Regret coming here

I was here just over a year ago and remembered that the staff then was quite inattentive. But I decided to give it a go anyway, especially since this was one of the very few restaurants that were open at 7 am. But how I regret it. When I arrived no one even acknowledged me, among the 3 people in the room. Eventually a man who I'm guessing is one of the owners came and asked me to sit down. The girl who took my order must have been depressed or something, because she barely moved her mouth when she spoke, let alone give me a greeting smile. On the other hand everyone in there acted the same, so maybe they are all depressed. Could be from working there. The muesli bowl was a huge disappointment and looked like a child had prepared it. And when I was at the register about to pay the female owner (?), she started talking on the phone when I was mid sentence talking to her about wanting a cake to take away. Completely interrupted me without an "excuse me" or anything. Wow. I'm almost annoyed the cake was so good, because i wouldn't recommend anyone coming here. At least not for food. If you have to get something, get the chocolate caramel bar. I guess it was pretty tasty.

Pros: Tasty vegan cake

Cons: Every single staff member = rude, Terrible muesli breakfast

great place, not-so-great owner

Food was okay. Garden set-up, attached shop, and relatively quiet atmosphere were all beautiful - could sit here for hours with a book or laptop etc. however unfortunately I have to echo some other reviewers and say I wasn't impressed by the owner; not a very nice lady at all (which might also be the reason why her staff seem unfriendly/disinterested?). Do look up tripadvisor/Google reviews for more unpleasant experiences - wish I had seen them earlier.

Great Vegan Treats

I don't know anywhere else in Chiang Mai that has a sweets and cake selection quite like they do here. They have raw cheesecakes, vegan cakes, vegan baked goods, a fantastic selection. It's a shame that they also include dairy items though as well as meat offered in the menu, although this restaurant is known for being a vegetarian place, it's not actually the case.
Some of the savoury dishes are very good especially the salads of which they have an interesting variety and they are good portions.
If you go in the evening they are very busy and the atmosphere can be quite hectic and rushed. The service is extremely fast, too fast in my opinion as they want to serve as many customers as they can. It can feel way too hurried.
The service could also be a bit friendlier.
However, for vegan cakes there is nowhere else around quite like it.

Updated from previous review on 2008-06-10

Pros: Vegan cakes!!, Large menu, Thai and Western options

Cons: Serves meat and dairy, Too rushed

Fine food, but the shop was the best part

Are here for lunch. Had a curry and pad Thai. Food was good but nothing exceptional.
What WAS the best part though, was the shop that was part of the restaurant. Vegan cookies, cakes, muffins, croissants- ALLLL THE DELISH VEGAN BAKED GOODS! Also had teas, fruit, powders, skincare products etc.
Would be worth a trip just for the shop attached to the restaurant. Prices were also really good.

Nothing to write home about.

Not a vegan restaurant but has lots of options. Ordered tom kha and massaman, both of which tasted nothing like tom kha or massaman. Also ordered a side dish of spinach and garlic which came in a massive puddle of salty water and oil.
Tried the bakery - had the chocolate croissant and a cinnamon and peanut butter roll. Really disappointed by these too but to be fair I don't usually eat these sorts of things as I can't often find vegan options - there were loads here.
The kombucha was very weak and flat (I like it with a little natural fizz).
Meal size was good, just wish it had tasted nice.
Staff's mood seemed a bit off - not particularly unfriendly or rude but maybe a little disinterested.
Was our last meal in Chiang Mai and we're pretty disappointed overall with it.

Don't Miss This Place

Wow, we went here recently while a friend was visiting and it was amazing. On the surface, yes it is more expensive than a lot of places, however the size and quality is well worth it. Could easily sit there eating all day long.

Pros: Delicious, Lot Of Options

Cons: Price

Love love love this place!

I have been here more times than I can count! So many vegan options in the bakery and on their menu. The apple crumble pie is a clear winner, along with banana pancake (massive), multigrain vegan croissants and their huge range of muffins. The fresh juices are tiny and there are cheaper places to buy juice but the bakery items can't be beaten. Would give five stars if I could.

