Vegan battered sausage & chips by the sea! - Edit
Barnacles offers vegan battered sausage and chips which you can take down to the seaside, only a few mins walk away. They were very careful about cross contamination. Can get very busy on a summers evening!

Vegan curry sauce!! - Edit
Enjoyed a filling and tasty meal here last weekend. Staff were very friendly and double clarified which meals and sides we wanted vegan. Enjoyed a spicy bean burger and chips with a jug of curry sauce on the side. Vegan puddings were on offer but I was too full. Also have a gluten free range too.

Having had a recommendation from the reviews on this page we decided to try them out for ourselves whilst on holiday. We are so glad we did ... there was a really good range of vegan dishes that were cooked separately. The staff were friendly and professional... will definitely come again .

Amazing chips! - Edit
We got the chips, battered sausage (think it was a Linda McCartney, tasted like it) and the quorn spicy chicken burger. The girl at the counter wasn’t friendly however the food more than made up for it. The chips were so delicious!

Nice to have choices! - Edit
Had the falafel kebab with sweet chilli sauce and hummus. The chips were some of the nicest I’ve had in a long time! They have separate fryers for vegan/gluten free. Nice to find a fish and chip shop where chips isn’t the only option!

So many options! - Edit
It wouldn't let me give 5 stars but it deserves 5! So many vegan options. I had quorn nuggets chips and salad. Fair enough the nuggets weren't home made but being able to sit and eat a meal in a proper chippy while my partner had his fish and chips was lovely! There was soya milk for my tea and a delicious pudding with vegan ice cream. Will defo go there again.

Great vegan options - Edit
When on a day trip to the seaside, the first thing that crossed my mind was ‘how can a vegan guy get some chippy produce for a meal by the sea?’. Fortunately, Barnacles was just a short walk away and sporting a great number of vegan options. It can take a little time to get served as their separate vegan fryer is quite small and can only do a couple of portions of chips at a time but it’s worth the wait. Had a great chat to the staff about how long they’ve had a vegan menu and even shared tips on vegan cake making.
Read moreBarnacles is split between a takeout counter and sit-in restaurant so on our third visit we opted to sit in and boy were we in for a surprise - an even bigger sit-in vegan menu! In addition to takeout options like sausage and chips you get access to dishes like hotpot and chicken tikka. Sit-in and you’ll be greeted with the same friendly service as the takeout counter.
My two criticisms: the milkshake I had was the single most disgusting drink I’ve had so far this year. It tasted incredibly artificial and I think they should leave it off the menu rather than keep it for the sake of saying they have a vegan milkshake. The sit-in price for a bowl of chips is something like £4 which I do think is too much of a mark up for the size of the portion. Main dishes are reasonably priced.
Pros: Lots of options, Great customer service, Food quality is high
Cons: Some dishes are expensive for what they are, Milkshakes are a big no

So good to be able to have a chippy tea whilst on holiday in Llandudno, there is a seperate vegan menu and all vegan food is cooked to order in seperate fryers. I had battered sausage, chips and curry sauce to take out for less than a fiver.

Gets the job done. - Edit
We ate on the left side of the restaurant (service provided) as opposed to the takeaway option on the right. In hindsight, should have done takeaway because it was quite a bit cheaper. It’s basic food (we ordered the fish and chips, sausage, and apple crumble) that’ll keep you from being hungry, but nothing to write home about. The fish sticks and sausage were store-bought.

Great Vegan Menu - Edit
Tried to give 5 Stars but only allowed 4 as it’s not a fully vegan establishment. However they do have an extensive Vegan menu. I had the chips, battered vegan sausage, mushy peas and gravy. It was delicious. The owners daughter is vegan and has sprinkled vegan magic all over this lovely restaurant and take away. Highly recommend and will definitely be back. For me this is the Best Vegan Restaurant in Llandudno. They even have vegan ice cream and deserts!

Really Good - Edit
Had the vegan chips, battered sausage and curry, it tasted amazing and was great to see them use all separate utensils (I know they should do this everywhere anyway but sometimes you wonder) the only downside to me was that it was a Linda Mcartney sausage which aren’t my fave and the sausage didn’t have much batter on.

Decidedly average - Edit
I hate to give a place a bad review, especially one that has a separate specific section for vegans.
Read moreThe food that I has wasn't fantastic, I ordered chips, sausage and gravy hoping that I would finally be able to have a chippy experience that I have craved so much since going vegan. The food was massively lack lustre, the chips weren't chippy style chips, the sausage was just a plain Linda McCartney ones (which I love but prefer to cook them myself at home). The only really enjoyable thing was the gravy, despite it not being chippy style gravy it was very nice.
My parents (fish but not meat eaters) said that their food was lacklustre but not bad. The best thing about the menu is that that the vegan section is integrated into the main menu, it in turn encouraged my sister (meat eater) to try something from it. She has the falafel sandwich and lentil soup and said it was beautiful.
I don't know how different the chippy menu is to the sit down meal but I hope it is better. My sister really enjoyed her meal but the actively vegan food that I tried wasn't fantastic. The staff were nice, but were a little rushed so didn't have much time to speak. I think I would go here again if I was in Llandudno and wanted to have chippy but wouldn't necessarily have what I had last time.

Delicious vegan street food - Edit
It was so nice to find a fish and chips shop with vegan options. Sure, there is no vegan fish option, but that is not particularly surprising. Instead, I got a sausage bap and breaded sausage with a side of chips. They use Linda McCartney sausage, which is delicious. The bread for the bap was nice and soft, and the breading on the sausage was crisp. The chips were delicious and they put a nice salt and vinegar seasoning on top. They also had a vegan gravy that was amazing. I got all of this for less than 10 pounds. I would definitely recommend you take a stop by here and get some food.

Vegan-friendly Chip shop - Edit
Staff were lovely and the food was well prepared. I ordered
Read morechicken style nuggets and chips. I wish it had come with peas but I did really likes the garlic mayo.
I found the restaurant was cramped with tables very close together and the number of notices on the wall and windows a bit off putting.
I also thought it was expensive, my lunch with two soft drinks set me back over a tenner.
If i go back it will be to get take out.
However the place was packed on a weekday so they must be doing something right.
Pros: Vegan Menu, Take away or eat in, Great Staff
Cons: Poor atmosphere, Crowded Tables, Expensive
