Gutes indisches essen

Was ok

I have never met a dosa I didn’t like. But today, that changed 🙁 it was cold, sweet rather than tangy and sour and the chutney lacked heat. This is an entirely personal response tho LoL. The place is clean, friendly and I may go back and try idli instead.

Pros: Veg and vegan options , Great price

Cons: I personally do not like the dosa batter😄

Nice Indian meal

We had some rice and curry on a banana leaf for a very cheap price. People are nice, bit crazy in the busy hours.

Nice Indian food

We ate here three times in three days. On the third day we were considered locals and allowed to help ourselves to extra sauce, but you have to work for that right!

We had the banana leaf thali, masala dosa, and vadai, all really tasty but you'll need to ask for extra chilli if you like your food spicy.

Priced for locals, you can eat well for two people for under 20rm.

Indian fast food

Selvam is a simple restaurant serving a small menu of very cheap South Indian street food items as well as the famous banana leave curry. I am not sure whether the banana leave curry is always fully vegan so you better ask. Went there twice because it was good, conveniently located and is incredibly cheap. You don’t need much time to eat here, and it has fast food atmosphere. So if you are looking for a place for a nice evening out this is not for you. It's perfect for a quick, cheap filling meal.

The Real Deal

Good food for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their Friday 9 veg banana leaf lunch special is really good and a great deal. Went back several times while in Melaka. It was always busy when we were there. Nice people working there. Prices are cheap too.

Pros: Cheap prices , Many vegan options, Quick service

Good value for money

Liked the banana leaf curry! Good portion size for little money. Also the breakfast options are soooo cheap, but tasty. Good value for money, in my opinion!

I was a bit worried about the hygiene at first, but I decided to give it a try because of the good reviews. Happy to say I did not get sick (& my stomach gets upset quite easily so ;)).

Pros: Cheap, Vegetarian friendly, Good portion size

Cons: Not super cosy

Delicious and cheap!

5 stars from me (it won’t allow me to give 5/5 because they serve meat). The curries were delicious & I loved how it was served on a banana leaf. My meal was 9RM (6RM for the banana leaf curries plus 3RM for extra veggie).

Pros: Inexpensive

I like to grab coconut candy here on my way.
Other wise they have pretty regular local Indian food. To eat vegan here you need to know the food or ask lots of question.

Pros: Vegetarian friendly , Cheap , Easy

Great value - very tasty

5 stars for the masala Dosa. Very quick service, good veggie options. They were very accommodating when we asked for something not too spicy for our children. Very friendly and helpful staff who spoke good English.

Pros: Lots of vege options , Very good value - we had 3 dishes + sides for £5

Good, but better nearby

Tried to get the Friday veggie special I heard about on Google, but didn't know it was time limited to went for the banana leaf instead.
Despite the menu saying 6 ringgit, my partner and I ended up paying 8 each. Not sure if it was a mistake or scam; she's bad at math so we didn't notice till after leaving.
There's another place on the street immediately west of the river which costs 6.50 and they will bring you more rice and papadam as you go if you like. If you're only going for the curry, go there.

Pros: tasted good, has vegetable specials

Cons: overcharges, specials once a week and brief

Good Indian restaurant

I took the banana leaf dish, and it was very tasty, with a lot of choices.
The price is normal for Indian food (or a bit lower), even if this restaurant is a bit touristy. Better to go on a week day, when it's not too full.

Cheap Banana Leaf Restaurant

Indian food, which is always great. Banana leaf concept, great roti canai as well (make sure they don't use egg). Several vegetarian and vegan options, just let them know up front. Super tasty and hardly costs anything.

Pros: Cheap, Central, Tasty

Cons: Not all vegan/vegetarian
