Definitely worth a try

Lots of vegan options. We tried several:

• Vegan fish & chips: The banana blossom had a great flavor, but was very stringy and hard to cut/chew.
• Vegan Golden Fish & Chips: Made with tofu instead of banana blossom. Less flavorful but also less difficult to cut/chew.
• Seitan Steak Ale Pie: We were super excited to try this, but it turned out to be a disappointment. Not too flavorful. The mashed potatoes and gravy that came with it were, on the other hand, DELICIOUS—definitely the highlight of the meal.
• No Chick Burger: Didn’t even get to taste it, as our youngest—who is *not* a good eater—basically inhaled it. So a big thumbs up, I guess.
• Mushy peas: Yum! Not spicy, like I like them, but tasty.

I generally prefer (thin) fries to (thick) chips, but not here. We had both, and the chips were better—nicely crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Douse them with plenty of vinegar, of course.

The Guinness was really good here. They must sell and lot and clean the lines regularly.

Overall, a nice vegan versions of British classics. There are better examples (like at the nearby Prince George), but this place is totally worth a try.

Pros: Many vegan options , Staff totally understand veganism , Nothing is cheap in London, but not too expensive

Cons: Food could be more flavorful , Small place, no outside seating

Nice vegan calamari

We had vegan calamari and vegan fish and chips. The calamari was really nice (very close to the texture of the real thing). The fish and chips were good but it was a bit too much banana blossoms. Lots of food. Would love to try some of their other vegan options.

Vegan Fish and Chips

I loved the number of vegan options. Trying vegan fish and chips was fun. Food way okay. Had a lobster roll special which was nice but nothing to write home about. Same with fish (banana blossom) which was just deep fried. Thick cut that almost became too much blossom. Flavor limited but def a novelty.

Pros: Options, Service , Cost

Huge range of vegan options at this chip shop based in Hackney! Would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Great “Fish” & Chips!!!

I have been wanting to try the new vegan menu at this traditional chippy in East London. The “fish” is made out of banana blossom on top of a pile of perfectly fried chips, which I doused in salt & vinegar. I was stuffed.

Pros: Traditional, Inexpensive

Interesting part of town

Small shop in interesting part of town, directly at bus and "overground" (metro) stop. Probably take the bus, it's educational & nice. They also sell oysters & other (fish) animal tissue. The vegan fish does not and is not supposed to taste like fish, it just mimics the look. Good chips, two types of vinegar (one is onion-infused (!)). Around 20 seats inside, none outside. Many clearly labeled vegan options. Staff knows about food ingredients.

Cons: Zero taste of ocean / fish / seaweed

Decent vegan fish and chips

First I was disappointed after finding out that they serve meat as well as on google maps it says vegan fish and chip shop and on the picture, there’s a sign in a window “100% vegan fish and chips” that’s pretty confusing and seems to me bit of a fu*k up.😡
The menu is big and for its place fair prices.
I’ve heard so much how is that the best f&ch and how good it is and tasty and great. Well, it was good but I wouldn’t go for such a strong words of excitement. I mean, good it’s not tofu but banan blossom for change but it didn’t taste any “fishy” to me tbh. I’m talking now about the Calamari Strips. But actually all of what I tried. I guess it reminds ppl of the real thing that it’s in a lot of batter which has this proper fried taste and texture. I’m not saying it’s bad, I enjoyed it, but would expect more of the fish flavour made by spicing it up somehow.
I enjoyed the Prawn cocktail the most. Very nice flavoured cocktail sauce. Unfortunately the “prawns “ seems to be those you can get from Asian stores frozen.
Very good fries and chips.
Mushy peas- I guess good, I’m not big fan of it so difficult to say.
Nice creamy coleslaw.
Average gravy with chunks of onion.

All in all, glad I tried. Good options, but was not so satisfied as I was expecting. The portions of fries and chips are huge! Nice helpful staff.

Came back after many years. I’d say probably about the same.😄

lots of options, but food wasn't that good

They have a lot of vegan options on a separate menu. Went for the fish & chips with the banana blossom 'fish' and a side of mushy peas. I agree with another reviewer that the banana blossom tastes like artichoke hearts, tasted not at all fishy to me. The consistency was good though, as was the breading. The chips were a bit disappointing, quite undercooked. The peas and tartar sauce were good.
All in all, I think I might go back if I'm in the area, but I'd definitely pick something else.

Pros: lots of vegan options, large portions

Cons: not very good, undercooked chips

Lovely staff but dry stale chips

I ordered the vegan scampi and fries, the portion of chips was massive but I was only given a handful of scampi which was a bit sad as it felt like my dinner was just chips.

I’ve eaten from their other restaurant before and the banana blossom and chips rocked (those chips were exactly like the chip shop chips i remember eating as a child) but these chips were dry and flavourless, even after coating them in ketchup and vinegar the mask the dry taste I still couldn’t enjoy them. I put so so much salt on them to try and revive the flavour but it just did nothing.

I think really it depends how you like your chips. These were just so so dry and flavourless for me.

Otherwise the scampi was amazing and the staff were just lovely.

I recommend going to their other joint in stoke newington. The food there is excellent

Sutton and Sons Fish and Chips

I've never had real fish and chips so I can't compare between the two, but the vegan fish and chips were tasty. They were made from banana blossoms (which tasted like artichoke hearts) and were very creative. The fish and chips were a bit greasy, but that's to be expected, right? Don't forget to grab some vegan aioli (they have three flavors) to pair with your entree. Enjoy!

Incredible vegan fish and chips!

Sutton and Sons has perfected a vegan version of the British classic! Their vegan “fish” is made with banana blossom. It has a great flavour and mimics the texture of fish really well. And for anyone who’s not a fan of “fish,” the vegan battered sausages are great too!

Pros: Well priced, Big portion, Creative

The best vegan fish & chips

The staff immediately asked us if we wanted the vegan menu or the regular menu. We had fish and chips and it was scary how much it tasted like real fish. So good!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, on the cheaper side

Good vegan fish and chips.

You must try this if you love fish and chips and want a very good vegan alternative.
I liked it more then they had a separate shop for the vegan menu though!

As good as vegan Fish and Chips gets

We were really impressed by this place. Separate vegan menu was a really nice touch. Unfortunately couldn’t try everything but the fish made out of banana blossom was very impressive, as was the vegan tartar sauce dip and curry sauce.

Really friendly staff too.

A must if you’re a fish and chips fan.

Pros: Welcoming staff , Loads of quality vegan options, Not over priced