Pros: Vegan bakery foods, Lovely garden setting

Cons: Juices small

Vegan options in Chiang Mai

Joined some friends there during June, 2015.

They had fresh juices, lots of vegan goodies with take-away options, and other vegan stuff as toothpaste, soaps etc

I enjoyed my time there, the patio's nice, but the waitress was a bit rude to customers.

Only tried a fresh smoothie, and a cinnamon roll, which were nice.
I guess you can find better places to go and enjoy in Chiang Mai!!

Pros: the patio, baked goodies, gluten free options

Cons: quite expensive for chiang mai, unfriendly owner (sometimes), the fishes in a LITTLE pond

quality restaurant with delicious food

Blue Diamond offers delicious vegan/vegetarian food! There are meat options on the menu and for this reason it can't be given 5 stars. It's my first trip to Chiang Mai and I keep coming back here because it's so good. It's not your 40 THB kind of place, and there ARE fantastic 40 THB eateries. Just had vegan chocolate cake (85THB) and a coffee with soy milk - yum! Other days I've had greek salad with tofu cubes instead of feta which cost 120 THB. A first and it worked! My friend had the Vietnamese Herbs vegetable salad, big portion and delicious! Green environment, with lots of plants. Also sells vegan products such as toothpaste and insect repellent. If you feel like a vegan sweet treat I'd definitely recommend Blue Diamond.

Pros: - consistently tasty food, - calm atmosphere with lots of plants, - delicious vegan cakes

Cons: fishpond

This place is good if you miss some western cakes . They are good but really poor quality , full of sugar and not so healthy . The worst thing of this place is the owner , a lady really unfriendly and rude .

Pros: Western cakes

Cons: Unfriendly , Not vegan or vegetarian place

lots of vegan options including baked goods

I called into Blue Diamond for dinner with a Thai friend ... I had a vegan massaman noodle curry with rice and my friend had fried mixed vegetables with rice (฿210 with a bottle of water) ... the quality and quanity of the food was good but it was not spicey (ask if you like spicey food) ... there is a lot of vegan baked goods on sale including bread rolls, croissants, baguettes, cupcakes and brownies ... staff were friendly and attentive ... you do not get a bill as you need to go to the counter to pay (not a very transparent business practice as you are not able to check menu pricing against the quoted cost of the meal)

Pros: lots of vegan baked goods

Review of the bakery

THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE BAKERY!

This bakery is AWESOME!
As a vegan, this place is sooo good! The bakery is not all vegan, but mostly. Only place I Asia where I got a real croissant! Cinnamon rolls are the right amount of greasy. The muffins are great, and the cakes and pies are amazing! i highly recommend the peanut butter pie and the vegan brownie. This place is great but ruined my budget (because i went there almost every day for 5 weeks :P)

Cons: A bit over priced., not fully vegan

A nice hang out with not too high standards

Been there every now and then over the years. The garden and the crowd hanging out is really relaxed, really nice. Food is borderline "healthy & tasty", but no love basically. Nothing is really good. But hey, it's a cool place to be! Guess that I one day will find myself having a semi delicious avocado salat in there again ...

not even worth it

Very cool atmosphere, lots of people, and shelves of fresh baked goods and natural health products had us excited for our breakfast here. It was boring, the baked beans were so bad even a spend thrift such as myself couldn't bare to finish them despite the fact I'd payed extra for them.
We bought a loaf of rye sourdough for 280 baht, again, terribly disappointing. Dense and chewy in all the WRONG ways and the flavor was beyond SOUR.
The woman who rung us up was not especially rude but showed an ineptitude for any kind of customer service or acknowledgment that she was speaking to another human.
The best thing we got was a pumice stone... to scrub our feet.

Very unfriendly staff

We came here many times for the kombucha which wasn't even that good. The owner and waitresses were rude and not welcoming every time we visited there and the place smells old. Even though the garden is very nice. They have so many vegan options! Actually our non-vegan parents ate lunch and desserts there and they liked it very much. I personally would not go there again because we saw how badly they treated other customers too.

