whole foods plant based - Edit
I grabbed a pizza that they only make on the weekends. It was delicious. It is a different way of eating with no oil, no added sugar and salt. It takes time for your taste buds to get accustomed to it. Go with an open mind and give whole foods plant based eating options a try.

100% WFPB - Edit
I ordered the organic spinach & sweet potato lasagna and the organic mushroom medley enchilada to go. They are currently closed for dining in, but continue to offer carry out. There is also limited seating available just outside the restaurant. The staff I talked to (Pericles Silva) was incredibly helpful but not pushy, he treated me to an educational chat while I waited for my order.

The enchilada was delicious and perfect as is. It's served on a bed of salad.
The lasagna was a bit on the bland side, but I added ground cumin to it at home since my order was to go, and voila. It was so yummy with cumin.
Pros: WFPB, Organic , No salt, No oil, No sugar
Cons: Pricey , Preparation takes time

Go with an open mind - Edit
Greenfare is probably the only restaurant of its kind. That’s sad - there should be a Greenfare on every corner because the food is cooked the way we are supposed to eat. We are so accustomed to tasting salt and additives that our palettes reject REAL FOOD. I’ve been to Greenfare countless times and when I read some of the negative reviews (as it relates to the food), it is so disappointing because I literally just think, “Wow, you don’t get it.” Go to Greenfare with an open mind, look around, be open to something different, talk to the owners. The food will taste different and frankly, you may not fall head over heels in the love the first time you try it. I ate nothing but Greenfare for 3 weeks straight and what happened to my mind, body and taste buds was incredible. That was in 2018. My husband is on his way to pick up a 6-meal order as I type.

This place ain’t it - Edit
I ordered the spinach Alfredo pasta and the cauliflower buffalo wings. The Alfredo had zero taste. I had to add salt which I never do. The cauliflower was good which saved this review from getting one star.

Mas Y Menos - Edit
Not great, Not bad. Their recipes will probably not appear to the standard pallet. This doesn’t mean they’re bad for what they are. They’re just dramatically different than what you May accustomed to. While the prices are higher than they should be, what disappoints me the most is that they would not make me a smaller portion than the advertised $16 Mac n cheese. I won’t be returning. Wasn’t a bad experience but it also wasn’t extraordinary.

Overpriced and bland, cult like atmosphere - Edit
This place is all about being "healthy" but they really just go to far in pursuit of this. For example, they don't include salt, gmo foods, or non organic foods and they're all whole foods. I'm ok with this place focusing on being healthy but it's too much, this restaurant feels like a cult. GMO foods are not bad for you and organic foods are not better than their alternative. The food they serve represents a fad form of veganism that appeals more to people with Orthorexia than normal people. Fads within veganism just hurt the movement and only serve to further people's anxieties regarding food. And to top it off, it's extremely expensive for the portions they give you. Eating healthy shouldn't be something that is only reserved for the richest people in our society. If what they serve represents the ideal diet make it accessible to everyone (spoilers, there is no perfect diet). Putting salt in your food or eating a peace of bread is not going to kill you (or even meat and dairy for that matter, sorry guys).. There's a naked lunch on the same street that is much better and more affordable (though still imo too much)

Hello Matthew!
Read moreThank you for visiting GreenFare! We are focused on health of the animal who eats the most other animals; research shows that over 60% of people who go vegan do it because they feel better themselves, while only 3% of the population will do it for the animals. So I focused on where the opportunity to change minds was the greatest.
We watch people reverse high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and even reverse congestive heart failure; these are the ones who stick with it!
If you are vegan, you have probably been as disturbed as I have about the research on rats with GMO products showing low birth weight, allergies and cancer in third generation rats eating these foods. Also, the endochronatic disruptors kill bees and insects necessary for pollination. The fastest growth sector in the food industry is a demand for organic food. Educated consumers are demanding it; executives in the food industry buy it for their families and serve gmos to those who don't know better.
I'm an engineer by training and pretty far from a cult leader, although my belief system is to offer the healthiest food that is possible, pay our staff well, and do as many positive things that we can for the community.
We like the Naked Lunch too! MOM's is a great company and we love to partner with them on our composting and recycling.

I felt the need to comment on this post. Respectfully, I would have to disagree with the post's main points. First of all, veganism is much more than just a trend or a cult. If you were to read anything by a researcher who wrote The China Study, at Cornell University who teaches a whole food plant-based course T Colin Campbell, Dr. Neil Bernard, Dr. Micheal Greger, Dr. Klaper, Dr. Dean Ornish, and the Heart Reversal Doctor Caldwell Esselstyn who has many devoted SAD dropouts, meaning the Standard American Diet, you might start to understand why these foods might seem not salty enough, or oily enough. Being vegan is many different things to many different people. I think it is nice to see a restaurant that is more whole food plant-based and understands and wants to help educate their diners as to why they prepare these wonderful menu options. It is nice to have a place where people who are on a whole food plant-based diet can go and not just be relegated to a salad and some boring pasta primavera option cooked with dairy and cheese. I mean they are a specialized place. There is nothing wrong with that. They fill a need and do it well.

