cooking class

Did a cooking class here whilst in Chiang Mai. Made around about 8 dishes and sides and was given a recipe book. Highly recommend as it all tasted amazing. Just don’t eat that before you come, it’s a lot of food. But you can also take some away. Didn’t actually order anything from the menu but the prices were good and what we made was amazing.

Delicious and Inexpensive!!!

Beautiful and delicious food!

Had 1 large beer, 1 app, 2 entrees, 1 salad which was plenty of food for 130B per person (3 people)

Afoordable vegan Thai food

Ate here three or four times during my Chiang Mai stay; first time I had the Kao Ob Tan Ya Peud which was one of the tastiest things I've eaten.
On another trip tried fish cakes and khao soi for the first time, which we asked for not to be spicy as my gut currently can't handle it. Sadly both came out very spicy (spicier than normal Thai "not spicy"). Made a note of it and the staff tried to water down the noodles, but I still couldn't eat it. He said it was an inherently spicy dish, which is fine, just tell me that before I order it!
We weren't charged for it, which was nice, but I then had to go find another meal after nearly an hour. We still went back another time but were more careful with our orders.

Pros: Low prices, Good taste, Nice staff

Cons: Language barrier?, Cultural spiciness level difference?

The best!

Pros: Creative and special Thai Food

Cooking school

Tried the cooking school and it was worth every penny. The teacher was very friendly and instructed us into making our own delicious dishes. We made 7 different dishes and got a small book With The recipes as well. I would recommend this to everyone. Remember not to eat beforehand, since you will get a lot of food!! :)

Pros: Vegan or vegetarian. Very tasty

Great food

This restaurant had amazing food though you wouldn’t think so by the decor! Everything we tried was delicious especially the ‘fishcakes’, banana flower, and salads. I didn’t get a chance to try their Khao soi but hear it’s pretty good. I went to the cooking course as well and it was really good but the one thing that I wasn’t happy with was that they gave the option to use eggs but then didn’t ask people to wash their hands afterwards. So if you have an allergy as I do I then couldn’t try any of the subsequent dishes that others made as there was then eggs through everything. As a vegan restaurant I’m not sure why they don’t just keep the cooking class vegan as well and tell people how to include eggs at home (as they did with meat/ fish).

wonderful

very good food at very affordable price.
Ok, the portions aren‘t very big but that gives you the chance to try more than 1 meal.
a salad or an appetizer plus a main course should be enough.
the food is really delicious, the options are quite different from „normal“ restaurants - it‘s fun to try new meals.
I have been here 4 times and never was disappointed.

A big recommendation.

Muy recomendable!

El lugar no es muy elegante ni atractivo pero la atencion y la comida es excelente. El personal es amable y sonriente. No es completamente vegan pero casi.Recomiendo el masaman curry. Las porciones son abundantes y es economico. Solo comida Thai.

Delicious!

We tried the tofu thai "fishcakes", the khao soi curry and the banana flower salad. Everything was delicious.

Lots of veggies in the khao soi - greens, carrots, broccoli, mushroom, cauliflower. Some places it has potato and onion and is kind of heavy.

Fast and knowledgeable service. Cute quiet location. Good price for the high quality of the food 😊

Amazing cooking class

We did their cooking class and I'm so happy with it! All the dishes turned out exactly how, in my opinion, thai food is suppose to taste like. Highly recommend the cooking class. Unfortunately we stayed quite far from here so we didn't eat at the restaurant, but if it's anything like the food we cooked you should definitely try it out!

Pros: Amazing vegetarian/vegan cooking class, Friendly staff

nice place

ordered Pad Thai and Seaweed Rolls which were more than average.
Enjoyed Pad Thai, but when tried Seaweed Rolls I was a bit disappointed, 2/3 of ingredients were missing - (sweet potato, pumpkin and shitake mushroom). Instead they put some veggies like broccoli and corn.
Staff was friendly, agreed that they didn’t had several components and made a refund.

I had a vegan cooking class here and it was absolutely amazing! It was easy and the food we made tasted delicious! The owners are so so sweet and I really enjoyed both eating and cooking here. If you're looking for a vegan/vegetarian cooking class in Chiang Mai - this is the place to go!

Simple, delicious and cheap Thai food

Loved this place! Had a mixed vegetable stir fry with cashew nuts, and a pad Thai! Both were 60 baht. Food was delicious

Pros: Simple, delicious food, Not overly oily/unhealthy, Cheap (60 baht for most meals)

Cons: Restaurant is a little small

Best. Cooking. Class. Ever.

