Disappointed - Edit
I was really excited to visit this place, but the food was unfortunately subpar. The waitress was very kind and apologetic (although it was not her fault) and got us a juice and dessert on the house. Dessert was so good, it almost made up for the actual food!

An oasis in an ocean of meat-heavy restaurants! - Edit
Happy cow would only let me give 4 stars, but I give them 5. Key West is a great place to visit, but unless you like a lot of meat and seafood, your dining options are limited. Most Key West restaurants have from none to one or maybe two non-meat options and then you have to be very specific with what you order. We had lunch at The Cafe and there were lots of vegan and vegetarian options along with some non-veg options (all I saw were eggs and cheese, but I also didn’t look that hard). The food was enjoyable with good-sized portions in a nice little restaurant with some really cute t-shirts!

The best vegan food in Key West - Edit
With an extensive menu that offers a huge vegan selection, this cafe is a treasure on the island. We loved our entrees and desserts, and can't wait to go back!!

Charming - Edit
The restaurant itself is very homey feeling, with unique decor. The menu has a lot of vegan options to choose from.
Read moreThe staff is super friendly and helpful. However, the service here is quite slow. Make sure to allow for the more relaxed service, and maybe don't bring your friend that asks the waiter/tress questions every 5 minutes. The slow but genuine service make this place feel more homey and relaxing, but it is not the place to go for a quick bite.
My dad who isn't anything close to vegan really enjoyed the cafe and says he would want to go back.
Looking at the menu, you will think it's so overpriced, but the portions of food are very generous.
I bought a t-shirt there as well, and it is really comfortable and cute.
Pros: Friendly staff, Key lime pie!! (vegan), not a tourist trap; also popular w/ locals
Cons: Slooow Service

The king of veg spots in Key West - Edit
The breadth and selection of vegan/vegetarian options at this place was truly impressive. Each dish felt fully realized and packed an incredible amount of flavor. We actually ate here three times during our trip because we wanted to try as many of their items as possible.

Great food and a nice atmosphere. Oasis is a nice way to put it. Vacation destinations aren't known for their healthy food.

Plenty of choice and vegan options clearly marked on the menu. Tasty! Great to have cake - but choc cake was better than key lime cheesecake :). Another time I would try the croissants as well

We went there twice, because it was so good! You can „veganize“ some of the vegetarian dishes. Nice staff. Many vegan dishes! Although the place seems fully vegan (stickers, shirts...), it‘s unfortunaltely not.

Yum! - Edit
This place was awesome and much needed in a town with so few vegan options. Was a little out off though they seem to really push veganism and yet they still serve fish in a town filled with places who serve fish. I think they should ditch the fish.

A little unfair that we could give this 5 stars as it is not 100% vegan, however the food was awesome!! Super friendly staff.

Great Options for Key West - Edit
We've been to a few restaurants in Key West this was by far the best we've had for vegan options so far. We started with the teriyaki "wings" (fried tofu fingers). They were really good and served with a creamy vegan ranch type of sauce. Delicious! For our entrees we split an Italian "meatball" sub and a falafel pita. Both were awesome! The salads are big and very fresh, and the French fries were perfectly fried. All in all I would recommend this spot as the current top choice for a Key West dinner. For lunch I would also recommend "Sugar Apple", "Date and Thyme" or "Bad Boy Burritos".

Great Experience at The Cafe - Edit
The Cafe has an eclectic and funky decor, and a casual, welcoming ambiance. We ate there twice during our short trip to Key West. The first night we sampled the small plate specials. They were all delicious, and the vegan empanadas were spectacular! We returned for brunch the following morning. My wife eats eggs and had the polenta florentine. I had the tofu version. This meal was only so-so. What saved it is the amazing avocado vegan sauce on the thick slabs of grilled tofu and the well-seasoned kale. I regret not ordering the vegan tacos on special instead. The same dining room staff were there in the morning as the night before. They were amazingly friendly and helpful, and remembered us, impressive! This is my favorite Key West restaurant so far.

meh - Edit
They do have a lot of vegan and vegetarian options, but the quality of the ingredients is mediocre, Costco-level. It's more like dressed up vegan fast food that comes out really slowly. Service is super slow. People who work there don't want to eat there. The one great item on the menu is the chocolate pudding, wow.

They hate animals! Horrible service. - Edit
The bad service in this place kept us from eating there. We have a service dog in our family, and the lady at the counter started complaining as soon as she saw the dog. For a vegan place, the do hate animals, and treated us like an inferior species just for having a dog with us.

Comfort food - Edit
The Cafe has the most veg options of any restaurant in Key West, but this ain’t no hippie eatery. Their pizzas are AMAZING; the sandwiches are hearty; their brunch is decadent. You won’t lose weight eating here but you’ll be satisfied.

Fantastic Menu and Hearty Portions! - Edit
Our friends who live on the island told us about The Cafe and they were right - it was definitely the type of food we enjoy! So many delicious vegan options. The servings were large, which was good since we had worked up an appetite! I had the curried butternut squash and my husband had the kung pao tofu. Both were delicious! We went back for breakfast a couple of days later, which was fine, but not as good as dinner. (I couldn't get avocado toast with a side of fruit even though both those items were on the menu....just not together as one meal. Seems odd to me that the avo toast came with eggs and as a vegan, I couldn't substitute the eggs for fruit.)

A lifesaver when you’re away from home. - Edit
This place is the best on the island if you’re vegan or vegetarian. The whole staff can tell you exactly what is in any dish. They have dozens of options. Everything is delicious. We are here for breakfast 4-5 times and stopped in for their fresh juices on several occasions. The desserts are amazing and all are vegan. Staff is fun and friendly. Coffee is the best we had anywhere.
