Good but Bangkok one is better

We were happy to eat at a veg place, but honestly the one is Bangkok was much better in terms of flavor and spice. I had my favorite dish, red curry and asked for spicy. It came out not spiced at all. The coconut milk was also strange and not very creamy. I had the same dish in Bangkok and it was much much well-seasoned and fresh tasting. The brown rice portions were much bigger here which was nice though. My partner had the seitan fish and it was actually pretty tasty.

Easy to find location. Next to two Indian places.

Oh, they stop serving at 8:30pm, not 11.

Pros: same affordable price, big rice portion, easy to find

Cons: boring/bland flavor

A true pearl

At the small, unassuming May Kadee you get excellent food. There is plenty to choose from on the menu, even though it is not the largest in town. The place is rustic and unpretentiously decorated. The service is fine, without being overbearing to the guests.

Exceptional home Thai vege food in small basic setting

This 10 table cozy and basic out-of-the-way spot is a pleasure. A large and varied menu of Thai dishes freshly prepared and about as perfectly spiced, intricate and balanced, as I could hope for. Informal and very very inexpensive, this is a place to return to many times. It is just outside the old city on the east. (Note that It seems to be very busy.)

Pros: Food food food, Small family place, informal and easy., Location Not far from old city.

Wow! Talk About Disappointing...

I'd been looking forward to visiting May Kaidee for a while, so wandered there with an appetite, only to have a very disappointing meal.

I decided to pair the Deep Fried Chilli with the Fried Eggplant and Vegetables, requesting that it was made spicy.

The Fried Eggplant arrived first and I was immediately asked if I wanted extra chilli: having only had one spoonful I declined and, if I've requested it be spicy, then I shouldn't need to add my own chilli. Should be cooked as requested. Anyway, it was okay, at best and I can only describe the flavour as being very subtle or sadly lacking. What was there wasn't great, felt like a friend's first attempt at Thai stir fry.

Then the Tofu arrived, with a thick, flavourless batter and, the highlight of the meal; some peanut dip. I could only bring myself to eat a couple of pieces of it.

As Flavor Flav once said: don't believe the hype...

Tasty Traditional food

I had dinner here having the pad Lee mao, Tom yum soup, seitan fish curry, Thai herb rolls. Everything was delicious. The restaurant is simple no frills but a fair price

Reliable Vegetarian Thai Restaurant with Vegan Options

May Kaidee offers a wide selection of vegetarian dishes, many of which can be made fully vegan. The flavors are authentic, portions are generous, and everything is prepared with care. The staff are warm and attentive, and the setting is comfortable. A solid choice for both first-time visitors and regulars.

Fun, Passionate, and Educational Cooking Experience 🌿

Her cooking school was such a fun and informative experience! We learned so much about authentic Thai food and the ingredients that make it so special. You can really feel how passionate she is about what she does — it shines through in every part of the class. This was truly one of our top experiences in Chiang Mai and something I’d highly recommend to anyone visiting. Definitely don’t miss this one!

Pleasant, relaxing, tasty, nutritious

Located on a side street close to the moat that surrounds the old town of Chiang Mai, this wholesome and tasty food was also inexpensive. I wanted a break from tofu, and they list a vegan sausage on one of their curries, but don't make explicit that it could be substituted for tofu in other dishes. I asked and they added it to the noodle side and the eggplant dish I ordered. The spring rolls were also high quality, compared to the often boring spring rolls you find in many places and the dipping sauce was good. There are two wooden tables in front for outdoor seating, although the entire restaurant is open air.

A classic

Renowned for their popular cooking class, May Kaidee is located just outside the Old Town walls and offers simple, tasty Thai classics. Be sure to ask for your dish to be spicy if you like it that way, as they tend to cater more toward a Western palate. I always request their homemade herby chilli sauce with my pad thai and it never disappoints. A friend of mine says May Kaidee’s pad thai is his favourite in all of Thailand!

This place can get very busy during certain hours, sometimes there’s even a queue for seats. There seems to be a fair number of regular customers and a cool social atmosphere, with strangers sharing tables and making friends. Really nice vibes.

Because the restaurant is open front it gets hot during the daytime and there can be quite a few mosquitoes at dusk. Another thing to watch out for is insects in the food—my partner said he has picked out at least one bug from his dish every time we’ve eaten here. On top of that, they also serve egg and honey.

Beyond the pad thai, I recommend the fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce and their multicoloured mango sticky rice. If you’re lucky, you’ll even catch the owner gently singing to himself as you eat.

Homemade authentic Thai food

Tasty home made food, good service, in a traditional restaurant. I had the massaman curry 🍛 and the tofu flower blossom bites. Tasty and flavoursome.

Most authentic Thai food in Chiangmai

Make it a point to dine here every time we visit Chiangmai. The food is fantastic as always, made fresh and made to order. All curry pastes and made ingredients are made from scratch using their family recipes passed down from generations. The most authentic Thai food you can ever taste in town. Highly recommended

Pros: Peanut sauce

Good vegan food

We really liked the food here. It’s a very chilled out vibe with nice service. We had a red curry & a panang curry which were both lovely, but there was no spice at all, they were very mild. If you like spice make sure you ask for spicy otherwise you’re not getting any chillies. The banana blossom fritters were good too!

Pros: Great flavours in the curries

Cons: Not spicy at all

Brilliant and informative cooking class

We did an afternoon cooking class with Diana. She was brilliant - friendly, fun and she taught us so much about Thai cooking - creating different bases and pastes for all sorts of dishes. We ended up making 11 different dishes (this includes 5 variations of Tom yum). It was also quite professional - she gave us a little recipe booklet for us to take notes on and take home. I can’t wait to try these dishes out when I get home! 100% recommend if you really want to understand how to cook Thai dishes.

Pros: Learnt many different dishes, v informative!, Fun and friendly teacher, Lots of yummy food to taste

Cons: Expensive class

Good food, static space

The place has a weird vibe. Silent, fluorescent lights and stark walls.
That aside, the food was great!

Favorite dish in Chiang Mai so far

I love the May Kaidee in NYC so I was super excited to stop by here. I got the Pad Kee Mao and requested very spicy and they truly accommodated my request. I really enjoyed the dish. I also liked the papaya salad and the Paneang curry. I did find the smoothie a little disappointing though. The Thai tea is good but sweet. I would definitely come back

Pros: Delicious , Cheap, Made to order

Good food, weird atmosphere

The food was good, I really enjoyed the fried spring rolls, and the pad Thai was good, although there was barely any peanut sauce! The fish cakes definitely weren’t what I was expecting, they were very thin and didn’t taste like fish at all.

I did find the atmosphere in there a bit weird, it was absolutely empty, and the server was singing and drumming his fingers waiting for us to order, which was a bit off putting when trying to have a conversation. I also found him a bit rude as he cut me off when I was trying to order multiple items, and didn’t give any acknowledgement when I asked for no egg in the pad Thai.

Tasty

Good quality food, very tasty. Portions a little small for me personally. A very small restaurant, only a handful of tables, sometimes you might have to wait to be seated.

Nice little restaurant not far from old town

I think the food is geared towards tourists as it was very mild on spice.
We asked for added chilli/spice and even using it all the food was still not spicy. That's a good thing if Thai spicy food is a bit much for you.
The flavours were great, service was excellent.

Pros: Location , Service , Fresh spring rolls (Poh Pia Sod)

Cons: Not spicy as other Thai versions of these dishes
