We had dinner here early evening on Saturday night before heading to a gig nearby. It’s an interesting place with a very ‘Jericho’ atmosphere (if you know, you know). We’d pre-booked a table and I’m glad we did as we could see other people turning up without having reserved a table and not being able to find one. It’s not the biggest place in the world and our table was nestled in the corner and the table itself was quite small. The service was quick and friendly and the food was really really good….. Couldn’t fault it in fact.

I had the mushroom pie, thought the crust was a little underdone but it was still tasty. I also tried the chili cheese fries, which were good, but it was a lot of food and I didn't get to finish it all! Would go back.

This is such a lovely place - plenty of local drinks to choose from, good food and extensive vegan options. I got to try the falafel kebab bowl and the dirty fries over the course of two evenings and both nights I left happy. There’s a lot more I want to try next time I’m in the area! Most things on the menu can be made vegan.

This is a nice pub in a really nice area of Oxford. The pub has a nice quirky/lefty/oxfordy feel to it. The food ranges between good and decent.

We sat here on a sunny night in June and had nice pub food. Decently priced and very tasty. Also lots of beers. We appreciated that most of the menu is vegan (or clearly marked when it’s not). That should be the rule everywhere, not the exception.

A Vegan (mostly) Tavern in Oxford! - Edit
During my stay in Oxford for #Oxonmoot, I made the delightful journey down the magical Plantation Street to @The_Gardeners_Arms no less than 4 times! Very Tasty! I got to raise a very light and refreshing pale ale to Jimmy Buffet upon hearing his passing. Kindly staff and owners with a wonderful clientele (including dogs!) enjoyed late summer breezes, vegan food, and a good pint! In their words, “While the pub itself has been around for over 200 years, we started the Gardeners kitchen in 2003 with the intention of serving quality vegetarian food that was appealing to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Our thinking was that it would be a relief for vegetarians and the dining companions to be able to eat somewhere that provided guaranteed meat free vegetarian and vegan food.” And it was for me a real “Green Dragon Inn” if you get my meaning! Read moreWe also had cheesy garlic bread, which was delicious. The flatbreads are authentic and really good. The staff were happy to accommodate our dietary requirements and adapted dishes. There is a good choice for vegetarians and vegans, and you can choose vegan or vegetarian cheese etc.

As much as I want to support veggie restaurants, I cannot hide my disappointment regarding the food here. We had 3 dishes, all of which were bland and badly prepared. The calzone, for example, was a dry flat bread with tomato puree and frozen spinach inside. No spices. We couldn't even eat it. The loaded fried were a huge disappointment too. Please up your game, it would be nice to have decent veggie food here because the atmosphere is good.
