Top Tier Vegan Restaurant - Edit
Great atmosphere and many options.
Read moreI did get there in a busy time. They mentioned it will be a wait to get food. About 15 minutes. Which was fine for me. I was there to try the place.
I first got roasted mixed nuts as a little pre-appetizer. Also got a local sake. Very good sake. It was called tenpoichi. I do recommend. I guess it’s also part of the culture, they filled that glass to the brim. Not once, but twice since I got a second one and they do it on purpose. Balancing that glass making sure to not waste a drop felt like a mini game.
Next I got Karaage. I’ve seen the meat version before and always wanted to try a vegan version. So when I saw that, I told myself I’m getting it, no matter what. Had that and it was so good. Crunchy on the outside and juicy inside with a vegan mayonnaise I think you can dip in and it adds a whole other flavor profile. I think it’s mayonnaise, I could be wrong. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Next I asked for Spicy Dandan noodles. Presentation was just gorgeous. Tasted amazing. The little decorative things are edible. Made me want more but I knew I needed to save room for dessert and I couldn’t decide while I was finishing my first dessert.
I got a parfait. I wish I took a picture of it on the menu but it looked so pretty and amazing and tasted even more amazing. While eating my strawberry and chocolate parfait, I was contemplating getting the chocolate cake like thing.
It’s supposed to be this high end, very rich chocolate, if I’m not mistaken like a French dessert. Sorry I didn’t get a picture of the menu item but death by chocolate coma. In a good way of course. So rich, you add a little of the vegan wipe cream to it, amazing. Just amazing. So glad I got it. I love chocolate and since back home, vegan desserts are very rare thing, I had to go all out.
I was surprised how much food I got and the two drinks. I wasn’t 100% full but I felt like 80% full which is exactly how you should do it from a Japanese proverb. I wasn’t content and off to my next experience.
The waitress who cashed me out noticed all the Hello Kitty plushies on my bag and I had to show them off. I love Hello Kitty so I showed them all the other Hello Kitty items I have and she loved it. Kawaii she kept saying. Definitely made my night as I understood. It was worth every yen. Thank you so much JoGeSaYu.
Pros: Tons of options, Easy to find, Can have a 5 course meal with a deal they have
Cons: The 15 minutes wait if busy

Best Karaage ever! - Edit
We went in the evening after a long day of travel and I am so glad we did even though we were tired. The food was really good, especially the Karaage! It was nice and quiet when we went there and the staff was really friendly and helpful. I definetly recommend it and will try and go there again.

Friendly, Fresh and Delicious - Edit
JoGeSaYu offers a lovely selection of fully vegan Japanese cuisine. It was so hard to choose as they have an extensive menu with lots of options. Everything we ordered was superb! The veggies in the Vegetable Tempura so were fresh and lightly fried. There wasn’t a ton of seasoning on them, but they tasted really good. The Mapu Tofu Rice Bowl was very flavorful. We also got the Satoushi lemon cake for dessert, which was like a delicious lemon cheesecake. The other dessert we got was the Gateau au Chocolat—it was very rich and decadent! The restaurant itself slightly larger, so there’s plenty of seating and the servers and staff members were super friendly and very nice to talk to, as they spoke a little bit of English, and didn’t mind chatting with us!

Only visit if you have A LOT of time - Edit
Either the kitchen was understaffed or it is normal at this restaurant, but we had to wait incredibly long even though the restaurant wasn't full. I watched other customers debate if they should leave, barely anybody got to enjoy their food together.
Read moreThe food was okay, unfortunately it didn't say that the Katsu Bowl's "special sauce" was spicy, and so I couldn't enjoy the meal, as I can't eat spicy food. (The menu specified other dishes as spicy, hot, zesty, all of the above but this dish had none of these descriptors.)
The parfait was good and cute.
The price is hefty for that experience.
I would not return.
Pros: Parfait, Friendliness of the waitress, Easy to find
Cons: Waiting times, Spicy food

Don't recommend - Edit
A bit of a disappointment. I don't understand the high ratings. This is the first place in Japan where I've had to pay for a water, and the tip is automatically added. The food tastes okay, but nothing special. The cutlet in the katsu bowl was quite dry.

