Excellent cafe

I visited for breakfast and then lunch, after a week walking the West Highland Way.

I chatted with the owner over breakfast. She'd clearly reflected deeply on the purpose of the cafe and what she wanted it to achieve. I'm a new vegan, and she gave me some tips and a recipe recommendation.

The food was excellent. Lovely porridge and beans on toast to start my day (I had a big appetite after my walk). The kidney bean curry at lunchtime (a special) was delicious, hearty and filling, with a varied and enjoyable side salad.

I took 4 cakes away with me and enjoyed each of them. The chocolate fudge cake was probably the highlight.

Fantastic!

An all vegan cafe focussing on sustainability also.
We specifically went out of our way to come here to ensure we supported the only known vegan restaurant in this area, we were not disappointed!
We ordered the stew of the day and my husband had the beans on toast. Both were REALLY good and large portions.
Service was great and the food and drinks were fantastic!

Pros: Everything is vegan , Focused on sustainability as well, Great service

Cons: Small amount of seating

Great vegan food. My wife loved the beetroot latte 👍non avacado was lovely too.
Little book store, and bulk food deli to browse as well.

Die Kuchen sind spitze

Wir hatten die Spezialitäten des Tages. Eine köstliche Karotten-Ingwer-Suppe und ein leider nicht ganz so köstliches Süßkartoffelbulgur. Dafür hätten wir uns am liebsten einmal quer durch die Kuchentheke gefuttert. War alles super lecker.

Pros: Leckerer Kuchen, Freundliches Personal, Alles vegan

absolute gem - if only every town had a place like this

Superb coffee (and I'm very fussy), delicious avoca-no toast (yes, you read that right), friendly staff who are paid a living wage - this place is brilliant.

Pros: really REALLY good coffee, very tasty food, both savoury and sweet

Best cake during Scotland trip

Having visited about a dozen vegan places during my last Scotland trip, the chocolate fudge cake and the concept of this place keep coming back to my mind. The cake was exceptionally soft and chocolaty! Besides serving vegan food, a lot of thoughts seem to have been put into making this place as sustainable and as accessible as possible.

Pros: Tasty food, Friendly staff, Cozy atmosphere

Absolutely superb

Fantastic coffee, wonderful vegan food (including cake!) and a brilliant ethos. You can buy loose goods at the back of the cafe like nuts, oil and laundry detergent. We were visiting he highlands just before Christmas and thought we’d struck gold with this place. We were in there nearly every day even though we were staying on the other side of the loch :)

Pros: This is vegan narnia.

Cons: Absolutely none.

Scrumptious

Late decision to go to one of The WildCats evening opening for dining.
So so happy we did,. The food was incredible and very large helpings. Different food from their daytime cafe and the candles and fairy lights added to a lovely setting.
All the choices on the menu sounded fab and we were more than delighted at our choice.
Having been fortunate enough to have been to many Vegan cafes and restaurants in Europe, The WilCat surpassed most and equalled the best.
Thank you all for a lovely evening, thank your chef for all their hard work and we will definitely come back if you have more evening openings.👍😊

Eco-friendly and cosy

Love the zero waste concept. Lovely made coffee (latte) and hot chocolate was the best I’ve ever had. Hummus toast was very filling and had a banana bread. This establishment really sticks to their values - we noticed when a customer brought a carton of dairy milk in store, the staff advised them to put it away.

Pros: Great coffee, Great hot chocolate, Awesome sourdough bread

Cons: Not many breakfast options

It’s a gem in a middle of “desert”

Friendly staff, gorgeous cakes, lovely atmosphere, great food - it’s a gem, an absolute treat! We bought one of every cake and the ones that we tried so far were scrumptious! 😁👌🏻

Yum.

What a treat to have this place available for all your highland wild explorations. I took some food to go after for my trip into nature. It was cozy, delicious and worthwhile. Also very conscious space with lots of information available for its guests.

Absolutely awesome

We really enjoyed it there.
Full vegan Café with good food and yummy cakes. Had the best hot chocolate I've ever had there!
Prices are okay. 9 pounds for a lunch meal, 3 pounds for a hot chocolate.

