Lots of traditional Austrian dishes on the menu and it was hard to choose, but I was really happy with what I got: the cheese dumpling soup was so good I wish I could eat it every day, and the schnitzel was HUGE, served with yummy potato salad and cranberry sauce.

Service was very friendly and attentive.
The location is a bit off-center, but don't let that stop you - it's very close to a U station so it only takes about 15-20 minutes to get there from the city center.

We had lunch here after visiting the Schönbrunn palace. I think we were lucky to have a table with no previous reservation as the restaurant was pretty full and with high table rotation. The staff is very nice.
Read moreTo warm up a bit we ordered a carrot and ginger soup, which was delicious with flavorful toppings. Main courses were the biggest schnitzel I have ever seen, with potato salad, and Viennese juicy goulash with spätzle, a plate we hadn't tried yet.
We saw they have sachertorte and didn't resist. It was very very good.
I recommend this place for sure.

Read moreI decided to get the zwiebelrostbraten and it was probably one of the best vegan meals I've had in my life! The meat had an amazing texture, the sauce was super flavorful and sweet from the onions and loved the addition of crunchy fried onion on top 👌 Really makes me wish there were more vegan restaurants serving traditional european food out there.
It's a little pricy but so worth it. The portion is massive, I was stuffed. I'd love to return one day to try the famous schnitzel 😁

If we came across Velani in a small town, we’d be impressed. But, this place doesn’t compare to the other places in the city. The ambience is not great and it’s very hot in the summer. I get no AC (super rare in Austria), but they should at least have fans. The food had flavor and we all liked our dishes to varying degrees. The Wiener Schnitzel, though, wasn’t like the real thing at all. The breading was separating from the Seitan, which made it tough to eat. If you want a good vegan Wiener Schnitzel, go to Tisch instead. The other dishes here are better.

In every country we travel to we want to try traditional food so happy to have vegan versions ar Velani.
Read moreWe got the onion roast and the caraway roast.
The texture and flavour of the onion roast was amazing, so similar to real meat.
The caraway roast was good too but not quite as realistic.
We have never tried this food so can't compare it to anything, but they were both quite salty and heavy. We were very full at the end.
They were both good though and worth trying
We also got the torte which was good but maybe not all that fresh as it was a bit firmer than we expected, but maybe this is how they're supposed to be

Overall a rather mediocre experience. The interior is not really appealing, and there is 0 air conditioning/cooling, making sitting inside an unpleasant experience.

- small mixed salad: okay, but too expensive for the size and ingredients (basically a few potatoes and coleslaw)
- Zwiebelrostbraten: unfortunately it tasted extremely bland, like 0 seasoning was added to the "meat" , the sauce, the potatoes or the crispy onions. The meat (I guess soy) had a nice consistency but due to the lack of seasoning you could clearly taste the soy steak.
- Kümmelbraten: very good, well seasoned, also the sides and the sauce.
Waiters were nice but took a long time to check the table to pay.

The restaurant was really cute, and the staff were super friendly. The meal was good. I had schnitzel (only my 2nd time), and it was good, though my friend said it was perfect in her opinion. I'd never had it as meat before, so I suppose her take was better than mine.

Tomato, watermelon, cucumber. It was very nice for summer.
My friend had chocolate cake & enjoyed it very much. I was too full to even have one bite.

Uns hat der Besuch im Velani gut gefallen. Die Wienerische Traditionsküche kann hier vegan genossen werden. Stutzen ließ uns das Ambiente, was weder modern noch traditionell wirkte. Außerdem hat uns irritiert, dass das Schnitzel nicht mit Preiselbeeren gereicht wird, die kosten fast 2€ (für eine kleines Schälchen) extra, genau wie ein einfacher Beilagenwechsel pauschal extra kostet.
