Stem and just short of glory - Edit
Nice contemporary interior with great staff, observing well the current coronavirus etiquette. Good selection of wine to start. It's great to have a full vegan menu and there is plenty of creative options. We started with BBQ cauliflower wings and yakitoti tofu. Mains with Shakshuka and bao. To be honest the mains were little underwhelming. Bao bun lacked any punch and too much mayo. Likewise the shakshuka tomato and chickpea base was not well seasoned or rich. I'd go again because selection great but just want a little more depth of flavour
Read morePros: Lots of vegan options and good wine selection
Cons: Didn't quite deliver on flavours

What are you waiting for - Edit
First night back for Stem and Glory post lockdown as a dine in option and it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Read moreThe floor was being manned by the lovely manager who provided top notch service to match the food.
I’m not sure why I hadn’t gone there before.
The kimchi pancakes and buffalo cauli wings were a great start with delicious accompanying sauces. Bao burgers for main, now who doesn’t love a bao bun. Had the tempeh this time but next time will definitely try the mushroom ones.
Dessert couldn’t have been better, the cheesecake and the hazelnut torte to be recommended.
The atmosphere of the place was airy, spacious and relaxed and we sat outside given the warm weather. Can not wait to go back.
Pros: Food, Atmoshperee

Much Improved - updated review - Edit
Edit after second visit. The menu is improved as is the value for money as we paid almost half than what we were charged on our first visit a year ago.
Read moreModern, Scandinavian style interior. Expansive drinks menu. Dinner menu consist of ‘nibbles’, starters or small plates, mains and desserts. Healthy, imaginative dishes. Mostly gluten free. All wines are vegan and they have some unusual ones, which is great. Very good service.
Pros: All plant based, Mostly gluten free, Wheelchair friendly
Cons: Too expensive

A hidden vegan gem! - Edit
I stumbled upon this restaurant quite a while back and I loved it. I knew I wanted to bring my parents with me the next time I went there. Usually some of the vegan places near the center are really crammed and noisy. In this restaurant we had truly great time. The contemporary style of the restaurant was very pleasing and beautiful. The service was great - the staff was friendly and helpful. I ordered Asian bun pulled jackfruit - very delicious! My father ordered Swedish meatballs (I ordered it last time). He said that the meatballs tasted just like the real meat ones, he enjoyed his meal very much. My mother ordered the lasagna and she loved it as well, the lasagna was super warm, straight out of the oven. I also ordered myself Matcha. Besides that we got ourselves a cauliflower wings to share - super tasty, the “blue cheese” was super good! After the meal, me and my father ordered desserts - I had creme brûlée (I was so stoked to have it as it was one of my favorite desserts before going vegan, I guess this was just the kick that I needed to try making it myself. My father got raspberry cheesecake that he enjoyed a lot. So overall, it’s a great place to come if you want to get away from the busy streets and treat yourself to some delicious vegan food - the portions are big enough and the price is fare for the experience. Definitely one of my favorite vegan restaurants!

Perfect pre-theatre dinner - Edit
We visited Stem + Glory as we needed somewhere to eat near the Barbican Theatre, and it seemed to fit the bill, with good reviews. Suffice to say, it lived up to our expectations. The food was not only well-presented, but also delicious. The four of us had a mix of items from across the menu, and everything was delicious. The staff were friendly, and it wasn't too busy, although we were there early.

Not at all impressed - Edit
I found this place on HappyCow since I was in the area for a meeting and wanted a vegan pick me up. The restaurant itself is modern and minimalist. The menu is well presented with lots of seemingly good options.
Read moreMy vegan friend and I ordered the buffalo wings, roasted potatoes and the city and shakshuka bowls for mains. I found the wings to be way too spicy, I got hiccups from the first bite. This wasn't obvious from the menu and not highlighted by the server. The city and shakshuka bowls weren't great to be honest. They were pretty tasteless and a mishmash of different ideas which really ended in a big fat zero. I couldn't finish my bowl.
The best part of the menu was the roasted potatoes, they were also the cheapest at £4, it's the only item on the menu that I would try again. The rest of the menu is pricey for what it is.
Also I wasn't impressed at the service charge being added without permission. I probably won't return.
Pros: Roasted potatoes were really good
Cons: Expensive, Tasteless

