Cheap tasty and quick
This little place is great. Classic asian canteen style serving lots of locals. Delicious noodle soups, steamed filled buns and home made hot and cold soy milk. Lots of fake meat choices. Great for veggies who want to eat local cheap food. They also do food to take away. English spokem and menu

Clean little place with ok cheap food
After reading the two bad reviews we were not expecting much of this place. But it was fine. We had rice with veg and a fake meat which was average but palatable. The selection is quite limited but I loved the filled steamed buns/dumplings which were delicious. It is a cheap meal, nothing special but ok. We found the place to be spotlessly clean.

Western style veggy place, expensive but nice
Life has a nice atmosphere, a western style restaurant in a busy bustling location. The food is pretty expensive and portions are quite small. We couldnt afford drinks though they did have a good selection if your budget can stretch. We went because we couldnt find anything else late at night in the area and were pleasantly surprised. The food was good but not absolutely amazing though the atmosphere was lovely. Whether it ticks the spot for you probably depends on what you are looking for.

a friendly small no fills place
You wouldnt know its vegetarian as nowhere is it mentioned outside or in. We almost missed it as the sign is a little different to how it is spelt on happy cow. A reasonable meal, the mock meat 'chicken' in sweet and sour was a little dissapointing but the spring roll was good and it wasnt expensive. Friendly staff and was conviently just around the corner from our hotel, near the 'street of happiness'

We went three times and everytime had a great meal. The decor is lovely, a huge menu, mainly veg items but a few mock 'meats'. Considering the quality it is reasonably priced with steamed rice for 1yen (about 10p). The waitresses are sweet and the braised aubergine is delicious. The only problem is deciding what to eat from the big menu, and then tring to eat it all once you have overordered.

Nice little place if nearby
This was a nice little restaurant, it happened to be near where we were staying. The food was ok, the peking 'duck' not as amazing as we had hoped. The dumplings were great value 12 yuen for 20! Our meal was good, not amazing and I wouldnt want to travel a long way for this restaurant but if its near by its a good option.

Stylish place with picture menu
Nice food though not as large a menu as we had come to expect in Chinese veg restaurants. No english but a picture menu though some dishes are hot and some cold and there is no way to know which is which! Dali has so many good places with veggy options that this restuarant isnt quite as essential as it would be in a big city but we enjoyed it. Food is slightly more expensive than elsewhere.

Brilliant little veg chinese
I loved this place- its clean, bright and busy. Staff are friendly and speak good english. The menu is on the wall and the daily specials mean its easy choosing what to get and a good reason to go back every day.
The Pau (steamed buns) were excellent, as were the satay sticks, veg chicken rice and laksa. Also very cheap for the quality, dishes come in 3 sizes and average about 3 or 4 MR each. Highly Reccomended

Asian dishes good
This is essentially a tourist place and the menu is extensive which includes a lot of western dishes. I assumed the western food would be average at best and therefore avoided it. We had a nice braised tofu in clay pot which was great, noodles and rice and cheap iced green tea.
Not incredible but no complaints.

Brilliant Indian Experience
I love this place, a classic indian restaurant with all of my favourite dishes (masala dosas, brilliant samosas, banana leaf thalis, indian sweets and masala chai). The choice is great and the food consistently good. Also I love the feel, its always busy and full of Indians and very much reminds me of India. Highly reccomended. There are alot of other veg indian restaurants around but we always went back here. If you are new to Indian sweets order the gulab jamon. Thali dishes are approx $5-6 and everything else is cheaper. so great value

Good reliable veg indian at good prices
This place is on a busy street with at least 2 other veg Indian restaurants. The other is Sangeethas which is more upmarket and has a more extensive menu but is as a result more expensive. Lakshmi Vilas might not look as fancy but the food is good, service is friendly and fast and the food is great value (significantly cheaper than Sangeethas) The menu (on the wall in english) is limited to banana leaf thalis, breads, dosas and other South Indian dishes (which isnt really that limited) plus all the usual drinks and sweets. AC section upstairs open at lunch time. Busy, good atmosphere. They dont automatically give you cutlery which we should take as a compliment so if you cant hack eating rice with your right hand you will have to ask for a spoon. Recommended

This place is really great. We eat here every day while in the ciy. Delicious salads (the chef salad is superb) and very good fake meat dishes. they also sell the salad dressing and 'meat'. Vegan cakes, herbal teas, english menu, nice staff and not expensive. A little vegan/veggy heaven in a very meat and dairy country. very popular with mongolians and westerners, dont miss it!

Good thai dishes
Delicious food with a few unusual items on the menu. We ate deep fried seaweed, pumpkin 'hummus' with rice, curry soup and amazing black sticky rice with mango and banana. Yum! Nice staff and reasonably priced.

A quiet place in the suburbs, handy if you are visiting crazy house.

nice place and good food
We went to this restaurant twice and were pleased both times. It has a large menu, mostly mock meat and fish dishes. The stuffed pumpkin was great value but came with a surprising amount of fake fish (which was not mentioned on the menu). Limited english from staff but the menu is in english with photos. The 'chicken' was particularly good. Plus it had a nice atmosphere and was popular with locals. Recommended though not cheap (but then little in Hong Kong is)
Wat Suan Dok temple, Suthep Road, Chiang Mai, Thailand
We didnt eat here but had a lovely iced lemongrass tea. The place was busy but with a nice atmosphere. I would come back to eat here as people I met said the food was good. They also have an organic farm outside of Chiang Mai where vegetarian cookery courses are run and you can go and stay and volunteer which is really lovely.

Good tasty food
Simple and clean buffet restaurant. Some interesting juices and drinks and a good choice of dishes plus rice and noodles. Not much on the fake meat front but lots of other choice. Good tasty food. Friendly staff with excellent english.
