Laid back vibe and lots of options

Really enjoyed the atmosphere in here and the number of vegan options. Would definitely recommend the tempeh reuben and the vegan burger - both delicious! The salted chocolate ice cream was some of the best I've had.
Some of the bowls are a little lacking in flavour but the other dishes more than make up for it.

Pros: Mostly delicious food, Friendly atmosphere, Lots of options

Cons: Some dishes lack flavour

Everything Looks Delicious

Conscious Culture's menu is about 60% vegan - hopefully they'll cut out the "sustainable" turkey and beef soon! They have delicious-looking and reasonably-priced sandwiches, nachos, burgers, and desserts, and make their own sauces and vegan cheese.

Cool Place, Plenty Of Options

Conscious Culture has a good variety of vegan options. It is a small cafe with a bit of a hippie vibe. I had the vegan lentil curry over brown rice with tomato salsa, and curry kraut. The curry was a little bland, but still fine and the rest of the meal was colorful and healthy. My husband had the tempeh street tacos. The best part of the dinner was the banana split with vegan gelato. The gelato is made on the big island and they had quite a lot of flavors. For our split, we had coconut, golden macadamia, and rose cardamon. The split was then topped with cacao, strawberry sauce, nuts, and coconut. It was one of my favorite things I had on the Big Island. I definitely would get the gelato again.
I didn't get a chance to try their breakfast, but it looked like they had some tasty options.

Pros: Delicious vegan gelato, Healthy vegan options, Locally made kombucha

Conscious culture cafe

I are there during my vacation at Hawaii. I ordered the "classic conscious burger with a side dish of "grateful garlic kraut."
The burger was lovely, really tasty and I love it had sprouts in it. maybe just a tip for improvement would be cutting the pickles into slices so you can add them to your burger.
I found it a bit odd getting a full pickle next to my burger, since it's part of the dish I think most people would prefer it in small cut size so you could get a piece of it in every bite 0.o.
for the kraut, it was a bit sour and less to my liking so next time I definitely would have choose the brown rise or beans.
The place itself (even the bathroom is fully nature drawn) is decorated with gorgeous art and crystal pieces and have really nice atmosphere.

Pros: Tasty burger, nice atmosphere

Cons: not fully vegan

Some good plant-based options

I ordered the tempeh reuben - tasty. The choices for sides weren’t particularly appealing...wish there was a side of salad or veggies or fruit. But, I was pleased overall - good, friendly service and the place is obviously popular (lots of people).

Vegan Heaven in Paradise

I have been a vegan for 44 years . We traveled to Hilo from the Kona side on an afternoon and decided to have a bite to eat prior to returning to our vacation rental in Hawi..... we were initialy disappointed to see only a vegan freindly cafe still open, knowing vegan freindly usually is not the optimal spot , but still for vegans it may offer a few okay optiions ....
BINGO ......what a great spot...I would have to say my meal was one of the best vegan meals I have ever had ( Tempeh-tation Plate with cashew cheese) and the meals of my wife and friends were fabulous ...the selection was excellent and the quality superb. The cafe felt warm and inviting and with all the options it was hard to choose. I would have to say , the best vegan resturant on the island hands down . Any chance of opening on the Kona side or in Vancouver Canada in the near future ????
good on ya guys ....will be back next trip.

Kalanaka

Pros: Quality , Vegan selection and options, Good prices

Cons: zero... even though it serves meat options

Nice place to sit outside

Great place to sit on the sidewalk and watch life go by. We had the tempeh tacos and they were good - and a large portion to boot (we shared). We tried to add cashew cheese but they were out - oh well.

Friendliest staff ever!

Many vegan options. Long wait time

We loved the Classic Burger but didn't like the Tempeh tacos as they were too dry and needed more sauce.
Loved the ice cream and the kombucha.
We waited 40 min for our order to come out, the service is sooooo slow, even tough we were there outside rush hours. For our friends order they forgot the extra avocado.
Servers are nice and friendly, I wish the service was faster tough.

Pros: many vegan options

Cons: slow service

If the rating system would allow me to leave 5 STARS, I would in a healthy heartbeat!

We just moved to Hilo, and this was our first family restaurant experience. We are a family of 4 (all Vegan) and had some friends with us (not Vegan). Everyone ate something different, running the gamut from chili to banana split (vegan ice cream!) and it was all delicious. The atmosphere is open with great local art and upcoming events in Hilo town decorating the walls. Highly recommended!!!

Pros: Quality of Food, Local ingredients, Fantastic Atmosphere

Cons: Nope, None, Nada

5 stars! I want this place back home!

So good, this is a must stop if you are in Hilo, we stopped on our way out of town and wished we had gone for every meal :) Awesome friendly staff, and the food was SO good. I had the tempeh Rueben which has swiss cheese but you could sub avocado if vegan, and my hubby had the tempeh salad based on recommendation from the staff-so good. They also have an awesome variety kombucha on tap.

We are from Portland, OR-which has the BEST vegan fare in the country (in our opinion). This makes it hard to find good food when we travel-this DID NOT disappoint!

Pros: Quick service, Friendly Staff, Awesome food!

Cons: outside seating is just on a street sidewalk, seating uncomfortable-not a hang out place

I wish this had been my first stop

What good food, if I had stopped here first in Hilo I may have never eaten anywhere else or cooked food from the market, so perhaps its for the better we didn't happen upon Conscious Culture until our last day in Hilo... there was a huge party for lunch when we stopped in and the line didn't move for 1/2 hour, so we returned for dinner takeout at a down time. The staff were so friendly and helpful in answering questions. We had the tacos (should definitely be eaten right away rather than waiting a few hours because you are so stuffed from devouring the incredible vegan raw cheesecake with two scoops of vegan gelato while you wait for your takeout to be ready) and the tempeh reuben made vegan. It was all so, so good, and a lot of food. This would be my first stop if I were back in Hilo, the breakfast menu was tantalizing as well.

Pros: Delicious, ample, filling options, Friendly, smiling, untiring, accommodating staff, Breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Cons: If busy, you can't get in-that's how good it is, Serves meat :-(

Kom-BOOM-cha!

Great location, funky colour scheme, quick and easy menu and ordering. ORGANIC - so important in this day and age of frankenfoods. Friendly staff, tasty food and the best selection of kombucha on the island. Highly recommended by a very well travelled organic food officionado.

Yummmm

It is wonderful to have another vegan, healthy option in Hilo that serves delicious food! I had the Blessings Bowl (yummmm... and enough for two meals!) and the vegan raw cacao pie- both delightfully scrumptious! I will be coming here on a regular basis. :)
