My FAVORITE Restaurant. Period. - Edit
I have been going here for years,I even used to joke that there were wizards in the kitchen because the food was truly magical. Every. Single. Time. I lived in Bellingham a while back and would still make the trip down to Wayward Vegan Cafe at every opportunity I possibly could. Yes, I'm aware that it's a little over a 2 hour drive. Was the food really worth it? You're damn right it was. When they had briefly closed their doors and stopped even taking to-go orders.. I thought my heart would actually break. Something about the comforting, cruelty free food seemed to make all the troubles of the world melt away, so when I found out that they had reopened, my heart sang with joy again! So glad to see my favorite restaurant of all time still persevering through it all! Your otherworldly food has made a cult fan out of me and everyone I have had the pleasure of taking here 🥰 Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for the consistently fantastic food!

Love!! - Edit
We had breakfast here. I got the French toast with berry compote and my husband got the crunch wrap. SO good! We split a cinnamon roll too. The portions were so generous we were barely able to finish everything.

Everything is amazing - Edit
You get what you pay for, so it’s incredibly good. Vegan comfort food rules and I’m thankful Wayward does such a good job at it. Easy parking for the car oriented, easy transit access for the cool kids

Fantastic venue - Edit
Was so pleased and delighted with the Hillbilly Omelet, the staff and environment. We don’t have a purely vegan place where I live. So this was a great treat while visiting Seattle.

Worth the trip - Edit
We flew to Seattle from Portland Maine. We stopped by Wayward Vegan after months of reading the menu. Portion sizes were huge. I had the Chico Vegan Melt. It was fantastic the fried chiggen was the best I have had to date. My wife had the club. Another well done sandwich. We had the cinnamon roll for dessert and we waddled to our next flight we were so full. All the staff were fantastic. Our waiter, Devin was fantastic. He was engaging and friendly. I would 100% come back here on our next trip to Seattle.

Good Reuben, Great fries - Edit
The Reuben meat was marinated thinly sliced tofu. I liked that it wasn't overly processed and it was much tastier than j expected. The fries were outstanding.

Delicious and fresh but $$$ - Edit
I had the veggie omelette and it was delicious. The veggies were fresh and the potatoes well done like I like it. It definitely is not a $ more like a $$-$$$. Our bill for one omelette and coffee was $30.

Visiting from out of town we couldn’t wait to try this restaurant, it did not disappoint! Charming hip, is that a thing? Well it’s this place has it. The decor is eclectic, comfortable and clean. My husband enjoyed the Rueben and I had Wayward’s swoon worthy version of the BLT. The portions are generous. The service fast. The fries piping hot and crispy. The gentleman that waited on us was kind and took great care of us. If we lived here we would definitely be regulars!

Great comfort food breakfast - Edit
We went to Wayward on a Tuesday morning in June, and there were several tables of people eating dishes that looked great. We were seated quickly, and our order was taken quickly. We had a sunshine omelet with home fries and biscuits with country gravy. The sunshine omelet was outstanding! The biscuits were very good, too. The only thing we didn't love was the coffee. They only had drip coffee, and the soy milk for it was an extra charge on top of the charge for the coffee. The soy milk didn't dissolve smoothly into the coffee, unfortunately. Hopefully they get better coffee and better soy milk eventually or are able to start doing lattes. The food was so great that the coffee wasn't a big deal, though. We'll definitely be back to try more of the yummy items we saw others eating!

R.I.P. Wayward Cafe 😔 - Edit
This used to be an awesome vegan cafe in the u-district that moved to greenlake and then sold to anti-vegans who hired anti-vegan chefs and gutted the soul and destroyed a beautiful thing.
Read moreThe chef in the kitchen literally mean-mugged me as I entered the restaurant. He presented as like a prisoner who eats babies. This is not a happy vegan.
Prices are now jacked up 30% higher, the menu has been reduced to dumpy dust and the spirit of the cafe has been murdered just like what the owners like to do to animals.
My sever (a vegan) was incredible, but whomever owns this place has got to go gold-dig elsewhere, may I suggest a urianium mine?
The crunch wraps were still on the decimated money-minded menu, but they did not have crunchy tostasdas in them. What the heck?
What was left was factory meat and iceburg lettuce in a squashed burrito. Anything else reported in there was irrelevant because it did nothing for flavor.
For the love of Ed, I have no idea how they expect to stay in business after they've scammed all the former customers into coming into this hollowed out husk of a corporate greenwash nightmare once to learn that Wayward is dead and gone. My friend and I argued over who had to take the leftovers home, the burden of carrying them not worth the effort.
Really pathetic that meat-mouth investors think they can rip-off vegans. You have no soul. We can tell. You can't sell love when there's hate in your heart. It doesn't work and seeing this once beautofu cafe limp to it's death is so sad.
Needs Major Improvement. Step One, Go Vegan. Nothing you do will ever be vegan or even vegan friendly until then.

If I ordered a crunch wrap and it came out like that I’d return it 😅 that’s so sad they sold out. Can’t stand meat eaters trying to make money on vegan food when they don’t even know how to cook it

I miss the second iteration of Wayward (when it was on University Way). It was a smaller location, but the best version.

University was my Fav too. I thought there was first? But no?

The first iteration was collectively run out of a converted house. There was a community bike workshop built onto the back side. It was still in the U district, located on a side street.

Wayward in name only - Edit
I wish I could review this place twice, one as a new restaurant, once as the new ‘Wayward Cafe’. The Wayward has been through several owners and locations over the years, the original collective-run version was imperfect, but was a really special place when the right folks were working. The first location under the new (at the time) owners on the Ave. was the sweet spot, it maintained the punk/DIY kind of vibe and employees while had the rigor of having people show up to work and cooking consistently. It lost most of its personality on 65th, more yuppie mom and the food got less good over time, but it was still worth it. The new, new owners have totally redone the menu, and the food I’ve tried has been very meh, no love in the taste or presentation. Middle of the road vegan, and the space and vibe feels like you are dining in a husk. The vegan community has changed a lot over the years too so maybe its time to retire the name and start over.

Cons: Middle-of-the-road food, Lacking personality
