Decent little place

Friendly staff and really nice food.
Nice place to grab a bite to eat and a drink or two.
Not somewhere I'd spend the whole evening.

Pros: 100% vegan no messing about looking at ingredients, Good size meal, Lovely chips!

Cons: Cost a bit more than I'd have hoped., Two drinks were unavailable.

Good junk food, poor management

An amazing menu of great junk food. Food is consistent. Beautiful pub space and lovely cats.

However... They run out of various things every time, I’ve never been and ordered exactly what I wanted due to them having run out. My parents visited a few days ago and they’d run out of... BEER. When you order dessert they will tell you they have none as they have run out of Swedish glacé (there’s a Sainsbury’s 2 mins down the road!! Buy it and serve it to me and charge me triple! This has happened over and over and over again).

The owners pop down occasionally but seem unfriendly. They’ve had some really, really lovely staff though.

It’s really frustrating as I love the concept of this pub and it’s so close to being absolutely amazing.

Pros: Great junk food, Beautiful space inside and lovely garden, Dog friendly

Cons: Runs out of everything all the time, Cold in winter, No atmosphere

Fabulous plant based boozer

Really friendly staff, cool decoration and well cooked menu with home made range of seitan delights. Definitely worth a stop if you’re passing or in the area.

Pros: Reasonably priced , Vegan cocktails

Lovely Vegan Pub

Lovely staff and pub. They have just returned the menu back to what they do best, burgers and hot dogs etc. Waiting times are hit and miss, at quite times it's not too bad. The prices are a bit steep too but most fully vegan places are the same. I still give them five stars though because it is a lovely Vegan place to hang out and the garden is very cosy.

Pros: Everything is vegan, lovely staff, dogs allowed

Cons: Pricey, smallish portions, long waits.

Phenomenal Vegan Heaven!

My daughter and I visited from Buckinghamshire on 12/8/19. Both being vegan we searched out The Monument as it promised to be a great option for us. It certainly was. I had the BBQ Burger which was, quite frankly, one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Topped with cheesy SAUCE and crispy homemade onion rings people! This burger was off the charts. My daughters eyes were bigger than her belly, she ordered Mac & Cheese & the huge Chilli Fries. She was defeated. And reckons it was the best Mac & Cheese, double winner!

Great portion size, value for money, flavours phenomenal. The staff clearly put an enormous amount of love and care into what they do and it shows in the dishes they serve. The pub itself is lovely inside, warm, welcoming and relaxed. Meat eaters will love this place too, it’s somewhere the carnivores will enjoy the experience just as much as the plantivores.

We loved our mum/daughter lunch here and can’t wait to bring the rest of the family back when we next visit Canterbury.

Pros: Vegan to the core , Homemade food cooked with love , Friendly staff

Monumental!

Lovely pub and lovely food. The monument dogs were amazing, the sausage tasted great and the bun was perfect. Great chips as well at the sweet potato fries. Really wanted to be critical about something, but I simply couldn’t fault it. Really made my day.

I also dragged along two sneering none vegans (plus one small child chip monster) and they all absolutely loved it. Will definitely come again next we’re in Canterbury.

Oh, also the best brownie I’ve. Ever. Had. *drools*

Pros: Exceptional Food, Fantastic relaxing pub, Lovely friendly staff

Cons: It’s not near my house!

Great vegan pub food

A safe haven for vegans and none vegans in Canterbury. Five minutes walk from the centre. We came
all the way from London to enjoy Canterbury and support this place and we’re not disappointed. Very nice pub, nicely decorated and not apologetic. Friendly staff, large portions and tasty food. The garden is lovely.

Pros: 100% vegan, Friendly staff, Large portions

Cons: Processed food, No vegan/animal welfare handouts to visitors

Visited several times

As a student I go here often due to the vegan menu and discount and have always had lovely food and been welcomed into the restaurant. Only con is that service is occasionally a bit slow. Definitely recommend a visit.

Pros: Entirely vegan menu, Comforting junk food, Friendly staff

Cons: Occasional slow-ish service

Our favourite!

My boyfriend and I love this place! Definitely book a table over the weekends as it can get super busy, there are an array of drinks available and the food is just unforgettable. I plan to take my family here who are not veggie, but I know that they will be excited to see what you can eat as a vegan. And the deep fried Oreos?! Words cannot describe how perfect these are!

Getting better

We have been to here a few times now and noticed some real improvements tonight. The service was friendly (new staff member I think?) and everything we wanted was available, and the student discount extended beyond just one item! Slightly new menu, tables moved around and all very clean. Although we did have to wait a while for our food, it was delicious as always (if you’re a fan of comforting junk food you will love it) and the chips were perfectly crispy and fluffy. Love the free garlic mayo on the side. Desserts were spectacular! Overall an enjoyable Monument experience.

Pros: 100% vegan!, Great comfort food, Clean, friendly, classic

Cons: Wait time, Quite pricy, Stops serving food at 8pm

Great vegan pub

I really like coming here. A characterful British pub that is 100% vegan is quite a unique and great concept. Not all their food is as nice as it could be but I would certainly recommend trying one of their burgers! Perhaps not cheap but prices are fairly comparable to regular pubs in Canterbury with less vegan, and less tasty options.

