Such a pleasant surprise!

There were several vegan options in the deli and on the hot bar. We had breakfast from the hot bar even though we weren’t expecting to be tempted. The biscuits were amazing! We had chorizo burritos and a beet hash. Both were delicious! The burrito was yummy but a little spicy…as chorizo should be. Really nice staff and setting.

Pros: Delicious variety of vegan food, Friendly staff, Cute co-op

Cons: Not all vegan

Great pit stop while traveling

They had several vegan options, a couple premade wraps and an awesome tofu sandwich at the hot bar. They had a small salad bar. Also a couple fresh vegan baked goods. This was a perfect place to stop while traveling on the road from NC to Nashville. We were totally satisfied with the quick bites options, how fresh everything was, and many vegan packaged food brands here as well. Glad we stopped!

Love this little market!

So glad we found this little market on our way to the Smokies! So many grab and go options, snacks, fresh fruit and veg, as well as refrigerated and freezer vegan options! The popcorn tofu wrap was delicious and the perfect hiking lunch! The desserts are yummy as well. They have a hot bar, which changes daily but features vegan options! Highly recommend stopping. Easy to get to right off the highway!

Pros: Yummy vegan grab and go, Friendly staff, Lots of vegan foods!

Good grab n go spot

I happened to be in that area of town during my lunch break and decided to stop by to see if I could grab anything. I got the pimento blt with smoky tempeh, and it was a solid and fulfilling meal.

Grab and Go

We stopped here while driving through Knoxville on a recent road trip. Picked up a few of the salads/prepared foods for a quick easy dinner. We got the batter Fried Tofu, Peanut Tofu Salad, Sesame Tempeh Salad, Buffalo Cauliflower, and some cold Sesame Noodles. Everything was excellent especially the Peanut Tofu (that was the star of the meal). Everything was fresh, clearly labeled, and reasonably priced. We will absolutely stop by here again when we are in the area.

Pros: Good Selection, Excellent food

Perfect pit stop!

Swung by here on our way from Atlanta to Sevierville around 6:45 on a Friday. We knew we’d be cutting it close to closing but were hoping we’d still be able to take advantage of the hot bar for dinner and grab a few snacks. Happy to report we were!

They still had a good selection of hot and prepared foods. I got the vegan spinach artichoke wrap and I got the chicken Cuban sandwich for my fiancé who isn’t vegan. We both loved our food! (I don’t even fully know what was in my vegan wrap but it was so dang tasty.)

I also was able to grab a ton of things for our long weekend - BBQ tofu, Buffalo cauliflower, vegan morning glory muffin, blueberry muffin, vegan brookie (brownie/cookie, it was 💣), banana pudding, and a kale salad. Also grabbed a variety of grocery things. Definitely would recommend swinging by here when you’re near! Not only a great selection but the building itself is beautiful. :)

Great Co-op to give back!

Excellent selection on vegan products and freshly prepared small meals and especially friendly environment! Their popcorn tofu and vegan tuna sandwich are to die for. Especially love that it's a co-op and benefits the community instead of my bucks being shipped off to a CEO's 7th home. A little on the expensive side but this is to be expected! I can't get here enough!!!

Pros: Awesome, diverse staff, Great selection

Cons: Expensive

Great find in Knoxville!

Not being local, this was the ideal place to stock our kitchen as we visited Knoxville for a few days. So glad to have found it!

Great place...but!

The truth is, I love the store, I have been a member here for over two years now, I’ve paid the yearly $25 fee for a couple years now, and lately I just feel like this place is more about taking from the community instead of giving like a co-op is supposed to. I am so disappointed in my last trip here, I can buy organic celery anywhere including whole foods for less than two dollars, and they tried charging me over three dollars for one bundle of celery! Not to mention the many times I have been double charged for something here and had to go and get it fixed, I’m starting to see that maybe this place has a little bit of a scam going, it’s so unfortunate because they do you have a wonderful selection of so many things, they have a great vegetarian and vegan selection, and for the most part their fruits and vegetables are top-notch quality, and their bulk is amazing, but I am thoroughly upset that they feel like they need to take every cent that they can from people, just like they sell these essential oil diffusing necklaces For over $20, I went on Amazon and found the exact same necklace, same company and I could get two necklaces and a pack of the little diffuser pads for $14, like I said inflation is a huge problem here.

