was inedible. I enjoyed their deli meats when we had them at other restaurants so I think that might be the way to go.
