Okay-ish - Edit
Well, the place is nice. Service - depends, the waiter who took our order was good but the food runner not so much. On a table for two, they brought all the courses together. It didn’t fit well and it was inconvenient. The food was too salty for me, may be okay for others.

Yummy! - Edit
Food was good and they had a nice variety of different dishes. We had the platter for 2, which was good and quite a lot! All the cakes in the bakery looked bomb! We tried the white chocolate rasberry cake and it was delicious.

Excellent food - Edit
The main plus is the amount of choice on offer at Napfenyes Izak for dairy-free veggies. The use of vegan cheese is excellent, I'm not normally a fan but it was a nice side (deep fried) and nice in the goulash. The soups were really nice, the creamy one and the goulash especially. The choice of mains spoiled me, i really enjoyed the spinach filled pancakes and the mushroom and garlic baked potato wedges. The onion mash and red cabbage were beautiful too. I liked it so much I went back the following day for lunch. The main plus is the desserts. Normally that's where veggies miss out - but not here, i really loved the tirmasu. Big portions, that will never score a low mark in my book. Easy to find; mid way between the yellow and red metro lines (soon to be added by the green 4 metro line). The chef was nice and quite chatty.

Go To Vegan In Budapest With Traditional Comfort Food - Edit
Traveling to Budapest for holidays, went to Napfenyes with my friends and everyone was blown away. We've been to several vegan restaurants in the city. And hundreds of vegan restaurants in other countries. This is one of my favourite!! Big and spacious, clean and comfortable dining hall. Service was great.
Read moreThe food was authentic, veganised traditional hunagarian food and mediterranean food, amazing pastries cakes and deserts. Juices and smoothies. Everything was amazing. Thank you!!
Pros: Traditional Hungarian & Comfort Food, Fairly Priced Food For Budapest, Great Friendly Service

This restaurant made me convert to Seitanism - Edit
Haven't been the biggest fan of seitan before, but their seitan roast was one of the most amazing dishes I've had so far.
Read moreThe gulash soup was honestly a little too mild for my taste, but the pizzas are great and actually cheezy.
Staff is super nice and the prices seemed cheap for me as an Austrian (however I don't know how that relates to average Hungarian prices)
Overall 5/5, would visit again, and Hail Seitan!
Pros: Amazing food, Decent prices, Nice staff

Fairly priced, disappointing hungarian specialties - Edit
Lots of items on the menu, classic vegan répertoire but the vegan bean gulash among others is a miss. The staff isn't very warm or welcoming.

Good cakes - Edit
Mixed feelings after visiting this place.
Read moreIt looks like a real restaurant, everything is vegan and the service was good. Cakes were delicious, I highly recommend one with “mascarpone” - simply amazing.
Food wasn’t restaurant quality tho: we had a platter for two that is technically deep fried everything. Heavy dish with a few veggies on the side.
Also there’s no alcohol and soda. Honestly, if I’m already eating super unhealthy deep fried dish, I fancy beer or at least coke, not tea or lemonade.
There were some sect-like brochures on every table and books for sale on the entrance - that was WEIRD.
Visited once and that was enough for me.
Pros: 100% vegan , Tasty cakes, Looks like a real restaurant, good service
Cons: Mediocre food, No alcohol or soda, Brochures make you feel a part of cult

Vegan restaurant in the city center of Budapest - Edit
Napfenyes is a cozy restaurant close to the city center in Budapest. You enter through the bakery where they have tons of cakes and sweets. The restaurant is bigger than it looks from the entrance with 2 different areas and the kitchen in the back.
Read moreThe stuff was very attentive and speaks English fluently. The menu is in 2 languages. Portions are big and the food combines some traditional Hungarian dishes with more common food like pizzas.
Pros: Variety of dishes in the menu, Restaurant and bakery in the same spot, Great location

Amazing - Edit
This restaurant is much bigger than I expected And really nice inside. Unlike many vegan restaurants it’s not like a cafe or bohemian (although I do like that style) it’s actually like being in a nice restaurant for a meal.

Great food, worth the money. - Edit
Nicely situated away from the busy town. The food was plentiful and worth every penny. Had the sharing platter for 2, was more like for 3 or 4. Had a side dish as well which wasn’t needed. Fast service and nice all round

Amazing food, lovely atmosphere - Edit
We got the small bean goulash soup, fries and sharing platter between 2 people and it was definitely too much food. Everything tasted lovely and it was a good way to try lots of different food. We also got the tiramisu to take away and there was a big selection of cakes in the fridge which all looked great.

The only proper vegan restaurant - Edit
Nearly the only vegan restaurant in Budapest where I can imagine celebrating a birthday or something - altrough it would be odd considering they don’t serve alcohol at all, neither coffee. The place is elegant, the staff is very nice, there aren’t too many options, but the food is delicious. The cakes and the juices are very good as well (they serve carrot and beetroot juice). The prices, compared to any other restaurant are not too high.

Napfenyes - Edit

Good food, weird place - Edit
First (and most important): The food we had for dinner was good. The goulash soup was super tasty and warming, and the Penne Siciliana of the seasonal menu was fine as well (although both dishes and also what I saw on the menu wasn’t as mind blowing as most reviews here claim tbh). So my only real complaint would be that the place is surprisingly big, which isn’t a negative thing of course, but also kind of looks like it wants to be a fine dining restaurant, which it surely isn’t and the staff, although professionally friendly, seemed kind of surprised and not exactly super happy that „people like us“ (=long haired, black shirt wearing, metal looking dudes) actually go into a place like this. Also there was more staff running around than there were actual guests in the restaurant, which contributed to the weird athmosphere even more.

amazing - Edit
This place is ridiculously cheap for what you get. Great portions, tasty food and many options and completely vegan!
Read moreWe took everything from the daily menu - spinach dahl, spaghetti casserole, chickpea and aubergine curry ( that was a bit spicy ) plus their plate for 2 people (there were 3 of us). They also have great sugarfree lemonades with xylitol, and we were so full afterwards!
Go there!
edit: I went there again and had the sweets this time as well. AMAZING again.

Terrible experience - Edit
Very disappointed with this place, I am afraid. I was very excited and reserved a table in what looked like the only “proper vegan restaurant “ in Budapest. The food was average, not much variety and zero creativity. They advertised the importance of a healthy vegan diet but then most of the dishes in the menu included fried food, which is all but healthy. The starter was not too bad, (I had a vegan goulash) but the main was low quality fried food and a simple boiled rice with peas and salad. The service was also very disappointing. Within 2 minutes from our arrival we already had the starters on the table but we didn’t have the drinks. There was no wait between the starters and the main course ( and only at this stage we finally had the drinks) which I found a bit too rushed and tbh you wonder if the food was already prepped and was just warmed up because the delivery to the table was really, abnormally fast. Once we finished the main nobody asked us if we wanted any dessert. We waited 45 minutes for the waitress to ask us for dessert but we were completely ignored. In the meantime all the staff was walking in the room and looking at their mobiles phones which I found very rude and unprofessional. We finally decided to leave because we realised nobody really cared. And is not that they were busy serving other tables, there were plenty of waiters for an almost empty room. Definitely not recommended.
