Temple of Hypeny - Edit
Its only just above freezing, stuck in the shade of adjacent buildings, the queue waiting patiently to the try out London's latest Vegan outlet snakes down the thankfully wide pavement. What's going on? The Temple of Seitan have opened up a permanent vegan deep fried "chicken" joint that's what! Seeing as its just down the road I decided I could weather the weather and the Hipsterdom and check it out. I arrived minutes after it opened and there was already a small queue! The wall menu was obscured by customers (time to add a menu list behind the counter me thinks!) but I knew I wanted to try their signature deep fried seitan (chicken) and chips. So I did. The batter is thick, crunchy and slightly spicy the seitan was hard to find but juicy enough. All in all very nice. The chips were standard "packet" chips. The menu includes Mac n Cheese and burgers and I'll try them out some time when the queues and hype have died down.
Read moreMy minimal meal cost £8 so you could get a bigger and healthier meal just up the road at the Black Cat or So Vegan cafes but this place is not offering health food. It offers vegan fast food. It does have lots of quasi fascist imagery on its walls but I'm sure its ironic or Hip in some way I'm missing.
It would be good to see a non corporate tomato ketchup on offer (not Heinz) to compliment the Karma Cola drinks.
Great to see a vegan food outlet with a queue outside whilst the butchers next door was deserted, hopefully a sign of things to come! Welcome to Hackney Seitan seekers!

Great Vegan Wraps! - Edit
This place has been on my bucket list for years. Wraps and tots were delish! Also, the shakes are the creamiest vegan shakes I’ve ever had. Service was pleasant and timely.

Delicious vegan junk food - Edit
I ordered in and loved it all: the burger, the wings, the tots, and most of all- the salted caramel shake. It was absolutely delicious. The wings are so.. juicy. Absolutely fingerlicking good!

Fun takeout option - Edit
It's perfect when you're craving fast food and need a fix of seitan. I don't have it very often but it's enjoyable when I do. There are many variations on the burger so there's always something different to try.

Vegan fast food - Edit
All-vegan place which is a great plus. They have burgers, chicken, and more stuff. Prices were okay. The food is pretty good, but nothing to die for. Would come again tho if I happen to visit London again

OK food, nice options - Edit
This is a fast food junk food joint. I wanted to make sure to taste the actual seitan so I grabbed the chicken strips and peeled the deep fry off (which is a bit salty for me) and the seitan was pretty good but not worth traveling the city for. I dig the vibe and messaging, though!

Wonderful vegan fast food - Edit
Great priced vegan fast food with friendly staff and a clean facility. This particular location did not have a bathroom, so heads up they also did not have Wi-Fi. But there’s a toilet across the street at the Tesco. What are the best things in my opinion was a cookies and croissants, but don’t get me wrong. I’m a slave to the Seitan.

Delicious - Edit
Decent sized menu which took a while to choose from. I went for the temple burger, fries, drink and cookie combo. Everything was super delicious and well sized portions.

Alright i guess - Edit
I first visited Temple of Seitan’s original branch in 2017 and their Camden branch last year. Each time i go the quality seems a bit less. We each had the Nashville Hot with a shared large fries. Didn’t like the ordering screen at the counter- i prefer using an app on my phone which makes you appear less of a Wally. The food was ok but nothing special, fries were quite crispy but the seitan was less so. I doubt I’d pay the chain another visit- there are just so many better options in London

Delicious vegan fast food - Edit
The food was amazing ! We got the donner wrap, cheeseburger, wings and Mac and cheese. It’s a fast food restaurant but they completely missed our friend’s order so they had to wait for over 40 minutes to get their food which was a bit disappointing. Apart from that we really enjoyed.

Good, not amazing - Edit
With a name as wonderful as this, I guess we were expecting more. The vegan fast food here (especially the BBQ chick’n sandwich) was good, but nothing to write home about. I’d eat here again and try more items.

Great Fast Food with customisation! - Edit
The food was awesome, we had the temple burger and nashville hot. Everything is customisable via the online ordering system for dine in or take away, which makes the whole menu even better! We both upgraded to a large meal and the size of the fries was fantastic and they were so hot and cooked fresh.

Pros: Customisable menu via online ordering system, Delicious food, Everything cooked fresh

Massive portions - Edit
Bit of a weird one, disinterested staff who didn't even acknowledge our existence when we entered; we were the only people there and they were just leaning on the counters talking about it being payday soon. Awkward and slow system for ordering the food, and requested cutlery as staying at a hotel for work, but got back to the room and none had been provided; which made eating some aspects very difficult (predominately the coleslaw and the doner snack pack), though the burger had been slopped together in a way with so much sauce that it was virtually impossible to eat by hand, so I ended up consuming the meal with a teaspoon from the hotel room. (The Hotel didn't have any other cutlery available; I did ask)

We kept going back to get more burgers and milkshakes. Oops. The garlic Parmesan is omg. The milkshakes as well are super nice. I wish there were more of these around.

Sad turn of events - Edit
I first visited Temple of Hackney on their first day of opening, queues were down the street and it was so worth the wait! I travelled to London, and every year I would travel London and make sure the trip entailed my yearly visit to Temple of Seitan.
Read moreI am incredibly disappointed in the food now. Since they've expanded their menu, their flavour and quality has went down hill. Every visit, it seems to get worse.
Sadly, this will be my last visit to ToS

Finally! - Edit
I've been meaning to eat here for ages and finally made it. The milkshake was perfect, the wrap didn't turn out to be what I expected. The döner "meat" was not at all like döner, I expect it to be shaved seitan rather than little cubes so I was a little disappointed. I was told the burgers are amazing so I will try one of those next.

Great variety of choice - lots of options. The seitan itself is tasty, and the fries have got that Burger King taste which I love. Yeah good food, worth going to

Bland and greasy - Edit
Admittedly, it's been a few years since I've been to the Temple (and only to the Camden location), but I remember it being great! Unfortunately, it seems to have gone downhill, as the food was bland and greasy. The calories were definitely not worth it. Taking into account the competition, both from other restaurants and home, it's unlikely I'll step in one again.
