Delicious Tacos! - Edit
Copious vegan options at this vegetarian fast-casual restaurant. Fast service and delicious fare. No outdoor seating but there is a park right next door with tables and shade, along the canal. Or you can walk down to the riverfront for a beautiful view of the Kennedy Center, Roosevelt Island and Key Bridge.

Vegan tacos!!! - Edit
I tried the taco trio- charred green bean, rainbow carrot and pea shoot, chipotle sweet potato hash. All of them were delicious, I think favorite was the green bean taco! Not every taco can be made vegan but most can. Other options are available including enchiladas and quesadillas. Also, do yourself a service and try one of the cinnamon coconut cookies. You don’t taste any coconut if you’re concerned about that, sooooo yummy!!!!

Best vegetarian taco in DC, but not much competition - Edit
Need to customize the tacos to make them vegan. For bigger or more active people, I think 3 tacos there is more like a low-protein snack than a complete meal, and it's quite expensive for that. The tacos themselves tasted pretty great. I'd go back, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Good enchiladas - Edit
Lots of vegan options if you ask for vegan cheese. We tried enchiladas, quesadillas and tacos. Quesadillas were by far the best. Tacos were good but lacked in flavour a little. Very cute indoor eating area, especially upstairs

Beyond overrated - Edit
I was excited to try this place, then dissapointed and surprised that it was mentioned in so many "best vegan" type blog reviews. The service was great and the restaurant/location was cute, but the tacos were mediocre at best. I got the trio and tried 3 of the 4 different vegan taco options. I have to say- I've had a TON of tacos in my life, and it's pretty hard to mess up a taco in my eyes, but the vegan versions were just uninteresting. Plus they all fell apart almost instantly. There are better places that are more creative in the city!

Even less vegan than I remember - Edit
None of the options are vegan as priced, so I’m paying for cheese and crema that I’m not eating that they can’t sub for. All vegetarian, but for a vegan, kind of disappointing.
Read morePros: Helpful staff, Nice quality vegetables, nothing overcooked, Staff know what a vegan is
Cons: Nothing on the menu is actually vegan, No vegan cheese or crema to sub at this location

Interesting eating experience - Edit
As a vegan I asked for modifications to the Tacos I ordered - had the mushroom and asparagus ones (no cheese) and some black beans on the side with tortilla chips. It was interesting but the mushroom combination definitely worked better than the asparagus. The beans were good but very salty. Great Elderberry Kombucha though!

Cons: Some combos are hard to eat , Not all combos are successful , Would be good if they offered vegan cheese

Great food and drinks! - Edit
Nearly everything can be done vegan. I had the choose your own 3 tacos and can’t stop thinking about them. A delightful mushroom taco, sweet potatoes, and a smoky collard greens. I also got a great cocktail that was just my speed - and a decent price too.

Excellent! - Edit
This little super casual taco spot was far better than I expected. Creative taco fillings in authentic corn tortillas. Nice sides. Added bonus: gluten free, vegan desserts that are terrific - not too sweet and not oily/greasy. Will definitely be back.

Tasty, Quick Meal - Edit
I ordered three tacos at this conveniently located order-at-counter restaurant in Georgetown.
Read moreThe tacos were made really quickly, and they were very flavorful.
All of the tacos can be made vegan, so let them know ahead of time.
I felt the taco tortillas could have been made a bit thinner so that they do not crumble when eating the tacos.
Pros: all taco can be made vegan, delicious tacos
Cons: tortillas could be thinner to avoid crumbling

Maybe if vegetarian, not worth for vegan - Edit
While they can make most tacos vegan, they do not provide substitutions to non-vegan items and the vegan experience is not worth the price tag. You’re better off eating at chiptole
Read morePros: Relatively cheap
Cons: Lacking in real vegan options, No alternative is provided for non-vegan items, Chipotle is more filling

Outstanding lunch stop in Georgetown - Edit
This is a fabulous place for lunch. You could take-out if you're pressed for time. I took a seat upstairs and relaxed over my meal. The taco trio means you can pick 3 of 5 different flavors, and I loved each one, lots of tasty flavors! A big variety of pressed fruit drinks, beer and wine. Friendly and fast service.

Cute Location and Unique Tacos - Edit
This is a very cute little location in George Town, and they seem to be very environmentally mindful. The staff were very friendly and were happy to make vegan tacos. There is a nice range of drinks that include wine and beer. I didn't find them overly filling but the flavours were nice and fresh.

Vegan tacos!!! - Edit
I ate here last weekend for a Vegetarian Society of DC book club discussion of Meatonomics - how perfect is that? I ordered the Taco Trio, and learned (like previous reviewers) that all but one of the tacos on this all-vegetarian menu are veganizable. I chose the beet, butternut squash, and sautéed cabbage tacos. All were great, though the cabbage was my favorite.

Vegetarian Tacos! - Edit
This place is amazing! There is really only 1 or 2 places in GTown that boasts an all veg menu, so it is nice that Chaia added to that eatery collection in this part of town.
Read moreWhat can you eat here? Tacos! All of them can be vegan except the creamy kale and potato - just ask for them to hold the cheese / cream sauces on the others. The veggies are fresh and tacos are deliciously made with fresh homemade corn tortillas! The best corn tortillas for tacos in the entire city (IMO)!
Fresh pressed juices, coffee, and other beverages (wine, too) are available. They have some baked goods from a local bakery, as well. Side dishes complement these delicious veg-based tacos, including a rice dish and a salad.
Everything here is fresh and delicious. You will love it. Walk a little further south off the main M Street drag to find this hearty, happy, all veg taco shop. You will be so happy you did!
Pros: 100% vegetarian, Vegan is easy!, Fresh veggies
Cons: 1 taco is not vegan, Not 100% vegan, No nachos

hidden gem! - Edit
This is an absolutely adorable spot. You can get the tacos and sit inside or sit outside in the adjacent little shaded garden courtyard. First I was disappointed because all of the tacos are heavily cheese or cream-based. But it turns out that they can make any taco vegan, except one. They also sell incredibly delicious vegan homemade cookies! And the black beans side dish is phenomenal. We tried a sampling of every type of taco possible (except the creamy kale, which cannot be made vegan). They were all excellent, but my favorites were the beet tacos and the mushroom ones. When we asked for everything vegan, the sales clerk made it really easy. She said that they substitute a non-dairy sauce, but we didn't ask exactly what they did or what they used. Whatever it was, it was excellent :-)

Fresh veggie tacos in Georgetown - Edit
Went to Chaia for dinner on 4/9 based on a recommendation from the daughter of the guy sitting next to me on the plane out to DC. She was right - good vegan and vegetarian food made with very fresh ingredients. I had the 'creamy' kale + potato, the mushroom, and the butternut squash taco combo. All were very tasty (about $10), as was the side of black beans. The spring greens taco was also very good.
Read morePros: Fresh, mostly vegan choices, Quite willing to modify for vegans, Pleasant, cozy atmosphere
Cons: Not many tables, even counting upstairs, Gets busy by 5:30pm
