Great ‘fish’ tacos - Edit
Really good food! I had the Korean ‘fish’ tacos and the bbq cauliflower wings and the food was really tasty, especially the tacos. The dishes are creative and nicely presented. The portions are small however, so it’s quite expensive if you wanna order enough food to get full.

Food for Instagram - Edit
Very disappointed.
Read morewhen a restaurant has an open kitchen I want to see how food is really prepared, not scoop up half prepared stuff from a massive Tupperware and just watch someone cook it in a pan for 5 minutes. It's insincere and just puts me off.
Plates were prepared for Instagram but not for food lovers, with lots of microgreens and colourful pickles, the taste, hardly matches the look. How much would you be willing to pay for this food sans all that 'fluff' such as the open kitchen and colourful presentation??
There is little creativity in the offering as well. Pretty standard vegan stuff like hummus, kimchi pancake and cauliflower wings.
Also at this price it's unacceptable that this place uses sirirscha sauce. Splashes of the red sauce did for the gram but also turned the food really salty and is completely unecessary.
Very poor service. Staff was just texting on their phone and not taking orders.

Loved the kimchi pancakes - Edit
I ordered cauliflower wings and the kimchi pancakes. The cauliflower was good but the kimchi was great. I thought they had great flavor. I would love to visit again and try other items on the menu. #Veganuary

Delicious! - Edit
We had such a lovely meal at Stem and Glory. Great location and handy for the Barbican (we were there for a concert). The flavours were incredible (we especially loved the bang bang broccoli) and the plates huge. We had the swede gnocchi and pumpkin ravioli with a side of seasonal veg, which were all delicious and very filling (we’d probably go for a selection of small plates next time to try even more dishes).

Good Food but things let it down - Edit
The food is good. My meat eatingbguest enjoyed.
Read moreBut service is a bit….. sub-standard for the price.
Most of the staff didn’t seem to do much. Deliveries all seemed to be in the front door, often taking up in line with customers, or customers having to wait for deliveries to be dealt with.
Service staff don’t seem to have been trained to same standard.
They asked us to keep our dirty cutlery. (I’m sure we could have demanded ‘no’ and I get it: there’s an environmental aspect…. but I really didn’t enjoy filthy cutlery on the table in between courses. It doesn’t take much water / detergent to clean a knife and fork.
We asked for a box to take some main course away, and it just got dumped in the middle of our table. Straight away. The tables aren’t big enough: they should have kept and presented it back, or had a little bag we could have put down by the side of us. I ended up tucking it out if the way by the side of us while we ate and had drinks so we’ll that we missed it on the way out and left it behind.
Pros: Good menu, Plenty of options, Quality ingredients
Cons: Poorly trained staff, Poor standards, Wines were poor quality.

Creative menu but a few things let this place down - Edit
The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and creative menu. The drinks prices were on the expensive side, though perhaps that's just reflective of central London.
Read moreHaving read the variable reviews, I had set myself up to be underwhelmed by the food. However, I was presently surprised. We had a selection of small plates, all were nicely presented with good flavours. Having a selection of small plates meant that we got to try a range of different things rather than one main course. Whilst each was tasty, the 'oyster' dish was my favourite.
I was disappointed by the quality of wines available. Quite a few were just pretty average wines, and whilst the wine menu says most are organic, when I checked they weren't organic.
The toilets were dirty and as there were only two of them there was often a queue.
Pros: Creative menu
Cons: Expensive, Toilet cleanliness, Non-organic wines

Needed a restaurant close to the Central Line, and this place didn't disappoint. Modern, clean, light and airy environment with plenty of seating. Ordered a few plates to share, the BBQ cauliflower wings were fantastic. I've had better burgers, but it was made up by the accompanying ingredients within it. All the food was super fresh. Recommended if you're in the city.

