The only TRUELY vegan place in Vang Vieng!! - Edit
Absolutely incredible traditional Lao food made vegan (actually vegan, unlike most places who just use the word as a marketing ploy to get tourists). This is the only truly vegan restaurant in Vang Vieng. The owners Kapphet and her husband Sengkeo are both vegan themselves and have mastered the art of making a bunch of Lao dishes deliciously vegan. I ate here every day (sometimes twice a day) for a week and tried almost everything on their menu. Everything is absolutely delicious (and I'm used to Melbourne vegan food).
Read moreSengkeo is proud of his burger recipe, made from jackfruit that he grows, and rightly so - it's fantastic. I'd also thoroughly recommend the larp sandwich, green curry, rice paper rolls, fried rice (seriously tasty), all of the soups and the mixed smoothie! Try everything!
All the food is made from scratch and with love, so don't go here with a Western attitude expecting to eat (pre-prepared) food in 15 minutes. Meals come on Lao time.
Sengkeo is also working on helping the locals become more environmentally aware and has a bunch of cool projects on the go - have a chat with him about it (he speaks fantastic english) and get involved if you can!
Thank you Kapphet and Sengkeo ❤️🌿✨️

Tasty fresh local food! - Edit
Ate here twice and all the food we had was amazing, the owner was so lovely and everything was so fresh! The larb was a standout dish, would also recommend the papaya salad.

Mejor vegano en Vang Vieng - Edit
El primer restaurante vegano en Bang Vieng, el dueño es vegano y está implicado en concienciar a los locales.

Vegan local food - Edit
The food was good but unfortunately the service wasn’t great. The food took a long time to arrive (which is fair since they made everything from zero) but even after asking for the check it took around 10 min for them to come and pick it up again, which is too long considering we were the only people there. Nothing too bad but worth mentioning

Must visit in Vang Vieng! - Edit
This is the sweetest place I have found to eat vegan food on my travels so far. Kapphet Vegan is run Sengkeo and his wife, a Lao couple who are themselves vegan and really do practice what they preach. It is really rare to come across a vegan restaurant where you can directly support Lao locals, that wasn’t set up by westerners which makes it extra special.
Read moreThey just about made it through the covid pandemic and are still deeply affected, so please show them some love and make their day by paying a visit. Sengkeo also does outreach programmes in the community via the Saleo project, and holds events to help raise awareness of veganism and its benefits to Lao people - as he mentioned it’s not always western travellers he needs to convince, it’s his own friends and family in the town and beyond.
He is super chatty and sat with me whilst I ordered and ate my food. The vegan take on the traditional Lao larb sandwich (first vegan version known to Lao) was so delicious and I had to go back a second time to try his jackfruit burger which he grows in his garden and has seasoned to perfection! And of course I ordered a delicious mixed smoothie each time, made with fruits from their garden and perfect with no sugar needed.
We spoke about many topics and he gave me such a unique and interesting insight into Lao life, but the main takeaways and what forms his main ethos is “sharing is caring”, to not judge others but to treat them always with kindness and most importantly to “smile, because the world needs it”.
Thank you so much Kapphet Vegan! I hope to be back some day.
Pros: Lots of vegan options , Relaxed and friendly atmosphere , Delicious and unique food

Delicious food in a while - Edit
The food itself was delicious and freshly made, pricing is okay. The fact that only one lady prepares all the dishes for all the guest causes waiting times longer than an hour. If that is a problem for you, better make sure to come when no other guests are around.

Tasty food, interesting and chatty owner - Edit
3 out of 4 dishes we ordered on 2 trips here were good - tofu and larb sandwiches were really tasty and would recommend and the coconut noodle soup quite nice. The pad Thai was a quite bland however and a small portion. Don’t be too put off if the owner comes to sit and chat with you - he certainly likes a natter. Of the 3, this is the definitely the best veggie/vegan place in town.

Tasty Vegan Food in Chilled part of town - Edit
The food was really nice, we were treated by the owner who gave us recommendations and recent additions to the menu. I recommend the mixed smoothie & jackfruit burger which was a new addition when we arrived.

So so - Edit
I was not satisfied. It is because I received something which looked very different from the picture and had mock meat instead of tofu (I was told there is tofu inside but maybe translator doesn’t work well with tofu/soya). I also don’t like fact they charge extra 1$ for plain rice.

Okay food, long wait - Edit
We stopped by to have the tofu sandwich and the sweet and sour tofu. They make it to order and it took a while. Maybe because we were the first of the day. Good portion sizes.

The owner is part of the Moral Foundation which is a vegan charity in Laos. He is the creator of the larp sandwich as well - would recommend trying this. It was so great to sit down and talk to him about his vegan experience in Laos and what he’s doing to progress the movement there.

Underwhelming - Edit
The waiter spoke excellent English so I asked for recommendations but he didn't want to give any and would drop his head in exhaustion at my questions. I ended up ordering a pad thai, which was ok but a small portion compared to what I am used to. My friend's lard sandwich looked better, but our order took over an hour to prepare with only three people ahead of us who had already ordered before we arrived. Prices are average but you can definitely eat (more) for cheaper. Overall I was disappointed.

Amazing Vegan Restaurant! - Edit
It’s a family business and only one woman is cooking. I wouldn’t recommend going there if you’re in a hurry because it takes a while, but it’s totally worth it! Food is so delicious and cheap. In general very authentic and english skills are good! #Veganuary

Stumbled upon this all vegan place and was not disappointed. Had the pad Thai and it was delicious, probably the best food I've had in Laos. The owner was also very friendly and has a great ethos/mission about bringing veganism to Laos. Cheap and tasty, don't skip this place, it's only a 5 min walk from the centre.

Underwhelmed - Edit
We we’re excited to go to Kapphet but we were a bit underwhelmed. The staff didn’t seem to notice that we were there and they forgot our drink (they were also understocked which we thought was a bit sad actually). The larb sandwhich was decent but nothing to write home about. The noodle soup was fine but not very filling.

Good food - Edit
Nice restaurant with delicious food. A great opportunity to try the Laotian dish Laab as a vegan variant. The owner also forwarded us a PDF explaining in different languages (more than 100) which foods are avoided in veganism.

A great find - Edit
Good food, friendly owner, and reasonable prices, what more can one ask for? Any chance to try a veg version of a traditional meat dish is worth taking and the vegan larp was delicious. Of course, I can’t compare it to the meat version but I would happily return to this spot.
