Good vegan food - Edit
We enjoyed this place and the food was good but the other vegan restaurants in Venice had better more exciting food. This food was good but somewhat bland. We had the avocado and zucchini app, tempura veg with jam which were both good but not worth the price point. I had the ravioli (with a mashed potato centre) which was okay - could be a little more inventive there. My husband had the spaghetti with blank bean sauce which was better but lacked flavour as well. The desserts were really good though!!!! If you are looking for a good vegan meal you will certainly find it here just not anything to write home about.

Disappointing - Edit
I knew it was going to be expensive but the starter was extremely disappointing for €19! 4 slices of vegan bresaola filled with cream... the main was ok but overrated. I would not recommend this place.

Great vegan options and stupendous service. Half the menu is basically vegan, at well as half of the desserts. All of the food was very good and the mood was very fancy and romantic. 10/10 would eat again.

Character restaurant with an intriguing vegan menu - Edit
We selected this restaurant because of their intriguing vegan menu, which had 4 starters and 4 main courses, all a bit pricey yet each one was extremely delicious and even more fulfilling than the plate size would led us to believe. We had a reasonably priced organic Pinot Grigio from Trentino, which was also excellent and a good match for the food. The service was friendly, appreciative and quick. Depending on the other vegetarian options in Venice, we might come back as those other items on the menu sounded so good.

Slow service , noisy, overhyped and expensive - Edit
Waited 15 minutes for someone to take our order. 40 more minutes to receive the first course which was cubed zucchini and avocado with some jam on top, sprinkled with goji berries. After 40 more minutes of waiting, our main course still hasn’t arrived, so we left. The rather large room is so crammed with tables that it feels like your neighbor is eating on your lap. It’s incredibly noisy, we had to shout to be able to hear ourselves. How this place is full is beyond my comprehension. Absolutely awful.

fabulous and imaginative vegan food - Edit
I can’t rate this restaurant highly enough. I wish I could give it five stars! After a frustrating hour long walk around Venice looking for somewhere that might have a vegan option other that pizza without cheese my partner and I stumbled upon Mario Alla Fava. They have a separate vegan menu with starters, mains and desserts. Lots of the options are also gluten free. It’s always wonderful to find that a restaurant caters to vegan and gluten free diets, but Mario Alla Fava really went above and beyond. As soon as we let them know that we were vegan they brought us a vegan amuse-bouche and bread basket and couldn’t have been more gracious and helpful as hosts.
Read moreWe had a starter, main and dessert each and were really floored by all the food. It was so imaginative and full of flavour. The only time I’ve had vegan food made so creatively and to such a high standard was at a Michelin starred restaurant in the Aolian Islands.
We in fact loved it so much that we went again the second night. The After Eight dessert is the best dessert I’ve ever had vegan or not. I can’t of course vouch for the vegetarian options on the menu but everything I saw looked really good. We were sitting next to where they make the desserts and the millefeuille looked phenomenal.
We had a really special experience at Mario Alla Fava and will definitely return the next time we are in Venice. It’s important to note that the restaurant isn’t inexpensive but it’s most definitely value for money. A real experience, thank you.
Pros: Imaginative vegan menu , Brilliant and friendly service , Location

Really wanted to like this more - Edit
It was nice to find a vegan-friendly finer dining spot but the food underwhelmed. We were sat outside under a blue light I assume was to kill flies which really destroyed the atmosphere and ability to see and enjoy the presentation of the food. Staff were friendly and helpful but we weren’t all that impressed with the food. After a few nights in Venice we went to another place.

Good vegan menu - Edit
While the restaurant is primarily omnivore-oriented, they have a genuine vegan menu (a page in the regular menu) that is not just boiled vegetables but genuinely interesting food. Not only that, but half the desserts are vegan, and also more than just sorbet. Four choices each for appetizer and main course, and half a dozen desserts.
Read moreThe service is good, the food excellent, but the prices fairly high. We made reservation (31 Dec lunch), and it was a good thing; the place was packed. We paid over EUR 100 for two appetizers, two main courses, a dessert, and water, but it was well worth it for a holiday splurge with true gourmet vegan food.
Pros: Gourmet vegan options, Excellent food, Good service
Cons: Crowded