Just not enough glory - Edit
I wanted to love this place. I really did. So much so, I visited twice. Creative, fresh appetising menu, attentive staff and good kitchen vibes. Everything set up for a balanced and exciting vegan meal at a reasonable price. But then something in the execution makes it fall short of expectations. The fish tacos were good but wishing the mushrooms were more crispy, better cooked and the Colhrabi had some bite and a little less mayo. The sweet & sour brocoli had potential, if not so soggy, so salty, so weighted by the heavy sauce. The salad could have been more vibrant and less soggy.... Will keep trying

Plant based and carbon neutral - Edit
I love supporting plant based businesses, and my son and husband, who are omnivores, were happy to join me here. The menu was creative and we enjoyed our dishes. My son had the Asian watermelon salad (crunchy, juicy, tangy) and the Bang Bang broccoli (spicy, crispy, slightly salty). I had the Swede gnocchi (chewy, creamy), and my husband had the Pumpkin ravioli (rich and slightly sweet). We all agreed the Pumpkin ravioli was the best, most satisfying dish of all, but they were all tasty!

The good, the bad and the ugly - Edit
We’d heard good things about Stem and Ginger (S&G) and eventually got around to visiting for an early pre-theatre meal.
Read moreThe Good - The food took an appropriate amount of time to be delivered as it was cooked fresh. We took three small plates and a carafe of water …
The ‘Korean ‘Fish’ Taco’ consisted of 2 blue corn tacos layered with crispy king oyster mushroom - the ‘fish’, shredded pickled carrots and red cabbage, red fox carlin beans, lime and ginger kohlrabi with a wasabi mayo and a side of chopped red chillis. We were warned the chillis we’re really spicy but they weren’t and complimented the tacos. They tasted really good and while they didn’t have the fishy taste or smell we’d expected, they were superb.
The ‘Kimchi Pancakes’ were 4 savoury pancakes laid end to end and slightly overlapping had a topping of crunchy salad with sliced chillis and a Korean soy sauce. Then the whole plate was drizzled with a chilli and garlic 8Jang sauce. The pancakes were fluffy, the crunch of the topping gave great texture to the softness and the sauce finished the flavour combo off nicely. A delight.
The ‘Asian Watermelon Salad’ was fresh, summery and a gorgeous palate-cleaning finish to a lovely meal.
The Bad - A roundish girl doing a bit of pre-evening cleaning dragged a metal chair right across the floor then behind the counter bumping it into things. She didn’t care as she proceeded to clatter it around lazily. She then folded it banging it again before tucking it away noisily. If I didn’t know better I’d have said it was a set-up because she couldn’t have taken any longer or made any more noise if she’d tried. After which, she chattered too loud and looked like she was completing forced labour. Utterly miserable.
The Ugly - The place only had a couple of other people in it which doesn’t make for a great atmosphere, but you can’t hold that against S&G. The specials board was still offering Father’s Day despite being days out of date. My main negative is around the same miserable member of staff. She left mops out, brushes out, chair out and turned it into a cleaning room instead of doing a single job and putting something away. It was unsightly and unnecessary.
Overall the food was good but the staff bad and the place looked ugly for a long while, spoiling the experience. All of which could be avoided.
Would I go back - To S&G yes, but not to that particular S&G restaurant.
Would I recommend - Yes, but not that particular S&G restaurant.

Avoid if you're wanting something other than mushrooms - Edit
My partner and I visited, excited to try a fresh, up-scale vegan restaurant (that wasn't the usual Mildreds or The Gate).
Read moreThe staff were friendly and efficient; perhaps, too efficient - we felt we were hustled in and hustled out, despite a fair few tables being empty during our visit.
At first glance, the menu appears wide ranging - items such as Swede Gnocchi to Aromatic Cioppino sounds like heaven. On deeper reading of the menu, 5 of the 8 "large plates" mentioned mushrooms at their main ingredient, betraying a potential lack of imagination. Full disclosure: I hate mushrooms.
She had the Dirty Burger - for £15, we felt this was slightly on the small side of things.
I had the Pumpkin Ravioli as it appeared to be one of the 3 items that did not contain mushrooms. When it arrived it contained lots of mushrooms.
Dessert was sticky toffee pudding and the raw chocolate marble cake - both were excellent.
Another plus - the menu includes the CO2 emissions of each dish, something I've not seen, well, anywhere.
Pros: Clear communication of each dish's CO2 emissions, Good desserts
Cons: Mushrooms are effectively the backbone of the menu