Pros: Wonderful selection, Wonderful quality fruits and veggies, Everything you would need basically

Cons: Inflated prices, Feel robbed at times

Hi Brittany,

Thank you for your kind words about our great vegetarian and vegan selection, organic produce, and extensive bulk selection. We want everyone to have a positive and enjoyable experience in our store each and every time they visit.

Started in 1981, Three Rivers Market is Tennessee’s pioneering food co-op. We are a local, not-for-profit business owned by over 9,000 Tennesseans that exists to create and nourish a healthier environment, healthier people, and a healthier community. If you are paying $25 per year, you are on the 10 Year Payment Plan towards full co-ownership in the cooperative. Unlike a yearly fee or dues, your payments are purchases of equity in the business and come with the rights, responsibilities, and benefits of ownership. Thank you for embarking on this journey with us! If you are unhappy with your decision, we can repurchase your equity. Just ask for a Repurchase Application at the Customer Service Desk.

Our produce department sells only organically-grown produce. Our organic celery is priced at $1.69/lb. Based on the average weight per bunch (or bundle), that is around $2.11/bunch. Because bunches of celery can vary in size, a per-bunch price is often unfair so we price celery by the pound instead. In addition to providing a fair price, per pound pricing can also reduce food waste – allowing customers to select a small bunch or even a few stalks if that is all they need.

Whole Foods sells both organic and conventional celery. We checked prices this week and found their current price on organic celery is $2.99/bunch or around $2.39/pound based on the average weight per bunch. Only their conventional celery was under $2.00/bunch.

We offer the Matrix Aromatherapy AromaLocket. We haven’t found this exact same product offered on Amazon.

Marin Wooley, our Member & Customer Services Manager, will be contacting you later this week to address the issue you raise of being “double charged”. I am aware of only one instance when our cashier accidentally scanned an item twice, and our records show a correction was made immediately afterwards.

Feel free to contact me at j.arthur@threeriversmarket.coop if you would like to discuss any of these concerns in more depth.

This store is fantastic!

I was especially impressed with their large selection of vegan pastries and grab n go items. I noted vegan cookies, muffins, banana bread, cookie bars, salads, cooked veggies, mock tuna sandwiches, soup, tofurkey sandwiches, wraps, etc. We tried a double chocolate cookie, a cookie bar and the banana bread. All delicious! I mostly stopped in just to check it out since we were in the area. I didn’t really need anything specific so I just browsed and checked the prices. When it comes to their vegan selection of snacks and frozen food, I would say that Earth Fare and Whole Foods have a better selection but higher prices. Their produce looked fresh and the prices were comparable to other stores. I saw that they post their daily hot food menu on Facebook so I will definitely keep an eye on that and come back for lunch

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Best vegan chicken ever (tofu popcorn) , Vegan breakfast

Cons: None

Good health food & produce & salad bar

Three Rivers Co-op is a local Knoxville, Tennessee business, and each member is a shareholder. Good selection of local and regional fresh vegetables and fruits. Lots of bulk food, grains, nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and spices bins. Salad bar is always fresh. The hot food bar is small, but has a few vegetarian and vegan choices. Good selection of breads, & take out foods in containers in the refrigerated section. Lots of herbal supplements, essential oils, body crèmes & lotions. It's a well-stocked store. It's a nice place to shop. The staff is always friendly and helpful. A few cashiers remember me by name. That is nice. You don't get that in the corporate big box grocery stores. This co-op is also located in an under-served grocery store area of the city, so it offers a place for people to walk or bike to, when they need groceries.

Pros: Salad bar is always fresh., Cashiers are friendly & very helpful., Variety of take out foods in refigerated section.

