Authentic Austrian Comforts, Vegan-Style - Edit
We visited Velani this evening and it was such a great experience for traditional Austrian food done fully vegan. The menu is packed with classics, and although the schnitzel was sadly out of stock (the dish we were really looking forward to), everything we ordered was delicious. We had the soy Viennese goulash and the seitan onion roast with baked potatoes, along with spätzle on the side. Both mains were hearty, flavorful, and beautifully seasoned—the soy steak in the goulash was a highlight, and the gravy on the seitan roast was spot on.

Wir wollten traditionelle österreichische Küche und haben genau das bekommen. Das Restaurant war recht dezent aber schön eingerichtet, der Service sehr freundlich und schnell. Wir bestellten beiden das Schnitzel mit Kartoffelsalat (der dann aber leider aus war, konnten aber problemlos zwischen sehr vielen anderen Sides wählen) und den gebackenen "Käse". Das Schnitzel war riesig und super lecker, der Rest auch sehr gut! Einzig der Kaiserschmarrn war mir persönlich etwas zu fest.

Great restaurant out of the centre but easily accessible (opposite subway), that does fully veganised viennese food. Plenty of choices from goulash, schnitzel, dumplings and more.
Read morePrices average for the city, with a main meal c. 17-20€. We had the schnitzel (huge and delicious!), greave dumplings, mini goulash, and sachertorte to share. With two drinks came to c. 65€.
We booked as advised but was quiet for early dinner on a weekday until around 7:30pm

Went here on the reccomendation of a local friend who told us it was the best place to try traditional Austrian food, but vegan. We were super excited to try it since it's not often you get that chance.

Service was below par - there was a mixup we had to clarify when ordering drinks, and while our appetizers came quickly, we waited an hour for our main course (confirmed by the timestamps of pictures we took of the appetizers and mains). The food was great, but my main was super salty.
I'm also not sure what to make of the fact that everyone else's food came very quickly - albeit with mistakes severe enough that the food had to be sent to the kitchen.
There was another long, long wait in between asking to pay and actually being able to leave.
Again, the Vegan Viennese food was great, and I'm glad to have tried it. I'm really not sure if want to go back considering the mess service was though.

Very generous portions (I couldn’t finish my Wiener schnitzel) and so good. Service friendly and helpful if a little slow. Definitely recommend especially if you’re tired of having to quiz staff about whether something is vegan — it all is. We started with salads and my friend gas tge BBQ ribs with fried pita; me Wiener schnitzel cane with a potato salad. House red was nice as well. My friend also ordered a tiramisu and even though G.E. said he was full, he finished it in no time. I gather it was tasty!

Auch das Ambiente wirkte nicht so hochwertig, wie es die Preise erwarten lassen. Das Servicepersonal war freundlich, aber insgesamt war der Besuch eher ernüchternd.

Das Konzept des Velani finde ich großartig – ein rein veganes Restaurant, das versucht, die Klassiker der Wiener Küche pflanzlich neu zu interpretieren. Gerade in Wien ist das etwas Besonderes, und ich hatte mich entsprechend sehr auf den Besuch gefreut.
Wir hatten den kleinen gemischten Salat, das Wiener Saftgulasch mit Spätzle/Serviettenknödel und das Eierschwammerlgulasch. Der Salat war frisch und hat mir gut geschmeckt, bei den Hauptgerichten konnte mich der Geschmack leider nicht überzeugen. Das Saftgulasch hatte eine süßliche Note, die meiner Meinung nach nicht passt, und auch das Eierschwammerlgulasch wirkte wenig stimmig. Optisch waren die Gerichte eher schlicht angerichtet. Der Kaiserschmarrn schmeckte zwar vom Teig her gut, erinnerte mich aber eher an Waffelteig als an klassischen Kaiserschmarrn.
Was ich schade fand: Die Preise sind eher im höheren Segment angesiedelt, das Ambiente jedoch wirkt sehr einfach und passt nicht so recht zum Anspruch. Die Einrichtung ist kühl, die Atmosphäre wenig gemütlich. Das Servicepersonal war freundlich, das möchte ich positiv hervorheben.
Insgesamt war es für mich ein okayes Erlebnis, aber nicht so, dass ich es weiterempfehlen oder nochmals hingehen würde. Ich hoffe, dass hier noch etwas an Rezepturen, Präsentation und Atmosphäre gearbeitet wird – das Potential ist da, und ein veganes Traditionslokal in Wien wäre wirklich eine Bereicherung.

i have been there many times now, also with omni friends and everytime it was delicious and also non-vegans were satisfied. they serve tipically austrian/viennese food, but also have a changing seasonal menu with more international dishes.

Unique classic kitchen - Edit
This is an amazing vegan restaurant and in our opinion absolutely unique in the vegan section. Very few restaurants are specialized on traditional food (Austrian/German in this case) - most interpreting classic kitchen in an new way or are super healthy green styles bowls and stuff like this. This one here Austrian classic soul food at the highest levels!! Zwiebelrostbraten was so delicious - these people know absolutely what they do! It is in walking distance of the metro station Längenfeldgasse - highly recommend this place!!

Velani offers lots of veganised versions of traditional Austrian dishes. I had the Frittatensuppe and the Zwiebelrostbraten. The soup was a bit bland, underwhelming. The roast was good, but honestly also not that great. I'll definitely go back and check out other menu items.

Die Wartezeiten sind leider viel zu lang, das Essen aber ganz gut. Grammelknödel mit Sauerkraut gefielen mir nicht so, die Käsepspätzle aber ein cremigea Gedicht. Der Powidl Knödel war spitze, genau so wie die Nougatknödel, nur sind die niemals hausgemacht. Etwas teuer für das. Die Auswahl der Speisen ist exzellent.