So we didn't actually eat here, but we did the cooking class and can HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it!
We cooked 2x soups, pad Thai, 2x curries, spring rolls, a salad and dessert. Our host (Ming) was unbelievable. Showing us all the little tips and tricks and best way to do things. They also checked in before going forward with a recipe to make sure we didn't want eggs in too.
As 2 vegans, we weren't sure whether we could find a good cooking class, but rest assured we have and it is definitely at May Kaidee!!! If you get a chance, not to be missed.

Best place in town

I just love the food here. It is so tasty. And we are not talking about your typical run off the mill thai cooking here. No we are talking about flavour sensations that will amaze you.

When in Chiang Mai you absolutely have to eat here.

There carrot salad left me in awe.
The pumpkin humus is wonderful and the fresh spring rolls with their own style of peanut sauce is the best.

Pros: Carrot salad carrot salad carrot salad, Super tasty food. Amazing flavour combinations, Food is prepared pretty quickly

Cons: They are only in Chiang Mai and Bangkok

excellent food

I came here twice with my mum. We ordered the red curry, the haw ( not sure of the name, the thicker curry) , veggies served with rice. All the dishes were fantastic. I love the curries that they serve. As for the pancake, it was okay for me, maybe a kind of sweetener will make it taste better.

Terrible service! Terrible food!!!

Ok:)
I took their cooking class before, and it was great so I came back for their restaurant! Food here is very cheap compare to most place but not cheap compare to food in Thailand. However, their kid was sitting in the middle of the restaurant with many toys on the ground plus making super loins noise:/ but not the worst thing, they did even talk to me at first, just left a pad of paper and a pen on the table :/ I was like, what's going on? The lady said just write what you want. I wrote my order, and after a long time they came back took it. FYI, I only see the waiters when bring my food, and no one is there to call on at all. Moreover, I order a northern Thai dish, and the deep fried noodle on the top was couple days old at least. It taste old and bitter:( I told them about it, they didn't care and told me it is Thai thingLOL. I live in Thailand this year and I had it many times and even make my own, and they just don't care. FYI, all of them here are not vegetarian, so I guess that's why they don't care! I will never come back!! Don't come!!!

Pros: Nope, Nope, Nope

Cons: Bad service, Bad service *5, Bad food

the best vegan/vegetarian restaurant in Chiang Mai

In my opinion, this is the best place to eat in Chiang Mai. I tried almost all the items and every one was very tasty. The food is prepared fresh, I even see how they, after I order, go to their pantry to get all the necessary ingredients for the dish! The food is not so spicy as it is normally in thai cuisine, but you can ask your dish to be made completely not spicy ( I for example don't like when papaya salad is even a lil bit spicy, but if tom yum is spicy it is okay for me)

Tasty way to support the cause

In Chiang Mai we're spoiled for choice and I really enjoyed this place. I had the "zinger" drink. Tasty but lacked zing. Perhaps they gave me the falang version... Would be so nice if they cranked it with a bit more chilli and ginger. The banana leaf salad was awesome, as was the green curry. Healthy brown rice. It can get jammed in here pretty easily because it's just a 3 person family/team, so go early or have patience. Seating outside seemed nicer.

Pros: Delicious, Vegan vibe, Fruit juices too!

Cons: Falang prices (?), May have to wait awhile...

Best best best best

My partner and I have been in Chiang Mai for 4 days and we've been to May's 5 times. Despite saying "we should try something new..." for the last 3 days, we end up at Mays. This is such amazing food and at such a great price. PLEASE don't miss Mays, it's the best vegan place we've found in Thailand!

As one other reviewer mentioned, they do ask you to write your order down. I actually appreciate this, the day before I found May's I was charged 80 baht for a juice I THOUGHT was included in my meal, so I appreciate the opportunity to communicate clearly.

We recommend:
Khao Soi, fresh spring rolls, isaan vegetarian
Everything else we had was great, too!

Pros: food!

Amazing vegan cooking class

Being in Thailand, I HAD to take a cooking class. I chose May Kaidee's cooking class and it was SO worth it. The staff is generous of their time and portions, and we got a recipe book. We learned how to make many chili pastes, peanut sauce, curries, pad thai, soups and mango sticky rice. The class took about 4 1/2 hours and was very well organized. Absolutely worth it, the food was great :)

Pros: Great food, Well organized, Many recipes

Cons: A little expesive for SE Asia(but really worth it)

One of the best!

They have excellent thaifood and cheap prices. Tried many curries and all of them were very tasty and good. The place is simple but definitely worth to visit just because of the flavors. I love thaifood and this place is one of my favorites in Chiang Mai. They also make low in oil if you ask.

Pros: Amazing food, Very cheap, Traditional thai

Delicious vegan food!

The menu is great, with a variety of options. Kind of a "messy" atmosphere as the cooking class is combined with the restaurant.

Pros: Very good prices

Cons: Messy atmosphere