Cons: Limited hot bar selection due to space., Sometimes, items are out of stock during sales., Need more vegan & vegetarian foods on hot bar.

The vegan breakfast burrito is the bomb. They also carry a lot of vegan items I like- hail merry products for instance- when I want to splurge. The vegan pumpkin muffin is great too!

Well-stocked store

Saw this on happycow and came to shop & get some food here while in town. Here's my Three Rivers Market review.

We were able to find plenty of vegan options in the prepared foods sections. Also bought some of our basic vegan essentials: cereal, plant milk, fresh fruit, and misc. eco household stuff.

Pros: great little store, vegan essentials

decently small

I was concerned about the Market after reading Simcha's review. But I found the Market is similar to other co-op on the east coast. Maybe they read Simcha's comments because they did have some vegan toppings for salad bar (tofu, dolmas) and in hot bar (Quinoa spinach and something else), even desserts ( chocolate rice bars). They didn't have everything I was looking for but at least I had my salad and dolma.

Pros: air pumps for bicycles , bulks (can bring own containers unlike Whole Foods, tables/seating outside

Cons: no paper recycling for salad bar container

Another One Bites the Dust

So vegan-unfriendly it's not even funny. I used to live in the area and have seen this excuse of a co-op dwindle from no meat (except pet food) to carnist heaven. Like so many others on the locavore bandwagon, they seem unable to understand that it is not how an animal is raised, but that she is raised to become food, and subsequently slaughtered - you know, like, literally - that is the problem. The "eco-friendly" greencar parking spaces are especially irritating, as electric cars are much more elitist than veganism, and reflect the wilful ignorance of people to see CO2 emissions from passenger cars (rather than meat transport trucks) rather than meat and dairy production and the emissions of methane as the bigger issue. Anyway, I came back to Knoxville for my wife to run the marathon here, and we are very very disappointed in this place. Everything about it screams kill more animals, from magazines (you can learn about paleo diet, subscribe to milk magazines, and get excited about animal farming, but I did not see one vegan-related magazine [I did only peruse 2 of the 3 racks, though]) to the baked goods, the deli counter and salad bar.) And though I am not a huge fan of either Earth Fare or Whole Foods, at least I can find some vegan food there, not much, but more than at this place. The prices are also no less expensive than the other two chains. My personal past experience with the management and board (at the old location on Broadway), and the things I see here now, prove that commenting and complaining is a waste of breath and time. This is yet another haven for meat-eating, dairy-guzzling environmental hipsters who think killing animals is a spiritual practice. It is not for vegans.

Good deli & Great quick shop for food&other needs

Great for the traveler. Small local co-op off the downtown area. Well stocked deli w/ fresh hummous, salads, pasta, dumplings, sandwiches, drinks, snacks. The rest of the co-op carries local & organic items for the hiker/traveler, i.e. nuts, fruits, veggies and other personal necessities.

Pros: quick shop deli, hot buffet, local, organic, great staff good pricing

Cons: carries meat

Good Co-Op

The new building is very large and attractive, much better than the old location. I enjoy the produce section, local breads, lots of bulk foods, and the deli and hot bar. Vegans and vegetarians should be aware that they sell a LOT of meat and dairy products (unlike their original location). Some of us believe that this does not promote a healthy local community.

Pros: bulk foods, good selection, friendly

Cons: meat & dairy

Great store!

We stop here to stock up on food before heading to Gatlinburg (love those mountain cabins, hate that there are almost no food options!) Their hot bar is so good, and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I love that they stock the vegan pesto from Tomato Head! That stuff is out of this world delicious! If we lived in town, we would frequent Three Rivers for sure!

Pros: hot bar, nice staff, reasonably priced

Cons: stocks meat

Healthy Fast Food!

The premade food is outstanding - you have to try the eggless egg salad spread! Grab some whole wheat chips & a drink & you've got a healthy vegan snack or lunch!
The employees are very helpful & courteous, they can answer all your questions & will even order something special if they don't have it in stock or normally don't carry it.

Pros: Vegan, Natrual, Friendly

Cons: parking, small, not a great location