Extremely Disappointed

so disappointing, really wanted to like this place!! food took over an hour to arrive (after being told about 30 mins), which i cannot understand - it was early on a saturday evening and there were a few tables but not super busy?! they didn’t have any bacon or sausages, so ordered a bbq burger and a doner kebab. the burger was just a linda mccartney burger patty, that was quite burned, with a slice of violife cheese, limited bbq sauce and two onion rings, and soggy chips. the kebab was just some seitan in a brown pita, no sauce or salad in the kebab - so dry and bland.
after an hour of waiting i hoped that the food would be decent to make up for the ridiculous wait, but it all seemed shop bought and pretty poor.

Pros: All vegan , Large menu

Cons: limited food in stock , very long wait, poor quality, shop bought food

Disappointing

We went here because is a full vegan pub but was very disappointing. The service. The food was not very special and they didn't have the first options we chose so, the dishes with tofish, mac'cheese and chilli weren't available and they didn't make it clear at the beginning, they just told us after we chose. We ended to need to chose something more simple, was edible apart from the hotdog. The table, was dirty as is not properly cleaned in the gaps. The temperature was cold. The environment not friendly or comfortable. I booked the table in advance and beforw the busiest time so, didn't really expect this.

Pros: All food and drinks are vegan

Cons: Not all food available. Cold. Dirty. Expensive., Uncomfortable. Not friendly. Poor service., Food very simple, edible but not tasteful.

Spoilt for choice

Wow! I was in food heaven visiting this pub. What a luxury to be able to choose from the entire menu as opposed to having the token maximum two options (or the 'adaption' of the vegetarian option by removing the cheese) ! I genuinely was spoilt for choice but eventually opted for the blue cheese burger with an additional doner topping (don't judge, I just had to try it!) It was absolutely amazing! I will definitely be visiting again, albeit over an hour away.

Pros: Nothing is off limits, Friendly staff

Cons: Couldn't find a single fault

Best vegan place in Canterbury

Fantastic vegan take on old school classic pub dishes, highly reccommend the kebab burger, my girlfriend had the fish and chips and we shared the prawns, all of it fantastic.

Pros: All vegan, Great venues and music some nights, Staff can't do enough

A damn fine Burger!!!

great old school Pub dining but the food is with the times!. I opted for the “Doner Burger” after much indecision & I’m so glad I did! Now I’m going to have to visit Canterbury more often so I can work my way through the menu! I’ve never known an establishment to have so many options!!!

A great vegan pub

Lots of pub favourites to choose from - I had the tofish; amazing batter and great peas but I would have personally preferred chunkier chips. I'd love to try the mac 'n' cheese burger next time and will definitely return.

Great pub food

Finally, a place where vegans can choose from a full typical pub menu - most of us went for the battered sausages, but there were vegan versions of many pub favorites. It was delicious - our only regret was not leaving enough room for dessert (we'll never know whether we would have chosen apple crumble sundae, or fried Oreos, or something else!)

And if you don't want to eat, it is a regular pub as well. (With friendly staff, and cat!) Will definitely go again when we are back in Canterbury.

Pros: Pure vegan pub menu

Good at what it does

Welcoming pub ambiance, with friendly staff and warm interior with nicely private books and corners. An excellent grey cat presiding over the establishment. Whilst many items were exhausted from the menu, those that remained were great quality and generously sized. However, mock meat was the order of the day and whilst very well delivered it would have been nice to see a few whole food options sprinkled in.

Pros: Huge portions, Excellent mock dishes, Imperious grey cat

Cons: Many missing menu items, Few whole food options

Food disappointing but overall pub nice

For a pub that is completely vegan and takes me 5 minutes to walk to I would have expected it to be a place I visit often! Unfortunately the food is quite expensive and always a bit disappointing, it is also quite unhealthy!
On the plus side they have a great range of drinks and a fantastic pub garden so not totally disappointing.

Great vegan junk food

My first visit to an all-vegan pub and was not disappointed. I had a special of philly cheese steak, with a side of macaroni and cheese and a bubblegum sundae for pudding. I would not recommend coming here with the intention of a healthy meal but it is brilliant for what it is, junk food - veganised!

Will certainly be my go to in future visits to Canterbury!

Pros: cheap, delicious

Cons: unhealthy, cold

Such a Shame

My boyfriend and I have been to The Monument 4 times now and each time hoping for better but sad to say that each time we are disappointed.

It is exciting to have an all vegan pub but it is a shame that all the food is bought in, not made in the kitchen, just fried and put together like a mcdonald's. The food is vegan junk food which sounds exciting and we have tried a lot of things, but it all tastes the same and lacking flavour, spices, herbs and variety.

Sometimes we have come in and made an order and the staff come back twenty minutes later to say there is no more left, so you make another order hoping there will be food left! It is good they are busy, but should order more especially if they're not making food there.

We will be back and hopefully things will change.

Pros: 100% Vegan, Nice building, Nice garden

Cons: Run out of food, Everything bought in, Expensive

Good for Vegan Junk Food

Love the monument, friendly staff, reasonably priced menu and delicious junk food. Not very healthy as things appear to be frozen, however the food is very yummy.

Pros: Lots of options for vegans available., Plenty of vegan alcoholic drinks, A big pro for me is vegan desserts.

Cons: Feels like a lot of stuff is frozen

Love the food, poor service even if friendly

I adore the food and atmosphere here, but have been let down but slow service, random closures, food being unavailable and stopping serving by 7pm. Such a shame else I would go almost every week.