Has got a"wireless wednesday" - no wifi, talk to each other 😉👌

Pros: Only vegan options, mostly plastic free , sells books, magazines and reusable cups

Vegano muy bueno a buen precio

Estamos de vacaciones por Escocia (somos de Canarias) y a veces es un poco difícil encontrar opciones vegetarianas/veganas, pero gracias a Happy Cow es bastante más sencillo.
De esta forma encontramos esta maravilla de restaurante. El personal es muy amable, la comida está riquísima y está muy bien de precio. Recomendadísimo!!

We are from Canary Islands (Spain) and, during our trip through Scotland, we found this amazing restaurant thanks to Happy Cow. Very nice staff, very good prices and delicious food. Highly recommended!!

Great food and organic shop ..

Lots of options for everybody. No gluten free bread but everything else was perfect.. Friendly, fast and fantastic food. Quite snug and nice atmosphere.

Amazing!

So glad we visited The Wildcat while passing through Fort William. There was a good range of savoury and sweet foods and everything is vegan.

The staff were really friendly and the food was tasty! We tried the lemon cake, the seitan panini the soup and a wrap type thing and enjoyed all of it!.

Pros: All vegan, tasty food, great staff

Cons: No parking

Superb vegan cafe!

We visited here for lunch as a family of four and were so happy that we did! We had the lentil shepherds pie and is was absolutely delicious. We all shared cakes afterwards which were very tasty indeed. The service was very fast, just a few minutes wait for our food, despite the place being absolutely packed (we had to wait a couple of minutes for a table to be free.) I really love that they sell a whole range of ethical vegan goods from food to toiletries too, and offer a service whereby you can bring in your own tin to fill up on pasta, rice, pulses, spices etc. We all left feeling that this was a cafe that was not only vegan, but genuinely cares for the environment as well. We’ll definitely be back!

Pros: Lots of diverse and healthy dishes, Lots of different cakes!, Sells excellent variety of vegan goods

Cons: Could do with being on a larger premises!

I was expecting better

Slow service. I Had to ask for what I ordered. I couldn't sit by a table. Food was very good even though rice was boiled without salt and for too much time ..good for grandpas not for who still have his teeth.
No alcohol at all. I don't recommend this place because I was unsatisfied though, I repeat food was very good (except rise). [edit by staff - see tos]

Cons: expensive, no alcohol (could look for certified vegan wine), seats & service

Really delicous!

A wonderful array of flavours available, more than just the standard houmous and falafel that's so common in vegan food. Delicous baked goods, yummy wraps and sandwiches and specials on the board. Definitely recommend and one of the only all vegan establishments in this part of Scotland!

Second visit to The Wildcat cafe and shop.

After previous opening day visit I returned @ lunchtime during the
week had soup and sandwich which were absolutely perfect. Yet to have main meals but will add my results when I do.

Pros: All products Vegan. a good variety of both exotic , Smart, clean and thoughtful layout. Great window s, Free WiFi, Friendly and helpful staff selection of

Cons: the price is above what I normally would pay worth, busy when I've been in but served quickly, newly opened Jan 2018 so some things are still in

Hi James, thanks again for coming in and supporting us.
Glad you like what we've done. We've had a few comments about the price since we opened. For us, we didn't want to open a vegan cafe that used cheap ingredients that didn't reflect our ethical approach to business. Cheap food costs money through taxes and environmental damage further down the line. Some of our products are more expensive than other places in town, but our margins remain lower. Any extra cost goes into the quality of ingredients and paying our staff more than the minimum wage, which we thing translates into better value. I think you don't drink coffee, but for example, we use ethical direct trade speciality coffee, which is more expensive to us, then cow's milk costs 44p/litre whereas Oatly Barista costs us £1.50/liter, a cost we decided early on not to pass on to customers (I've been to so many coffee shops where I've had to pay an extra 30-60p more for the privilege of having Oatly). We hope to educate people about where our food comes from versus cheaper food outlets and why we can't sell our food for the same as other High Street businesses without reducing the quality to a level we are not prepared to pass on. For me personally, I would rather save up and spend an afternoon somewhere I loved visiting once a week than go to a large chain every day and have a mediocre coffee or food.
