Had to be dragged away - Edit
Had the mushroom omelette and the tempeh Reuben & both were great. The meat eater with me loved his burger. The house made cashew milk was unexpectedly delicious. The spicy pickles and hot sauce were great. Anyone who doesn’t like this place is seriously disturbed.

Food was adequate, not great - Edit
They do have a lot of menu options to choose from. My husband had the tempeh BLTA and I had the vegan tacos. There were only a few tables on there when we arrived, and we still waited almost 40 minutes for food to arrive. The tempeh on the sandwich was good, but the flavor needed to be amped up quite a bit. The tacos were dry and needed a LOT more of the crema. The black beans and rice that came with the tacos were unseasoned. The best part of the meal was the dill kraut my husband had as a side. Staff was friendly. Would not return.

Great food, great vegan coffee gelato - Edit
Loved everything we ate here, especially the cauliflower, and even the homemade chili sauces. The brownie didn't taste like much, but still with 5 stars if HC would let me.

Came here for breakfast and they had a great selection. Got the mushroom bi bim bap, but subbed the egg for a scoop of vegan cheese. Delicious! Then got vegan gelato for dessert. Yum!!

Five-star worthy! - Edit
This is our regular eating spot on Hilo, with several vegan options—all of which are amazing! The vegan tostada is my favorite for a light lunch. The sandwiches are great for a larger meal. They also have some of the best kombucha I’ve had AND offer kombucha cocktails that are delicious.

Great kombucha and food - Edit
Food is seriously really good. The patty in the conscious culture burger is so tasty. The purple sweet potato salad was very unique and delicious. The kombucha on tap is also well worth getting.

Tacos and hummus - Edit
There were quite a few options. I ordered the hummus and tacos. They ran out of cucumbers so I had to have chips. The tacos were not bad but they weren't great. At the end of my meal I was happy that I was able to eat something. I probably will not go back.

Back for breakfast - Edit
Dinner was so good last night that we came back for breakfast. Verde Vegano is beautiful and tasty. The sauce is mildly spicy. The ginger beet kraut is nicely spiced with the ginger flavor coming through. The French toast was very tasty. The “egg base” for dipping the bread is coconut milk and Bob’s Redmill egg replacer.

Great vibe - Edit
Great food and big servings. Even my 88-year old non-vegan mom liked the food! Not sure what parking is like during day, being it is in a busy location, but no challenges at night.

Delicious Breakfast - Edit
We tried two of their vegan breakfast items: Banana Walnut Sourdough French Toast (sweet) and the Verde Vegano (savoury). Both options were quite delicious! I'm hoping to go back for their lunch/dinner menu before we leave the island! Oh and the kombucha on tap was also delicious!

Yumm! - Edit
I had the on tap Root Booch and my husband had a Virgin Mary Marley. Both were yummy! We ordered the Vegan Tostada and Jerk Chicken Tostada because we weren’t that hungry. Both were yummy they were served in a small bowl, and it was very hard to eat. I recommend serving tostadas on a larger plate so you can either pick it up or cut it.

I really enjoyed their Tempeh BLTA. I ordered it with a side salad. The location looked really artistic and fun. I wish there would have a bit more seating areas but other than that I would come back.

AMAZING!!! - Edit
Died for the vegan Ruben that had homemade dill kraut. Ate it all too fast to take a picture. I think this place deserves 5 stars! Major plus is that family members that’s are not vegan can enjoy fresh fish tacos that they said were delicious.

Great vegan burger, washed down with tasty ice cold kombucha. Open fairly late for Hilo, which is a big plus. Would give five stars were it a fully vegan place.

Fantastic vegan options! - Edit
It's too bad HappyCow doesn't allow five star ratings for places with robust vegan and vegetarian offerings, because The Booch Bar deserves five stars. The vegan food here is really great (the Veg Head sandwich is my favorite sandwich on the island), the portions are big, the price is lower than what many restaurants charge for similar fare, the staff is kind, and the kombucha is delicious (if you're into that sort of thing).
Read moreAny time we have to go into Hilo for an afternoon of errands, we make a point of stopping in for lunch and it never disappoints. They always have vegan soup options, and their Cesar salad is made with vegan dressing (though they finish it off with a handful of parmesan, so be sure to ask for it without the cheese!). They also have Big Island Brewhaus on tap!
Sure, they crank reggae all day long, which can be incredibly annoying (that's just my bias, though – I hate that music) but that just goes to show you how great the food is – if I'm willing to listen to reggae for an hour in order to have a delicious lunch, then you know the food is worth it.
Pros: Many vegan and vegetarian options, Delicious food, Affordable
Cons: Reggae

Refreshing - Edit
Don’t make the same mistake we did and go to “Big Island Booch Kombucha” and wind up at a warehouse. We called and they kindly directed us to the right place.
Read moreWe each got a light of 4: 3 kombuchas and the jun. the jun was my favorite, so light but fresh! The turmeric ginger was my second favorite. But honestly all of them were good. The rose was good as well.