Glorious Food, People Seem OK, Appalling Service - Edit
We came here frankly due to a January-only offer but the menu looked really good.
Read moreThat did not disappoint - the food was of glorious quality (praise indeed from ppl whose gold standard is The Gate), with (normal) prices to match.
Service was abysmal on a mediumly busy Saturday night:
The mains arrived when one of us (quick eaters!) was still finishing their starter.
We were then left without cutlery - OK 2 spoons & a knife to share and nobody came anywhere near enough to get their attention, but we coped with our burger & bowl mains with annoyance/amusement.
Afterwards we got menus for pudding but when a couple of mins later we asked, all the 3 main puddings were unavailable - could have said this first, perhaps? There were off-menu alternatives, which we then chose along with mint tea & a moccha.
The puddings came promptly, but with zero cutlery we realised as the staff member had walked away. We were left staring at our (non-pickupable) wonderful creations for (yes) 6 minutes before spoons arrived - not sure whether walking up to the counter to say can we please have some cutlery stopped it from being longer.
The tea arrived with the spoons, the coffee however had not arrived more than 10 mins later (both asked to come roughly with the pudding) so we asked, and had to ask again until it arrived 23 mins later than the tea.
We tried to catch someone's eye for the bill without exaggeratingly waving at them but after several minutes went to the counter to get it.
They brought it, having taken off the coffee cost due to delay, OK (in the end we chose to pay for zero of the service charge automatically added, but as if coffee included).
Sorry for sounding like a stopwatch obsessive but the credit card was sitting on the bill in full view for a full 16 minutes before us walking up coats on to ask if anyone was going to take any money.
The fact that the number of times anyone asked us whether the food was OK was a number between - 1 and 1 seems fussy to mention by comparison.
We'll have a look at reviews in 6 months to see if this car crash has turned around (we've since seen several reviews in the same vein).
Until that happens, don't go.
Pros: Glorious Vegan Food
Cons: Don't go until they sort out their service. , Prices match high quality of service and cuisine.

Good food, bad service - Edit
Nice bright, modern all-vegan restaurant. Food was good when it arrived but service was very slow, there was a huge group taking up 1/3 of the restaurant and the staff seemed overwhelmed by them. I’m sure they must have booked in advance (as we did) so they really should have got enough staff in to cope with them without impacting on other diners.
Read moreOur mains took ages to come & when they did one meal wasn’t what we ordered meaning my husband had to eat his dinner on his own before mine finally arrived. Not ideal for a birthday treat.
Again we had to wave down staff to order our desserts but when they came they were excellent.
I would return on the assumption that this was an unusual situation for them and that service is usually better.

Must have been an off day - Edit
I was so looking forward to eating here after seeing all the wonderful reviews but I'm wondering if they were for a different restaurant. Not a single thing that we had was any good and I was massively disappointed.
Read moreTo start we had some olives, black, pitted and very bitter. Then banana blossom "duck". It was very wet (like it had come straight out of the tin without being drained) cold and very bland. The pancakes it came with were cold and hard like thin cardboard, again straight from a packet, with some spirialised cucumber that hadn't been pickled or even salted and a not very nice sauce. The Linda McCartney hoisin duck ready meal is better than this was.
Mains were BBQ jackfruit bao buns, with some cold chips smothered in a tasteless gunge & a load of what looked like vegetable peelings on the side. The buns were burnt & hard on the bottom, the BBQ jackfruit too sweet and not at all spicy with more gunge slathered inside which made them unpleasantly wet & spongy as well. Epic fail. My companion had the shakshuka bowl which consisted of a mix of bland tofu, chickpeas in tomato sauce and a load of cold, undercooked aubergine chunks and more vegetable peelings.
The service was the only good thing, we mentioned the terrible food to the manager & he was very apologetic. He took one of the mains off the bill and gave us a voucher for 20% off our next meal but I will not be going back I'm afraid. Maybe it was an off day or maybe we ordered the "wrong" things but it was the worst meal I've had in ages and I'd give it 1 star just for the service if I could. It's a real shame as I desperately want fully vegan restaurants to succeed but not if they serve food as bad as this.
Pros: Friendly service, Nice space
Cons: Terrible food, Expensive for what it was

Great Dinner in London - Edit
My fiancé and I were visiting London and decided to go here based on all of the other good reviews. I got the Swedish Meatballs and she got the S + G Festive Roast. It was all really good and what we were expecting. The restaurant was very modern and nice. We sat at the Chef’s tables and got to watch them cook our meals. It was a more upscale restaurant for sure which is what we wanted to do while we were in London. It met all expectations for me so I give it a 5 star review.

Had lunch there. The food options were original and tasty and all plant-based. We LOVED the starters (especially the Kimchi pancakes) My main (shakshuka) had a very strong flavour to it so maybe not for everyone. Unfortunately the polenta fries were extremely dry. When I raised it with the waiter nothing was done about it - he just said that's what polenta was notmally like!!

Slightly overpriced - Edit
Had dinner here and was disappointed by the prices. I had the lasagna which was very good, but my friend had the Rainbow Bowl and the 'beetroot' chorizo and nori tapenade were not tasty at all. There were many of these strange 'fake meat veggies' on the menu and I wonder if they are good. The online menu should also make clear that there is a 12.5% mandatory service charge, this is not the case now and misleading. The staff was very friendly. The place is a bit hidden and hard to find

Absolutely delicious! - Edit
Had an absolutely wonderful lunch here for my wife’s birthday. The food is divine, with so many amazing choices, we will definitely be back to try more. We had the luxury lasagne, mushroom and tempeh burger, buffalo cauliflower wings and hoisin “duck” wraps. Oh and the mango “cheese” cake was to die for! Cannot recommend this place enough. The vibe is smart but relaxed, great music and the service was perfect too.

Really really spicy curry!! - Edit
We ordered the set menu lasagne and cheesecake, and a curry with cauliflower rice. The lasagne was absolutely lovely, and so was the cheesecake. The curry was also nice but extremely spicy and it would have been good to have a warning on the menu. I wouldn’t have been able to eat it it was so hot.
