I didn't find is not expensive

I've been once to Vegetalia. I bought some food for take away. I didn't know btw that they charge you extra if you sit outside.
But even I didn't I thought it was far from inexpensive.
Also I was bothered by so many non-vegan items on the menu.
And they'd let me wait too long before I could order (I waited outside at the window opening while that Vegetalia guy was doing stuff speaking to some Spanish people).
So the overall impression was not so good. I didn't come back.

it's good

The food was great. Service is a bit slow but that's the norm at most veg places. Yum! :)

Pros: good food, vegan options

Cons: the chocolate flan

boring vegan options

I came here several times for lunch and diner in 2011 and 2012. The lunch menu is cheap and the staff very friendly but they sometimes have boring vegan options, which makes me hesitate to come back again.

It is not a good diner place for a vegan. Too expansive and you end up with vegan food which is more like fast food. Not worth it.

Updated from previous review on Sunday July 22, 2012

I made the mistake to come here again during my stay in BCN. Really bad. They cannot even figure out a vegan option and the food is not very good quality. Never AGAIN.

Pros: cheap, friendly staff, sometimes nice vegan lunch

Cons: any NICE vegan lunch options??, expansive simple diners, quality and creativity not so high

Decent for a big lunch

It's only worth going here really for the menu of the day at €9.90 as the other main courses are €7-10 each. Vegan selection is reasonable but the food is not mesmerising and lacks imagination and flair. There are now so many vegetarian and vegan places in Barcelona that offer similarly priced menu deals of a better quality such as L'Hortet, Organic and Biocenter. Having only eaten here once I am unlikely to return as I would like to try other places but I would certainly recommend it if you want a substantial feed whilst walking around this wonderful part of the city.

Pros: cheap daily menu

Cons: basic food, diner style

Big love!

I am also really surprised by the more negative reviews here. I visited Vegetalia with a big party of friends and relatives while in Barca and we all loved it. The waitress was extremely patient with us all speaking broken Spanglish, and very friendly and lovely. She answered all our questions about the content of the food/drinks politely and knowledgeably. We ordered starters and mains, all of which were lovely. I was a bit nonplussed by the bun-free burger, but actually once I ate it, I appreciated the different take! Didn't think the portions were small at all; they weren't huge but they were plenty filling and we were all well satisfied by the end of the meal. We shared two jugs of Sangria which was DELICIOUS, the best we drank on our trip. Lovely atmosphere inside too, great colourful decor and nice bathrooms! My only complaint would be that we would have liked to sit outside in the courtyard but there were not very many tables and they were all taken. But that's a minor detail -- thanks Vegetalia, you're awesome!

Pros: Lovely staff, Great drinks, Nice atmosphere

Cons: More outside tables

Really Enjoyable

I was just reading some of the previous reviews and I must say, I am very surprised. We had a great experience at Vegetalia and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. We had nachos & guacamole to start, the guacamole was really tasty. I had seitan & mushrooms in a creamy sauce with brown rice for my main, and my partner had a veggie burger on seeded bread with beetroot, corn, carrot, lettuce. He was surprised that it was on bread rather than a bun, but it wasn't really a big deal. We had coffee and a soft drink and I think the whole lot came to about 20 euro - that includes the 10% surcharge for sitting out on the terrace. There was only one server that evening, but he did an excellent job and we weren't kept waiting, or rushed for that matter. I would definitely go back on my next visit to Barcelona, I thought the food we had was delicious.

Pros: Great food, Good value, Nice location

Good experience

I was taken to Vegetalia by a meat-eating friend who said that he always enjoyed eating there. It is a few doors away from Gopal, on the same square.

About 30% of the menu is vegan, and there are a few gluten free items. We shared two starters - hummus and Asian-style summer rolls, both of which were excellent. For my main I had the vegetarian paella, which was nice but nothing special.

Vegetalia has a varied menu with a range of salads, burgers and more traditional 'main courses'. I would like to see a bit more imagination with the vegan dishes, but it is not a major issue. They also make fresh juices to your specification (i.e. up to three fruits of your choice).

All in all a good dining experience, and not too pricey either.

Pros: vegan-friendly, excellent starters

Cons: slightly unimaginative menu

Good Lunch

We had a good lunch there. We had a mixed group of vegan and gluten free people, and everyone was happy. Would definitely go back.

Yummy cake

We only had tea and cake there (same cake they serve at Gopal). The cake was definitely one of the best vegan cakes I ever had.

