A hidden gem! - Edit
This little gem was nestled away on a backstreet. When I say ‘nestled away’, we literally walked past it three times before seeing it; all I can say is thank goodness we found it. It is a tiny little takeaway place that serves freshly made wraps and sandwiches.
Read moreThe gentleman that served us was friendly and spoke good English (thankfully given the confusing Italian menu!). He created a custom-made wrap with a pumpkin tofu burger, salad leaves, cherry tomatoes, vegan cheese and ketchup all housed in a warm corn tortilla. I’m actually getting a little bit excited writing this, it was so SO good!
Pros: Friendly service, Delicious wraps, Quick and easy
Cons: The menu is a little confusing

Good Snack Near the Tower - Edit
Stopped by here for a snack on my way to the tower. The menu was all in Italian but the man at the counter paraphrased the options for me. I ended up ordering a chocolate & banana crepe/wrap and a cappuccino with soy milk for €6.50.
Read moreIt was nothing to write home about but the convenience of having an all vegan food option near the tourist area was great.
Would recommend if you are looking for a snack rather than a meal.

good fast vegan joint - Edit
Food was okay, nothing to roll on the floor for, especially that the owner uses a lot of commercial vegan products and basically puts them together with a small addition like vegan cheese or guacamole/veggies. No combos, no real "sides" so it really comes down to eating a wrap/burger on the go without much else.

Cons: practically only commercial vegan products

I came here in a big rush, and then discovered I didn't have any cash with which to pay. The man who worked there directed me to the nearest ATM and agreed to make me a wrap while I went to get money.

All vegan in Pisa - Edit
This id the only place I found in Pisa where I was able to ask for anything without wondering if it was vegan. Besides, the food was delicious and it has a great variety. The owner is pretty charm and he is willing to help you find your best choice regarding food. Totally recommended.

The only 100% vegan place in Pisa - Edit
There are lots of choices despite it being a small space, from wraps, panini (sandwiches), burgers etc. The owner, Marko, speaks excellent English too - and is happy to explain everything. Most of the ingredients he uses are organic.

Awesome take-away in Pisa! - Edit
This is a tiny little shop, with barstool seating for perhaps 3-4 people inside max - so it’s primarily a take-away spot. Sandwich, wrap, burger and even pizza options are seemingly endless for such a small place. Signage seemed to be all Italian, but owner was happy to help me out in English, creating a custom sandwich after walking me through all me choices (Seitan vs tofu, which veggie toppings, which cheese, which sauce etc). Had a spicy salami, mushroom, arugula, cheese and pesto toasted sandwich. So good. Highly recommended!

Cute place! - Edit
Was glad this little place existed after a quick visit to the leaning tower on a hot day. Was in a hurry and also very thirsty. Welcomed by a sweet man who was happy to help me decide what I wanted, although there was a lot of choice and it wasn't immediately clear what one could have which was a little off-putting as you feel like you have to decide in the moment, but I only wanted a drink really anyway.
Read moreHad a freshly made fruit smoothie which was delicious and refreshing. Would have had some food to take away for my train ride to Siena too but didn't have space to carry it (and wasn't majorly hungry either) which was a shame. There is a number of yummy things like seitan, tofu and other products that can be added to wraps, salads etc. and lots of drink options too.
As the only vegan place in Pisa it is definitely worth visiting and in a great location too. We need to support vegan-only places like this, especially if there is a lack of options in the town. These little places are gold-dust :)
Pros: Choices/options - all fresh too, Location, Helpful, friendly owner

Good vegan spot - Edit
I liked the vibe of this small place, food was ok, and the owner was friendly, buuut I think many improvements could be made so non-vegans wouldn't walk away right away.
Read morePlace was so small and the thing that hung in front of the door gave me the impression the place was closed (I think it was to keep flies out? But also customers)! Menu was way too extensive and unclear, everything written small in an unlogical order. Could easily be half and still have a lot of options. People that came in when we were waiting left. And after we made a decision from the huge menu we were asked which sauces and which salad we wanted, like c'mon, I'm not the chef here, just make something nice... ;-)
Pros: Lovely oldskool vegan vibe
Cons: Unclear menu

Food is Good, Service is Great - Edit
I'm so glad I made the effort to visit this little "hole in the wall" cafe during my visit to Pisa. The food was delicious and made for a lovely lunch spot. The owner was incredibly friendly and willing to answer any questions. I would definitely recommend this place. The prices are really good too - far better than any tourist trap prices you pay around the leaning tower.

All vegan food in Pisa - Edit
Credit to Vegan Come Koala for being the only all-vegan joint in Pisa, plus for being conveniently located half way between Centrale station and the leaning tower. Thankfully the friendly guy serving spoke English as there are a lot of options when it comes to producing your sandwich! Made a change from eating plain pizza and pasta pomodoro for a week so for that I was grateful. Not a 'destination' vegan joint per se but good solid option if you're after a healthy option in Pisa.

Very good sandwiches - Edit
This small take-away counter offers many different dishes, including sandwiches and wraps to take away. I took a hot dog, a sandwich with the "cutlets" and a wrap. The hot dog was fairly good but the other two sandwiches were amazing. I really loved the cutlet inside and the wrap had a very good taste. The owner was very friendly and helpful and the place is centrally located. It is very small so I suggest to take away and to go to the place at the end of the street. I would definitely go back there if I come back to Pisa.

