Tasty food in family run vegan restaurant - Edit
Clean and simple setting. Kapphet cooked me the fried basil and the larp - both of whoch were delicious. They pick fresh herbs from the garden and don't use herbicides. Food can take a little time but is well worth the wait. Had a great chat with Sengkeo about veganism globally. He speaks excellent english. Note I asked him and can confirm they are fully vegan. No fish sauce is used. Things are slow in vang vieng as tourism slowly opens up and I think ethical little eateries like this need our support. If they are not there, call out or message ahead of time on whats app 856 20 9194 9923. Mains around 30k kip, smaller plates 20-25k.

Not fully vegan :( - Edit
Just when you think you’re safe from the omnipresent fish sauce!
Read moreThe restaurant looked half closed when we arrived - no other customers, an empty drinks fridge, no music and nobody around. But after we called out a lady appeared from the back.
We ordered larp, papaya salad and pineapple shakes (asked for no milk just in case). The food took a while but we could see the lady preparing everything behind the counter and picking fresh herbs & chillies from the garden, and we didn’t mind the wait.
The larp was really tasty and redeemed this place somewhat - tofu with sprouts, green onion, some noodley looking things and loads of fresh herbs. But unfortunately the papaya salad - there it was - that strong funky flavour of fish sauce. Disappointing when we thought this was a vegan restaurant.
I still gave 3 stars because, well it’s Laos and unfortunately these things happen. And the larp was really good, just a shame about the fishy papaya salad. I would probably give this place another chance, just order with the same precaution I do at regular restaurants - check for no fish sauce, etc.
Pros: cheap food (mains 15-20k), larp and shakes were nice
Cons: fish sauce!, not fully vegan despite having it in the name, weird empty restaurant

100% vegan - Edit
The food was okay. The Pad Thai we had were just noodles without any tofu, carrots or veggies. The noodle soup was okay but also not much ingredients. We had to search for someone because there was no one around when we arrived. The guy we've found shouted very mean at a lady serving us. The lady serving us didn't looked happy. Seems some kind of sad. I hope they can improve there food and service. Would really like to love this place but it was not a nice experience.

Weird atmosphere, cold food - Edit
I really wanted to like this place as it’s the only 100% vegan place in town. When we arrived the man and women working there were shouting at each other and didn’t seem phased by the fact there was a few customers there. The man seemed pretty annoyed they even had any customers. Was pretty awkward but we brushed it aside as it is Laos after all. We ordered a pad Thai each and it took nearly an hour to come, when it did it was just rice noodles with a couple of bean sprouts on top... not sure if that’s how it normally comes or they’d ran out ingredients. Also it was cold. The worst pad Thai I’ve had in Asia unfortunately. Very strange but luckily it only cost 15k.

Fine Thai food - Edit
Wasn’t blown away by anything. Green curry was fine. Papaya salad had no flavor and barely any ingredients. Nice to have a vegan option, but there is another place down the road that we’ll go to instead.

Fine - Edit
Had rice noodle soup, curry, papaya salad, and a banana shake. The rice noodle soup was decent but not very flavorful, wouldn't get it again. Curry doesn't come with rice which is an extra 10000 (so 30000 total). The curry was good but I preferred the curry at Veggie Tables up the road, which is just a little more expensive (35000). Papaya salad was pretty meh. It's literally just spicy shredded papaya and tomato. No green bean, carrot, peanuts, the usual in a papaya salad. Banana shake was also pretty meh. Super watery. The prices are good though 🤷🏼♀️ One of the more underwhelming meals I've had in the last 4 months in SE Asia.

Fresh and Delicious - Edit
I choose to try the Larp and it was super tasty, though it all looked so good I nearly ordered more than one meal. Great prices - around the 15-20,000 kip mark. Food did take awhile to come out but I wasn't in any hurry. They have a garden and offered to make a smoothie with sweet mangos straight off the tree!

A welcome find in Vang Vieng - Edit
This is a sweet little open air restaurant. The owner/cook was friendly, welcoming, and spoke decent English. We ate the larb, papaya salad, and a green curry with mushrooms and veggies. All were quite tasty! The larb was flavored differently than Thai larb, here featuring mint and other herbs. I thought it was delicious! The green curry was a water-based soup (not coconut milk), and the flavors were excellent. Before she started cooking, the owner picked fresh greens from plants growing right in front of the restaurant, which added a fun touch.
Read moreI saw what appeared to be sweetened condensed milk on the counter, so it’s possible that not everything is 100% vegan. Probably worth double checking, at least with your drink orders.
Pros: Good food, Friendly owner
Cons: Slow service, Unclear if everything is 100% vegan
