Better than initial impressions - Edit
The lady speaks excellent english and will adapt meals to suit. As ever be aware that many places state vegetarian or even vegan and still fail to realise that oyster sauce is not what we want. This place actually allows you to check ingredients in detail AND the food (15 to 30,000Kip) is worth waiting for including possibly the best Mango and sticky rice (17,000Kip?) we've ever had - and we try it at every opportunity! As the previous reviewer states, it would be nice to see no poor caged birds but sadly this is very common in Laos. The market through which you walk to get there has some very sad sights (in early morning) but that is a fact of life at most markets in Laos sadly. It is little more than 3 or 4 minutes walk from the corner vegan 10,000 Kip a plate stall on Sisavangvong Road at Wat Mai (which opens at 5pm or so most evenings).

Nice place but on the day market street so bad smells kept wafting in. Didn't enjoy the tofu lab but my partner did. not really a fan of raw veg. Not very cheap. about 25k for a meal .

I think that the experience eating at this place may vary depending on who's working and at what time you go, since many people seem to like it. We went here after sundown, which I think takes away some of its charm.
Read moreWe ordered the noodle soup, which was OK (we've definitely had better) and the Lab Tofu, which was rather dull, not very warm, and sometimes way too peppery.
I wouldn't mind going here again in daytime to give this place another chance, but this time was a disappointment.

The prices were about 25 000 kip per meal without rice. It seems to be an average price in restaurants so it's a good price for such quality food!

Good Veggie Selection - Edit
Nice restaurant with very attentive staff - they give you the wifi code as soon as you get your phone out! Good range of vegetarian options considering it's not a vegetarian restaurant. Had the tofu lab, which was tasty.

Homestyle ovo-vegetarian + limited vegan options - Edit

Read moreThe main attraction for us was the "100% vegetarian" page on their menu. Upon closer inspection, there's a lot on offer for ovo-vegetarians, but fewer options for vegans.
We ordered two dishes: one of which was vegan as-is, and the other of which (vegetable spring rolls) normally contains egg but when we asked if it could be made without egg, two servers said yes, so we went for it.
Well, two things went not as planned. First, they brought us two of the vegan dish, even though we ordered only one. Not wanting to waste or to put them out, we just accepted and ate both of them. Then, they brought us the spring rolls, which we cut open to find plenty of egg inside. We called the server to the table and she said, "You don't want egg?" So, misunderstanding, apparently. To her credit, she volunteered to make eggless ones for us, but we still felt bad about it (and left a larger tip, along with extra smiles).
Bottom line: The food was good in a homestyle way, but we would recommend against special orders here unless you speak Lao well enough to be double-sure the order is understood.

Pleasant place between birdcages - Edit
The restaurant has a pleasant dining area, you sit in the open, lots of plants surround you, the waitress is friendly and offers Wifi in good English - you'd instantly feel comfortable, were it not for the many birds in cages. I counted nine of them, some of the birds being large - less so their cages.
Read moreLuang Prabang's menus are notorious for their incompetence: The Sunday buffet is labelled "vegan", but clearly offers egg dishes; the vegetarian section starts with a dish prepared "with oyster sauce". Etc. - Not so, it seems, in this restaurant. Vegan stuff can be identified with the help of the waitress (who was new, but sensible) and the vegetarian section is apparently really vegetarian.
I had a noodle soup with tofu from the soup section and the La(r)b Tofu And Mushroom dish with sticky rice - both better than average.
Pros: good, English spoken service, vegetarianism is understood
Cons: lots of caged birds