Pros: excellent vegan cake

delicious seitan

One of few veggie places open for lunch on Sundays in the side streets off of La Rambla. I enjoyed a seitan and brown rice dish. While the seitan was very deleicious, it was too much for me. The second time I went I asked if they could give more rice and less seitan. They were not able to accommodate, but I ordered it again anyway, because the seitan is so good!

So-so

It pains me to write a critical review of any vegetarian restaurant because of course I want them all to succeed.
However, our experience at Vegetalia was a little lacking. The service was friendly enough, and our sangria was wonderful. The food was lacking though.
I ordered pakora that was soggy and bland. It was too expensive for what it was.

A complete dissapointment!

The only good thing I found in this restaurant were smoothies and a salad.
I have ordered wraps which were burned and tasted kind of old,..then pakoras which were over burned again and completely tastless,...Salad was good but just too small.
My friends had pizza they said it was ok,..
[edited by staff]
They told me everything is organic but the labels on friuts par examle didnt have any trace of organic certification,..
I dont care what people do in their spare time but work in a restaurant should have at least in tiny little interest in food and being kind to guests,..
Restaurant has a nice corner made out of himalayan salt otherwise lack of athmosphere...

I definetely dont recommend that restaurant,..[edited by staff]

Pros: Smoothies, Fresh juice

Cons: Poor food- over burned, Tastless old food, Expensive

decent place

Its pretty interesting going to a place where they sell their patties all nice and prepackaged and you can get them in any of the health food stores in town. Its a simple place, but they oil up a pan and sear the burger, and the burger just comes out on a plate with no bun so its a little anti climatic!

Cons: no bun

Good score

I was in Barcelona for a trade show and had bearly eaten all week -- not a great city for vegetarians -- so this place is a score. Great vibe. Good food.

Three courses with plenty of wine for two people came in under 50 Euro. Highly recommended.

Excellent

The restaurant is relatively easy to find, the atmosphere lovely, and the staff very friendly. It's not a huge place, but it's cosy and inviting - perhaps something to do with the massive crystal quartz wall!

The food was excellent, although for my ravenous partner, his portion was a bit small. Nevertheless, everything is fresh, tasty, and you get quality veggie food.

Try it.

Pros: Tasty, Variety, Atmosphere

Cons: Location, Portion size

Yay for broccoli & brown rice!

My wife & I went to Vegetalia for our first meal after a very long plane flight. As vegans, we like to be sure to get calcium via broccoli, collards, kale, bok choy, etc. I was very happy with the amount of broccoli in the sauteed veg's on brown rice. Alas, Catalunya often uses too much salt, so my wife was less happy, and I'll rate this a 4 rather than a 5. We learned that when in Catalunya, ask for no salt [and add a little soy after it's served]!

Pros: broccoli, brown rice, english menu

Cons: salty

Good food, friendly staff

On a great location at George Orwell place - this little resturant has a nice and friendly staff (who don't speak much English, but get along with the English menu). The atmosphere is good, the food deliciuos, healthy and cheap, and you can do take aways of the burgers. Very vegan friendly - with the list of the ingridiants on each dish.
Almost perfect.

Pros: Great food, good service, vegan friendly

Lots of vegan options! Even desert!

This became our favorite go-to restaurant during our stay in Barcelona. It is open all day so you never need to worry about time budgeting your sightseeing to correlate with your empty stomach. And the menu is full of super yummy comfort food which us Americans can start missing during our travels. Everything I had was amazingly flavorful. They somehow turned a simple dish of beans and rice into the most exotic, interesting flavor combination I've ever had. Magic! They have a rotating selection of vegan deserts, but I found the vegan chocolate pudding (a fixture on the menu) to be superior to any of the specialty cakes that I tasted. The restaurant is very English friendly and has menus printed in several languages. The staff was very helpful and nice and always remembered us upon our return. And the sangria.....yum! Definitely a must visit. (sidenote: when we asked the concierge at our hotel for directions, he told us not to go as it is a "terrible" part of town. he wouldn't even give us directions. this is rubbish. apparently the area used to be a red light district, but it has come a very long way since then. all of the usual travel rules apply, but i found it to be a completely hospitable neighborhood. and it's just a short walk off la rambla)

Pros: lots of vegan options, friendly staff, all day dining

Cons: none!

Not too exciting

OK, maybe we ordered the wrong things from the menu- we had a veggieburger and grilled tofu. Both had very little flavor, the portions were small.
They seem to have a good lunch menu - 8 euros for a 3 course meal.
The staff was very friendly and helpful.
To be fair we are very picky and the people next to us enjoyed their meal a lot. There are better places to go though.

Pros: good location, friendly staff

Cons: bland food, small portions
