Amazing! - Edit
Such a great combination between two cuisines and really friendly staff. Came here 3 times during my trip to Amsterdam for 9 days and is definitely my favourite vegan restaurant I tried in the city. Super convenient location also and cosy atmosphere

Improving - Edit
After reading the reviews of HappyCow, I visited TerraZen Centre with mixed expectations. The restaurant is very close to Amsterdam Central station and easy to find (although in a narrow back alley). Because others complained about long waits, I visited at 3 pm: too late for lunch, too early for dinner.
Read moreTerraZen is owned by a Japanese wife and Jamaican husband, that's why they serve Japanese and Jamaican food. Since I was kindly welcomed by the Japanese owner (speaking English, Japanese and a little Dutch), I asked her for a recommendation for Japanese food. She recommended the "Shingen Sushi", which took about 10 minutes to prepare. The taste was very good, but different from traditional sushi. Instead of white rice, brown rice is used, which in my opinion is an improvement. The vegetables seemed fresh and of reasonable quality.
Since I was the only customer, I had a long talk with the owner. She told me she was aware of the reviews mentioning a long wait. That's why they changed the kitchen and hired extra personnel. The not so clean toilet as mentioned by one reviewer still needs improvement. Except for that, TerraZen Centre seems to be improving all the time.
Pros: close to Amsterdam Central station, good Japanese food
Cons: not cheap, toilet needs improvement

Terrible! - Edit
We visited this place on January 3 and we were very disappointed with this place. We were initially excited about it being a 100% vegan restaurant but the food was way over priced. Also, their portions, expecially the jamaican plate were were small. We had a small portion of rice, green lettuce and some plain veggies on the jamaican plate. Probably only worth 1 euro or less but they charged almost 17 euros for this plate. It felt dirty and their toilet was very run down and filthy. Service... very unhelpful. Also, the food here takes about 45 mins to 1 hour to receive. If you decide to visit here, try the ramen noodle soup. It's one dish that we found tasty.

Jamaican plate! - Edit
After reading some negative reviews on happy cow, FM was a little confused once he got inside the TerraZen Centre. The restaurant itself is quite nice to be seated in. The menu is not confusing, the founding principle being (which any waiter will tell you) everything is vegan. A good principle. A GREAT principle. We had the Jamaican plate, and the tonkatsu donburi. The Jamaican plate was absolutely delicious. The kind of delicious that turned into regret for what could have been as FM stated on the tonkatsu donburi. It wasn't bad, just boring. However, FM is absolutely convinced that this is a 5 star restaurant if one knows what to order. The brilliance of the Jamaican plate must be repeated!

I will definitely go back when in the area.
Sorry but the toilet was dirty....

confusing but all vegan wide offer - Edit
The TerraZen Centre is conveniently located close to the trainstation. But not ideal for a quick bite on the go as dishes are freshlynprepared which can take a while.
Read moreAt first I was confused by the menu, on the huge chalk board because it had words as chicken etc. So I started to doubt about whether the place was still vegan. Luckily the friendly staff reassured me that everything is vegan but still most dishes were a bit unclear. So if you don't have a borad knowledge about Asian dishes suggest you pick out a dish based on the happy cow pics😉or order a surprise. Like what I did because the staff was new and didnt know about all dishes. I received a combi of different faux meats, not particularily my favourite but the dish was okay.
Pros: many different options, friendly staff
Cons: choatic athmosphere ;), unclear menu

Awesome! - Edit
The TerraZen Centre is probably the only proper vegan restaurants that is located that is located within the city center. You can find it in a small alley that branches off the shopping street. Inside its very cosy, they even have an Kotatsu! Their menu includes burgers, ramen, vegetable plates and more. Sadly they don't have a menu card, only a big blackboard on the wall. Prices seemed a bit expensive but the food was super tasty and definitely worth every cent!

Me and my friends had really good dinner at this place. The dishes are filling and delicious. The hamburger was amazing (i recommend to order it with vegan cheese and bacon). The ramen soup was super tasty as well. Al the dishes we ordered came with fresh salad.
Read moreOnly one suggestion, don't come too hungry as you will have to wait a while until your order is ready. I believe there's only two people working: one cook and one waiter. But the wait is absolutely worth it! Will be back whenever in Amsterdam.
Pros: Delicious and fresh food. Cozy atmosphere.
Cons: A bit pricy. Have to wait for a while.

Food is delicious and staff were really friendly - Edit
Cosy little place that serves Japanese and Jamaican food. The menu is all up on a blackboard and there was so much choice! We asked our server for recommendations and he explained how they made everything on the menu and what their top sellers were. This was so helpful! I ordered a Crispy Wrap with extra bacon and cheese (all vegan)... it was seriously amazing!

Didn't meet 4 star expectations - Edit
No ventilation means that the air inside was stale. I'm not exaggerating. Try cooking for a day in a closed kitchen and after some time the nice food smells are no longer nice.
Read moreFood is a bit too pricy and a bit too boring. Turns out they forgot to add the main ingredient in my dish.

The menu is not very descriptive so be careful when ordering, ask well before. The bacon is AMAZING but the cheese sticks are not at all cheese sticks, more like spicy nori fried rolls.

Delicious dinner! - Edit
We enjoyed a delicious dinner here! My husband had the Gyoza plate and loved it...he would have ordered 15 more gyoza if that was an option. I had the vegan plate and found it delicious. My mother had the organic Taco with “cheese” and it was okay. I think the vegan cheese made the filling a weird/thick consistency...so if I were to order that again, I’d skip the “cheese” option. The menu is posted on a big blackboard and there are no descriptions of the dishes or detail about what’s included with each of the various “plates”, so it was a little hard to order and I felt like a pain asking the server what was on different “plates”. We will definitely go back!

Lovely food, need more staff - Edit
UPDATE: We came back here a year after my first review and it was exactly the same situation - only 1 member of staff (I think he said another member of staff was ill or didn't turn up or something). This guy was trying to take orders, clean up and cook all at the same time. Last time it could have been a one off, but a second time, they just need to hire more reliable staff as the whole experience suffers a lot. Star rating reduced to 3 because it's just a bit silly.
Read moreOriginal review: We went here for lunch - there isn't much seating, but we managed to get a spot at the end of the big table. The menu is written out on a chalk board and there's a separate drinks board (hot drinks on one side, cold on the other which I didn't see until leaving).
I'm not sure how it usually is, but on this occasion there was only 1 woman doing literally everything. She was the chef and the waitress, so taking orders, clearing tables, taking payments, serving food and cooking the food at the same time. Needless to say it took us well over an hour to actually get food, but all credit to the lady as she was completely serene and unflappable despite the insane multi-tasking.
The food was brilliant though - I had the Jamaican plate (minus the 'chicken' as this made it gluten-free) which was a really nice curry, rice and salad and my omni friend has the roti wrap which she declared completely worth the wait.
If this place had at least 1 more member of staff it'd be 5 star, but I can't really give it 5 stars when I actually had to rearrange my work meetings to allow for the unexpectedly long long wait.
