Mushyaki at Hip Pun (Wednesday) - Edit
Read more in this vegan Taipei guide: https://itravelforveganfood.com/vegan-taipei-guide/
Read moreAs of August 2019, Mushyaki has stopped having a shop in Shilin Night Market. However, it goes to Hip Pun vegan bakery every Wednesday (from 11am to about 6pm) so you can stop by to try their vegan takoyaki. They also go to different food markets which you can check the schedule on their Facebook page.
Takoyaki is a Japanese snack that’s traditionally made with diced octopus. Substituting mushrooms for octopus, Mushyaki 寶菇燒 makes a vegan version that is as delicious and much more compassionate. The takoyaki is served with mayonnaise and other toppings. The mixed bowl is recommended as you can try all the different flavors.
Pros: All vegan takoyaki, Good prices

Fun food - Edit
Was here in June 2019. Saw this on happycow and stopped by to give it a try. Here's my review for Bao Gu Shao. It's a roadside stall that sells just one thing: little savory japanese takoyaki balls. Each ball had a piece of mushroom inside. We tried the 2 flavors that were offered for the day. Both tasty and served hot.

Rewarded for being green - Edit
I first learned about Mushyaki at the Vegan Frenzy in Taipei in late December 2018. The event organizers encouraged all attendees to BYO dishware, utensils, and drinkware to minimize the trash generated at the festival. So it came naturally to me to bring a glass container with me when I planned to visit their location in Shilin Night Market. The staff was so happy to see me pull out my dishware and told me that the owner wants to reward customers who do so by giving them an extra mushyaki for free. So yeah, I ended up getting two orders (NT$70 each) of mixed mushyaki, each with seven balls instead of the usual six. It was as yummy as I remembered from the festival, and you can pick which flavor vegan mayo you want on the seventh ball if you want. BYO chopsticks to go the extra mile and avoid using a bamboo skewer!
Read morePros: rewards BYO dishware, satisfying texture, lovely soy mayos
Cons: missing shichimi togarashi

Amazing vegan takoyaki - Edit
Such good vegan takoyaki! I live in Japan and have never found something like this. The takoyaki is made with mushrooms and even has vegan mayonnaise on top. Make sure to go to their new location (in Shilin market area).

A great snack! - Edit
This is really great, and pretty much the perfect snack. I love the hard outside and the soft inside, and all three flavours are good, the curry one being my favourite without a doubt. Luckily you can get a box with all three flavours (2 of each). One box of 6 will cost you 50 or 60 NTD.
Read moreIf they don't already have some ready when you arrive, it might take them a while to make them, but it's worth the (long) wait. Usually they have some already prepared though. If they do prepare them in front of you, do NOT eat them until they have cooled down (5-10 minutes), because they will burn your mouth if they come straight off the hot plate, and you won't taste a thing. Trust me, I'm talking from experience.
Close to the Shilin MRT station, 5 minute walk from exit 2.
They have a few seats if you want to eat it there. I usually take it to go.
It's not very busy, I hope they stay in business as it would be a shame to see them go.
Highly recommend!
Pros: Yummy!, Cheap, Good portion size for a snack
Cons: Long wait if they don't have some stock ready

Soft and delicious taste - Edit
First time trying takoyaki, I've never had the real one but these were delicious! I bought the mix of all three options and even tought I was the first customer, so it took a while to prepare it, I still wasn't disapointed. I like all three flavours, all of them are soft and tasty. They have some special flavours I've never tried before but it's not so strong still so delicious~ I probably mostly like the oolong tea flavour. The place is really easy to find and staff are so nice, they even gave me a water because of this hot weather. Worth visiting.

Very inexpensive, Good taste - Edit
Three kinds of vegan Takoyaki are available, Classic, Curry flavor, and Oolong tea flavor. Very inexpensive, a box of six takoyaki balls costs only 50 NTD. It tasted good, but I do not have anything to compare with since this is the first time ever I ate Takoyaki (normally Takoyaki is made from octopus and Since I am vegetarian since birth, so never tried it before. This is the first time I have seen a vegan Takoyaki offering) Staff speaks English.