Great Food Served With Compassion! - Edit
This little hole in the wall is an absolute gem! The food was delicious and the host was very friendly and explained all the options to us in English. I had a spelt wrap with spicy seitan (not hot at all but very tasty), rocket, tomatoes, mushrooms and rice cheese with a mild mustard sauce. My partner had a seitan hotdog with rice cheese and ketchup. We enjoyed them so much that we went back for seconds!
Read moreMy food contained no oil (good for HCLF vegans) and little salt.
The store has plenty of organic fizzy and non-fizzy drinks as well as some snacks for those on the go (raw chocolate, fruit bars and crackers).
Everything is recycled and composted, even the packaging that the food comes in is compostable.
I really enjoyed everything about Vegan Come Koala and would recommend to all visiting Pisa!

Very yummy panini - Edit
I took the panini with pumpkin tofu, some vegs and mayo and it was suuuper delicious. The bread was toasted perfectly and the tofu was real good. Yes, it's all warmed-up convenience food, but come on, in most restaurants, bars, Cafés, bakeries, ... they just warm up food with the only difference they don't tell you about it. The price was totally okay, 4 or 5€. The shop could be a little bigger tho, it is really really tiny. I would also reconsider the "decoration" and the menu should be written cleaner because it's hardly decipherable. Some background music would be nice aswell. Nonetheless a cute tiny shop with yummy food

Perfect vegan place to buy snacks and panini - Edit
Great panini, too much choice, everything was delicious. Too much bread if you don't add extras but not too expensive and sooooo good. Plus, they sell snacks like [censored] milk chocolate, the kind of thing you can't help but miss... well this one is vegan. Perfect for our long night in the train back to France :)

Tiny take-away - Edit
There is really nothing special about this place other than it's 100% vegan. It's a tiny take-away where ready-made food (mostly from the supermarket) is warmed up for you. Better than nothing but there is so much good vegan food in Italy that I don't quite see the point in eating convenience food.

The only vegan place in town! - Edit
Unless you have a car or fancy a bit of cooking, this is your only 100% vegan place in town (at least as far as we could see).
Read moreExcitedly we walked into the restaurant, which is very small. We took a look around and had heard that it had terribly graphic posters up. Thank God it did not. The worst was a cow looking at us with the captions:
"A life for a burger...
Are you serious?"
If anything, we were glad to see such blunt yet none stomach churning activism.
FOOD REVIEW:
Very tasty, not the biggest portions. Whilst the food doesn't cost much and is inexpensive, we felt that we could have been given more in the way of filling foods.
The Quinoa burger wasn't the best in terms of flavour. But we bought some uncooked spinach burgers and had them at home, They were brilliant. The hotdogs were a must, and the pizza we had had veg-gusto on it. Perfect!
Unfortunately a lot of the food was simply bought and just cooked. Not masses of it was made in store. Which might go a long way to explaining the difficulty in portion sizes.
We also had chocolate crepes. They were divine.
ATMOSTPHERE:
Not great to be honest. The owner seemed shy at best, and awkward and untalkative at worst. But after our second time in the shop at the very end, I did manage to get a smile out of him. Perhaps he'd had a bad day? Or perhaps that's just how he is?
Probably better for taking food away rather than staying in was my reaction.
LOCATION: Very central, quite near the leaning tower of Pisa. Brilliant!
Overall I'd recommend going to this place if you're in Pisa, but not making a special effort if you're not. But try the spinach burgers, hot dogs and crepes if you go!
Pros: Taste, Location, Price
Cons: Atmosphere, Size, Reliance on shop bought foods

Ironic discovery- heaven lead me - Edit
At a non vegan restaurant eating a banana on free wifi looking up vegan places around & just for fun in pisa- only one here & address obviously didnt know, took a stroll outside & came across the street name it looked familar, didnt believe that this could be the street it was in but walked down the street anyway & amazed, jaw dropping discovery it was there-the vegan come koala, walked in- very tiny, & couldnt decide what i wanted still paralysed from the discovery. I ordered a wrap with tempeh, capers, mushroom, beetroot, onion, lettuce, tomato & an amazing spicy ketchup & vegan cheese, it was toasted. Had some good for sale food aswell, biscuits, wine, bars, soft drinks. The place was small, too small for such masterpieces I bought what i thought was chocolate but surprised by small macarons with chocolate filling. The wrap was the best thing i have ever tasted in my life couldnt stop raving about, salivating thinking about it, and only about 3.5 euros, depressed that i probably wont have another one for atleast anpther 5 years. Ladies & gentleman i give you paradise

"As vegan as a koala!" - Edit
The sign outside the establishment had this translation of the restaurant's name, which I found charming. What awaited us inside was most welcome. It's a very small place, and most people stopped by for carry out. I can see grabbing food and going out for a picnic by the leaning tower, but we chose to eat at two of the four bar stools in the place. The young man behind the counter was incredibly sweet and helpful, and he offered to explain any of the ingredients on the menu if we didn't understand the Italian. It's not a huge menu, but there are enough options to please different tastes. I had a salami panini with vegan cheese and it was just delicious. I was also able to choose whatever toppings, such as lettuce, pickles, etc. For dessert we split the chocolate croissant and a type of crepe-like wrap with more melty chocolate (they didn't have "real" crepes available that day, but typically do.) We chatted about veganism in Italy with the man behind the counter and had a nice conversation during our meal. I highly encourage you stop check them out when you're in Pisa!
Read moreOne minor complaint was that there were some flyers on the walls with some disturbing images of animal abuse in an effort to educate the public about these issues. For me, I'm already batting for the team, so I don't really want to stare at images of cruelty while I sit down for dinner. It's a small personal objection, and it wouldn't keep me from going back or fully recommending that you eat there, too. Maybe next time I will get take-out.
Overall, this was solid vegan food. Hurray for the faux salami!
Pros: faux salami! , friendly, helpful staff, chocolate croissants