Vegan red wine! Hallelujah! - Edit
So, on our last and final evening I hadn't found any vegan wine, I was upset and disheartned...This restaurant was very close to our hotel and last minute we decided to try, I am so glad we did! It has such a romatic/cosy feel and the gentlemen working there were fabulous! I made a sad face about finding no vegan red wine in Italy and he shot off like a knight in shining armour and returned with a bottle of red! It was only €18!! I was a happy lady, there is very little understanding of vegan wine in Italy even if they serve vegan meals. The bread basket is vegan and they had around 6 mains. My friend had the creamed lasagne which was delicious. I had the fusili which was nice but.. I would rather have had hers. We would have loved dessert but we'd eaten WAY too much that day. It is a 12% service charge but they look after you well so I was more than happy to pay. It is a little on the expensive side, but they had full understanding of veganism and it was a relaxed dinner in a lovely restaurant.

Restaurant people were all nice and so kind Restaurant's decoration is so ellegance beautiful

I ordered lasagna with a potato cream sauce Server recomended me to eat pasta fusili but that menu is based on tomato and I want to eat something other than tomato
anyway food is soooooo nice and delicious
one bad thing is that portion is small but since I ate too much lunch and also eat many breads it was Ok
I really want to try dessert but I was too full to eat so I feel sad :(
I would definitely come again if I visit venice again
price is bit expensive because it has 12% tax and also extra price to seat but it is worth it

Slow service - Edit
It started well for me and my boyfriend. We were happy to see that they had a whole separate vegan menu; the starter was quite good (fake bresaola meat), the main was poor (green spaghetti with a bit of onion on top. But the real con for us was when we decided to order dessert. They didn’t say that they had to make it from scratch (which is not a bad thing per se) but if you have limited time to visit the city (like a guided tour day like us) then is a problem because it took them about 40min to serve them and there were only about 6 customers total in the place.

If I could give 5 stars then I would. This place was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we walked in to the second we left, we felt very included and special - even ordering off the vegan menu. I would highly recommend this as a place to go not only for the service but for the delicious food.

Upscale restaurant with inventive vegan menu - Edit
Based on the not so good reviews here, we were unsure whether to try it or not, but we did, and we were absolutely satisfied. The service was excellent, and the vegan menu was nice and inventive. They offer four appetisers, four pasta dishes, and three desserts. We started with their vegan bresaola with rice cakes and sprouts, and then we opted for corn tagliatelle with fresh veggies and almonds, and lasagna with potato cream, green beans, pesto and pine nuts. Everything was delicious. Their desserts are even better: the apple tarte tartin with rice gelato and cherry variegato was really scrumptious. Expensive but well worth it.

Quality food - Edit
There were loads of vegan options including deserts which is rare and they were lovely (I tried both the apple tart and the chocolate cake too). I ate the lasagna which was amazing but the portion size was very small so keep that in mind along with the price as it’s definitely an expensive high-end restaurant. With that in mind, the non vegan food was a little over the top for my family - my brother hates vegetables and is super plain in the food he eats but the chef made him spaghetti bolognese, which wasn’t on the menu, to accommodate him which is great when you’re the only vegan in the family dragging everyone to each restaurant every meal to make sure you have something you can eat. Service was great also!

Delicious food, great staff, small portions and a bit pricey. - Edit
This restaurant was nice and easy to find using Google maps. The staff welcomed you very warmly, took your coats and sat you down promptly. And it's a lovely little family restaurant to be at.
Read moreYes the portions are small and the prices medium to high but it is a fine dining restaurant so you expect it... and the food was excellent.
I had the gnocchi dish and my girlfriend had the linguine dish and we were both very pleased with both dishes.
I find it hard to find non-vegan restaurants which offer deserts; this place offers 3 to choose from.
Looking at the previous reviews left by people it's mentioned that there were no prices on the inside menu and the staff tried to haggle you into buying the more pricey stuff.... there was none of this with our visit, so the staff have clearly taken the reviews on board and improved their service to satisfy the customers.
Worth a visit if you're in Venice, I recommend going for lunch rather than dinner due to the portion sizes.
Pros: Friendly staff, Delicious food, Good options
Cons: Expensive, Small portions

5* vegan food - Edit
Mario alla Fava had a dedicated vegan menu with four or five options for each course. I had papa al pomodoro, which was a mouthwatering tomato pie topped with crispy red onions; it was light, perfectly seasoned and had the most divine rich flavour from the freshly roasted tomatoes and herbs.
Read moreDessert was incredible; apple tarte tatin topped with cherry ice cream (made with rice milk) decorated with beautiful rose petals. It was tangy, sweet and packed with flavour.

