Good feed, good value

It was 3 years ago, but we ate there 2 or 3 times. Buffet style. Not expensive. Good burgers, soups and desserts

BEST Lunch Place

I absolutely ADORE Vega City. I come here nearly every weekday for lunch, even when there's a long line (which tells you just how popular this place is). I ordinarily opt for a main entree and then a piece or two of seitan/wheat burger, which comes out at around $4-5. What a bargain! It's easy to get a little overwhelmed at the choices and set-up, but don't hesitate to ask the staff any questions. They are all friendly and speak great English.

Thank you Vega City!

Pros: Options, Price, Friendly Staff

Cons: Sometimes long line

A bit deceived

You have to know what to choose as not everything is good, so it's not ideal for tourists. The food is not so good and there's a kilogram price for every different item, so it's a bit confused and slow.

But you have to go there to see the amazing numbers of vegan clients all over the day !

Cheap lunch but confusing system

There are soooo many different items to choose from and different methods of combining them - really confusing.

I went for the daily menu thinking this would be the most straightforward thing but was still given a bunch of different options. They served up a grain base (choice of 2 types) a stew (choice of 2 types), plain salad, steamed veggies and a patty (choice of 2 types). So I ended up with buckwheat, split pea soup, veggies, salad and a wheat burger patty thing all piled on one plate, which was a strange combo. On the plus side it was a really big, filling plate of food for only 1200ft - bargain!!

They also have lots of other random items in the counter like sushi, burgers, pasta, cakes... However my boyfriend had a croissant and a burger which he didn’t enjoy at all. In particular the burger which was cold (I don’t think they reheat anything as it’s all pre-made), and all really dense and dry. I think my patty was the same as on his burger, but when cut up and mixed with all the other bits on the plate it was okay.

Also don’t forget the condiments just after you pay, to the left! I accidentally missed this section - a splash of oil, vinegar or chilli flakes would’ve definitely amped up my meal.

I would give this place another try, now that I have a bit more of an idea how it works. My boyfriend however was really put off and said he would never go back - I think that’s his fault for choosing the wrong dish haha (stubborn burger lover). I do wish the ordering system was more straightforward, with a smaller menu.

Pros: incredibly cheap for the city centre, big portions, lots of seating over 2 floors

Cons: overwhelming amount of options, varying quality of dishes

Good concept but not too well executed

This restaurant is a good concept! There's a queue out of the door at lunch time but it moves fairly quickly and if done well it could be worth the wait.

There's a daily menu with a changing soup/stew/main dish/indian dish/pasta dish/side dish/GF side dish. There's a fixed price for the daily menu of 1200 HUF (£3.30-3.50) which is a great price. This menu is displayed outside so you can see whilst you're in the big queue.

However, upon getting to the front of the queue you are suddenly presented with other tasty items - there's a separate salad bar and a choice of burgers on one side, on the other side the daily dishes are displayed but also other items such as breaded cashew cheese, fried eggplant, battered tofu. You almost couldn't see these until it felt too late and some were paid for by weight, some by the item. Some of the menu was on a large chalkboard behind as well, which was quite useful!

I ended up getting the gyros bowl (1200 HUF) which was a very generous portion of the seitan gyros, salad, pitta, tahini sauce and choice of a side dish (millet, roast potatoes, or cous cous). The seitan was heavily seasoned, and it was unfortunately far too salty, my sister and I both thought the same. I can't bear wasting food so I ate it all and drank a lot of water! The rest was delicious, and perhaps I just got the bottom of the batch (it all sits in metal dishes canteen-style, so it's possible it over-marinated in that time). The bio-coffee was delicious, 550 HUF (£1.50-1.60) which I thought a very reasonable price! Bit confusing that you had to order it with the food, but the lady on the till kindly let us order when paying.

There was a large selection of vegan cakes that looked really good, we were too full to try them though!

I think if there were some clearer instructions, or perhaps if it was explained to you at the start when ordering it would work better. I didn't understand the salad bar bit and didn't fully understand the canteen bit, and as it was lunchtime it was a bit busy and it felt like they assumed we knew what we were doing. If we had more time I would have visited again to give it another go, would still recommend trying it out!

Pros: Cheap and tasty coffee, Lots of seating despite being busy, Potential to be a good restaurant

Cons: Confusing ordering system, Overly seasoned seitan :(

AMAZING!!! When I lived in Budapest and I would eat there 3 days a week at least

I really like this place because of its location, they have a really varied menu every week and I love that they always have a Hungarian dish, which is obviously vegan and that’s exceptional because Hungarian cuisine is quite meat-based.

Pros: Cheap, but amazing , Great variety , Friendly staff

Cons: Sometimes busy during lunchtime -> queue

Wonderful

We had a wonderful inexpensive meal here on our four day trip to Budapest.

Please, please open a restaurant in London. The nearest thing to what you do is the wonderful Ethos but at nearly three times the price.