Pros: Lots of vegan options

Cons: Rude staff, Weird smell

Great surprise!

We didn't expect much from Blue Diamond, but it turned out to be a great place to eat for vegans. They have vegan, gluten-free muffins, organic salads and hill tribe coffee :) Also, there is a store with fresh fruit, teas and spices. Would go back, but there are better vegan organic options in the city (more thai atmosphere)

Pros: GF vegan muffins :)

Cons: Not 100% vegan/vegetarian, But international oriented

Okay, but there's better

The food is good, but not special (for vegans anyway) - Blue Diamond is mostly a favourite along meateaters that love their breakfast (omelette etc.). Definitely get their cinnamon roll if you're into sweets though. Depending on how much time you have in Chiang Mai go eat somewhere else. Nice atmosphere in the garden, however I hate the fish they have swimming there in a little pond.

Cons: expensive for what you get

great for desserts

As a vegan this place is great for desserts, everything is very clearly labelled which is great and there is a lot to choose from. Most of the desserts are lovely however a few can be quite dry.. For meals however Blue Diamond isn't anything special and is very pricey.. I visited here 5 times whilst in Chiang Mai and had rude customer service every time!

Awesome selection of vegan baked goods!

I only came for the baked goods and a vegan cappuccino, so I can't comment on the food, but the muffins, cinnamon roll, and croissants were fantastic!
Nice patio as well.

only go if you want vegan pastry

They have decent vegan pastry and cakes. Espresso was alright but nothing to write home about.
What I didn't like was that they have fish in their garden. Having animals in captivity doesn't make this a vegan friendly place imho. Only come here if you crave vegan pastries during your travels.

Pros: vegan pastries , nice atmosphere in general

Cons: Fish in captivity in a cafe with vegan options??, coffee bit pricey and only average

How are you more offended about them having a fish pond than actually serving meat in their cafe? Seems like an overreaction.

great vegan pastry selection!!!

vegan croissant, cinnamon roll, choco brownies, coconuts cream pie, muffins, cookies, cakes, raw sweet.
Whatever you can imagine, they have it in vegan way.
Lots of gluten free selection as well!
I was looking forward to try vegan 12B donuts but they said they don't make it everyday and especially this season in May : (
Oh and do not try their soy yogurt! it tastes old and sour and not good at all.
Try their vegan tomato pasta! Very generous in volume : )
I wish they had a vegan ice cream!

great variety and delicious food!

Took me about ten minutes to decided what to eat due to the wide variety. Everything on the menu has a vegan alternative and tastes delicious! Also there is a lot of non breakfast food, and a lot of western and Thai choices. Kept on coming back here at least once a day!
Also have a great health store with a bunch of natural products.

If you're craving that Western Food.....

Blue Diamond calls itself "The Breakfast Club" and you can indeed get a lot of Western Breakfast choices which is great if you're craving muesli or a pancake (the vegan version costs the same) for once. They also have breadrolls (which they bake themselves) with hummus/ baba ganoush and antipasti.

We also tried two of the soups which were quite nice and not too expensive (around 50 Baht)

One thing that makes me keep coming back are the sweets. Unless you buy the 4 Pack Oatmeal Cookies which are like 80 Baht you can actually get vegan treats very cheap. Tried a cinnamon roll for 35 Baht, not even 1€!!

In Europe everything that is marked as vegan is prone to be overpriced even though the ingredients are often cheaper than the ones of a non vegan treat. But at Blue Diamond almost all of the bakery goods that are vegan (it's clearly marked) are delicious and cheap!

All in all if you're having a strong craving for Western Breakfast choices this is the place to go.

My bf was not that impressed, he said the soup he ordered the first time was a bit to salty and so was his (non-vegan) pancake. Also the honey had three dead ants swimming in it but what can I say.. I didn't encounter anything like that.

Pros: Good Taste, Portion sizes normal and filling, Great choices of Western Food

Cons: Pricy