Good food- odd atmosphere - Edit
The menu has a wide variety. Had the cauliflower buffalo pieces (good), stir fry (okay), lasagna (good but under spiced), chocolate nut pie (very good), pumpkin mouse (not great). About halfway through our meal a loud television started playing with an evangelical vegan talking about nutrition. It was weird. I asked if they could turn it down and they said they couldn’t, there was a class happening. I wish they had let us know what was going on when we were seated. Service was nice but could be more professional. While it gave off cult vibes, it is good to see the effort to educate, just didn’t expect it to drown out my dinner conversation.

Hello MissAmelia!
Read moreThanks for trying GreenFare... I opened the restaurant to share the opportunity for others to learn more about the wide range of benefits of a whole food, plant based diet. While I went vegan myself for animal reasons, I came to learn how dramatically health can improve when diet changes; even vegans who go through our program usually see cholesterol drop significantly.
I apologize for the noise from the class; we are looking for another space to host these as well. A lot of people end up listening and learning, although I realize not everyone wants that experience when they go out to dine. we'll work on improving the staff and their interaction with customers.

Delicious healthy world-class vegan food - Edit
I have enjoyed numerous dining experiences at GreenFare. During each of my visits, the food has been exceptional, fresh, and delicious. This restaurant is one of only about a half dozen that have been officially certified as organic by the USDA. All of the food they serve is the healthiest possible, and is made from scratch as whole food, plant-based dishes prepared without oil or salt. The staff and management are wonderful, and treat the food they serve as a labor of love. The master chef has designed all dishes from scratch and has mastery knowledge of flavoring with organic herb and spice combinations. I have traveled and dined all over the United States and worldwide, and genuinely believe GreenFare is presently one of the top ten vegan restaurants on Earth. You are truly missing a world-class experience if you don't give them a try.

Great Concept, Food OK - Edit
I really wanted to like this restaurant -- it's relatively near where I live (within 30 mins driving), it's 100% vegan and organic, and it's next to Mom's, my favorite store. I went there twice before leaving this review, because after the first visit I wanted to believe that I just picked the wrong thing on the menu.
Read moreSo the first time I went, which was a few months ago, I got a paella, which had veggies and mushrooms. It had a really earthy flavor which was borderline bitter. The paella itself was also pretty dry, while the veggies looked and tasted like a chunky salsa. I thought I was not into the earthy flavor just as a matter of taste, so was hoping to pick something else next time.
So the next time was last night. I had to go to Mom's in Herndon and thought it's a good opportunity to try this place one more time. I got the ginger stirfry rice with tofu. The rice is mushed and clumpy -- which is a fail for rice as it is the equivalent of overcooked falling-apart pasta. The taste of the stirfry was fine but nothing to write home about. Flavor tends to be on the bland side, but I understand that's to be expected given there is low salt. But honestly I think the flavor is bland because it was too watery. If there is good use of real ginger I think it would have accentuated the flavor.
I have to say, while my review for the food was not positive, the people that worked there that served us both times were extremely nice and accommodating. Just wish I liked the food....

A Great Place to Eat - and Learn about Plant-Based Diets - Edit
GreenFare is a cozy cafe featuring charming, farmhouse decor. It’s tastefully decorated with wood-top tables, cloth napkins, and comfortable ladderback chairs. The front window fills the restaurant with natural light, and a live potted plant decorates each table.
Read moreThe atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed, and the restaurant aims to serve quality meals rather than rushing to put a plate on your table. Be prepared to soak in the ambiance and savor your meal.
The menu at GreenFare contains an interesting variety of meat-free meals. If you’re looking for an Italian selection, the current menu offers Organic Spinach and Sweet Potato Lasagna or Organic Spinach Alfredo Pasta. Into Oriental? Try the Organic Portobello Ginger Stir-fry Bowl or the Organic Thai Quinoa Bowl. Want Mexican? Opt for the Organic Southwestern Chipotle Bowl. You get the point: there is something for everyone.
If you have food allergies or just certain preferences, GreenFare’s menu takes the guesswork out of deciding what ingredients might be included in each dish. The menu contains easy-to-spot symbols that indicate possible allergens like tree nuts, peanuts, wheat and soy.
GreenFare proudly serves food that is prepared without adding salt, oil, or sugar (SOS) during preparation. This SOS-free style of cooking is particularly beneficial for people who are suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, or obesity — although it behooves all of us to pay attention to these ingredients.
My husband and I have visited GreenFare several times, and we have always enjoyed the food we’ve been served. The entrees and side dishes are packed full of veggies and generously flavored with herbs and spices. They are also normally served with a broth-based or nut-based sauce that’s designed to carry the flavor and complement the veggies. I feel better just looking at the vibrant colors and variety of textures in the GreenFare dishes!
GreenFare is serious about fresh, sustainable, organic food. Most of the produce in their kitchen travels for 150 miles or less. The restaurant also recycles and composts its waste. And GreenFare is a carbon-neutral establishment, offsetting 100% of its energy use with wind power.
While there, be sure to buy a few books about plant-based diets, and check out the upcoming educational events - book signings, films, and lectures.