To go or not again is up for debate... - Edit
We found this restaurant online as boasting their (newer) vegan menu due to, "an ancient, but at the same time, a modern and currently popular philosophy." Hmmm... We found the location easily (Venice can be confusing to navigate, at least for me) and were warmly ushered in. However, we had NO idea how posh the restaurant would be and though we were dressed nicely, we felt a little out of place. Service was exquisite but we did sense they preyed on us as tourists. They nudged us, albeit gently, to buy their Sicilian olive oil in which we were given a thimble-sized sample. We passed. When ordering wine and asking for a nice Syrah, they suggested the top priced bottle. We didn't fall for it and compromised for something in the low $30's. A couple next to us were either local or less obviously tourists. We never saw the olive oil sales push on them and when they ordered drinks, it was settled; no encouragement for a more expensive selection. It was also odd that the vegan menu had NO prices which made me nervous. (The outside menu did list prices; the one handed to you at the table does not.) The appetizer I selected was an artichoke dish and was truly delicious. The main course, sadly, I recall as being yummy but not so amazing as I really don't even remember what it was! I don't feel compelled to return. Our bill was about $120 that night for just the 2 of us. We let it go as our last night in Venice and being on vacation but normally, we wouldn't have found this justifiable. Also be aware that the bathrooms are old world style so it may be a shock if you've never seen a toilet hovering inches off the ground. :( Still, the ambiance was inviting, the staff jolly, and the food top-notch. I can't really complain. Much. :)

Best meal in Venice -- vegan or not! - Edit
With just one family member a vegan, we eat at all kinds of places and Venice was no exception. But this restaurant-- which we had trouble finding at first--was rated tops by everyone of the many meals eaten in Venice. The food was inventive and delicious, especially the desserts. Beautiful presentation as well.

Overpriced and bland - Edit
The location, restaurant, and service were good but the price and the food were not good.
Read moreStarters were between €15 - €17, first course €17 - €19
We had the hemp pasta with goji and cinnamon (completely tasteless) and linguini al farro with turmeric and broccoli (decent, but not worth €17)

Fantastic Vegan menu, definitely recommend! - Edit
It's a real shame the maximum I can give this review is 4/5 stars as I feel they deserve all 5 stars for their effort in their vegan menu. The food was wonderful and the atmosphere in their outdoor seating area was so relaxed and peaceful. The staff were very friendly and professional, even letting me practice my terrible Italian! It's a little pricey ($120 for 3 courses with two people) but it's worth it. The best meal we've had in Venice 😊

Amazing! - Edit
Don't understand why you can't give a 5 star rating for a restaurant that has a separate vegan menu... but yeah.
Read moreI took my partner to Venice for 2 days on 27/04/17 for her birthday, and having done my research beforehand, I decided to take us for a meal here, and we were not disappointed!
Like I said above, yes they have meat and lobster etc on the menu, but they also offer a vegan menu, with 3/4 options per appetizer, main & dessert.
The service and presentation were second to none, the staff were great and very friendly, and the food itself tasted amazing!! I'm not vegan myself but decided to have a vegan starter (Was the one with zucchini... yum!!)
My partner being vegan, was very impressed with both the restaurants offerings and my choice to take us there :)
I called the restaurant before we went to book a table and tell them it was my partners birthday and ask if they could do anything special and they gave us both a glass of champagne and also turned the lights down and sang happy birthday when bringing out our desserts (my partner chose the small chocolate cake and they put a candle in a raspberry which was quite funny).
It is definitely on the pricey side! And was by far the most expensive meal we had in Venice, but was so worth It!
Our meal cost 130 euros and consisted of; 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 desserts, bottle of water, 1 beer, 1 Orange champagne, complimentary bread basket & 2 complimentary limoncello shots (And the 2 birthday champagnes). A service charge of 12% is automatically added and also a small tax fee of around €3.70.
The restaurant is just a short walk from Rialto bridge so not difficult to find, but also wasn't too busy either. A few steps away is a pub so whilst waiting for our booked meal time we had a drink in there.
Overall we would definitely recommend this restaurant and if visiting Venice again we will go back!
Pros: Vegan menu with lots of options, Friendly staff & excellent service, Lovely food
Cons: Expensive, Aside from wines, small drink selection