Pros: Fab food, Inexpensive

Cons: Long queues at lunchtime

Busy, but tasty

On our way to the Central Market Hall, we couldn’t help but notice the lunchtime line that ran right out the door and onto the footpath. Their weekly menu changes every week, but always has soups, stews, Indian food, pasta and side dishes. You can also get smoothies, salads, cakes and sushi.

They have plenty of space to sit and eat, but we opted for takeaway sushi and were impressed with the creativity they put into it. Each box has 6 pieces for 1,100 HUF (approximately €3.40), so you get five pieces of maki with interesting fillings like chickpea mash, and a nice piece of nigiri with tofu and dehydrated carrot. The best part though, was the pink mayo that came with it! I’m pretty sure it was made using beetroot juice, it was very tasty and aesthetically pleasing.

It’s fine

Pleasant atmosphere and cheap, decent food if quite bland (had a krabby burger and salad). If something grabs you go for it but the least exciting of the places I’ve tried since being here

Pros: Lots of choice , Cheap, Friendly, helpful staff

Cons: Bland food

Great everyday spot!

This has been one of my favorite places to grab a quick meal (or cake!) since coming to Budapest a few weeks ago. They have a different menu every day of the week, with several soups and entrees. I’m able to get a full meal for under $5, with a main dish and a few side dishes or dessert. The variety of vegan cakes is amazing! I wouldn’t come here just for the cake, since I’ve found them to he a little dry (might just be the time of day I visit?), but definitely worth trying if you’re at Vega City anyway. Totally recommend coming, super friendly staff.

Pros: All vegan, Inexpensive, Home cooked meals

Quick, bright and tasty

I enjoyed my meal of a saslik (battered tofu and olives on a skewer) a rice patty and a ratatouille-like dish. Staff were friendly and helpful and the venue was spacious and bright. There were quite a lot of options and since it’s all bain-marie, it’s very quick. I didn’t try any desserts but they looked delicious... I might have to come back!

Okay place to eat

Not really on the top of cullinary arts, this is more like a canteen where one can get ones belly full, rather than enjoy new tastes and ideas.
The food was okay. I found that the staff didn't really explain the options one has, and I felt that the price of the food was unpredictable. I find the pricing slightly chaotic - something measured by weight, something by piece.
It is a good spot, but not one I prefer.

A good range of vegan eats available in the centre

I went here twice. It was easy and convenient due to its location and the food is already made. Lots of cakes and juices to choose from and really nice staff. The food can be pretty heavy (lots of battered/crumbed and carb-loaded items) although I found this is quite common for the local cuisine anyway.

Pros: Convenient, Variety

So many choices

Vega City has lots of unique options and everything we tried was delicious. Wish I could try all the different foods. It is very cheap for the amount of food that you get.
This was my first time in a buffet, so I didn't fully understand how they combine the dishes, so it's a good thing that the staff spoke English.
I saw a lot of people getting food to go in their own containers, so it's great if you are low waste.

Pros: Everything is vegan, Affordable, Tasty

Cons: Crowded

Good option for an early, quick meal!

Just returned from Budapest this week. While visiting, I quickly noticed that restaurants (or at least vegan restaurants) have very limited hours.... most places seem to only be open between 11am - 7pm, possibly 8pm.... making dining out a bit difficult for a New Yorker like myself that's used to eating meals whenever. Vega City happens to be one of the few vegan restaurants in the city opened prior to 11am, making it a great option for breakfast! Though, they don't have many traditional breakfast items, they do make delicious croissant veggie sandwiches that are a great early day options. Other buffet options include traditional Hungarian dishes, veggies, soups, smoothies, and cakes... tons of delicious cakes! Various coffee options also available. Extremely affordable prices, too! Overall, great place to get a filling meal. Just wish they were opened later in the evening and on weekends.

Delicous pastries and tasteful Hungarian food

We have visited this restaurant four days a row with a large group of 40 people. Each day, they served a different meal to us. We got typical Hungarian food such as goulash. A wonderful experience, as the Hungarian kitchen is mainly meat-based.

Vega City also has a huge assortment of pastries - difficult to choose! Tip: the less healthy it looks, the more delicious it is😉

The staff was very hospitable. Would definitely visit this place again!

Pros: Huge assortment of pastries, Delicious Hungarian food, Hospitable staff

Hungarian style vegan options and healthy choices

I wish we could have eaten at Vega City more, as there seemed to be a great many options, and I would have loved to have tried many of their Hungarian style options.

The day we visited, I had the Indian curry - a pea and tofu dish, and also a breaded cashew cheese side, just to try it. Both were very good, and made for a filling breakfast. The coffee was really good too.

Prices seemed really good and portions were large - we had 1/2 portions, which were definitely enough.

Pros: Healthy options, Hungarian style dishes, Plenty of space.