This place is friendly, clean and serves delicious food with nothing amiss. My wife however didn't like that most dishes are a bit spicy. This limited choice and enjoyment.

A Great Experience - Edit
The restaurant is clean and bright. Staff spoke some English and there was a menu in English. Loved the tempura, katsu and gelato. It was so good for lunch that we went back for dinner!

Must visit in Hiroshima for lunch - Edit
Wow, what a place! I want to try everything on lunch menu! The mapo tofu dish was delicious. As was the matcha ice cream. I did the coffee with rice milk to go and it was also very tasty and perfect amount of sweetness.

Lots of choices all of which are satisfying and delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive, not sure what went wrong in the previous reviewer’s experience - everything was great as far as my wife and I were concerned. Highly recommended!

Lunch and dinner - day ‘n’ night - Edit
I came to Hiroshima this Saturday and in somewhat of a pickle, so to speak. Ravenous after a good meal, I was absolutely delighted to find JoGeSaYu.
Read moreLunch was almost healing. My foul mood and skepticism over the speed of which the dishes were served had the place at a disadvantage, but when the katsudon hit, I could feel my body screaming for more. I ordered the tantanmen, too, and flavors were deep, rich, creamy and with that lovely, sesamy-nutty weight to it. Salad and miso were likewise silent hitters, not to mention the rich chocolate ice cream.
I left elated and charged, so going back for dinner, whilst my carcass munching relatives practiced non-existing moral integrity at Ichiran, was a no-brainer.
However.. the dinner experience was sadly far from the luncheon picklesaviories I’d experienced a few hours earlier. The service was cold and indifferent from the new evening waiter, only slightly bettered by the lunch waiters continuous, pleasant presence. Although the karaage and teppan okononiyaki were good, the ¥2000 sushi was actually laughable. Red and yellow pepper, broccoli and radishes with absolutely no inventiveness whatsoever. The katsu was also featured in the okonomiyaki, but felt like leftovers pieces thrown in. What’s more, the Japanese, standard water service was now nowhere to be found, and when requesting “o-hiya” (cold water) very politely, I was ironically, very coldly redirected to the ¥300 mineral water. Come on, now, that’s milking the already dry almond further…
They ended up forgetting my last order of mappo tofu, and on top of that they suddenly announced that the dessert was 25 minutes away. Coupled with service from the angry waiter and the crime of serving their food on plastic plates, I’d had enough and politely asked for the check.
It felt like two different places, and that’s sad, because the latter had me right back to feeling robbed at yet another vegan restaurant in it for the money and over charging first chance they get.
Lunch 4 - Evening: 1.5 - Total 2.75
Tl;dr: Go here for lunch, not dinner.

Horrible attitude of the restaurant - Edit
Very bad attitude towards customers. The restaurant was completely empty but they denied us a table. We passed through 25 mins later and it was still empty. Unsure on the reason for denial (felt a bit of racial discrimination)

They do stop serving food at 2pm. Perhaps it was that? Not sure what time they open up for food again. It’s not clear that they close at all.

Go Here If You Love Your Stomach - Edit
JoGeSaYu were the only Japanese entry to make Happy Cow's hot new places in 2025. Having now been there I can only say that they meet and exceed all expectations.
Read moreThe menu is full of Hiroshima delicacies and local favourites. We had a entree sampler plate and okonomiyaki, followed by donburi and Dandan Noodles. Everything was delicious and when we'd had our fill, we found room for parfait.
This place is not to be missed. It is an easy walk from the Peace Park and Castle, the staff speak English (and they have an English menu), and the atmosphere was quiet and enjoyable.
The only caution: we got a table in a near-empty room at 18:30. By 19:00 it was filling up and people were either choosing to wait or turned away. This place will only get more popular; consider contacting to make a reservation.
Pros: Best Okonomiyaki Ever, Parfaits!, Literally everything else.
Cons: Can be busy.

I was excited to see a vegan restaurant that also had gluten-free options (tempura and curry). However, the cooking utensils as well as oil are used for both gluten-free and wheat. Unfortunately, I had to leave without getting to try the food as I have to avoid cross-contamination.
