Incredible vegan food - Edit
We ate at this place about 6 times in 2 weeks. The meal deal is excellent value for two people. The udon is as good as what we tried in japan and the tofu nuggets are delicious. Really nice combination of flavours and very filling. The staff are very friendly.

Udon made in-house! - Edit
One of the biggest appeals of Hoshina is that chefs prepare their noodles in-house. Udon is always fresh and wonderfully springy. I generally frequent Hoshina if I'm looking for a somewhat fancier-than-usual lunch. Soup noodles are always served with copious amounts of fresh vegetables, which is rather unique and amounts for an enjoyable juxtaposition of textures and flavors.
Read moreMy only issue is that their broths are rather mild. Even dishes marked as "spicy" (udon with kimchi and "spicy" broths) lack in terms of seasoning. However, I do recognize that it may be Hoshina's way of responding to local flavor profiles. Just makes sure to request an extra kick!
Pros: Fresh noodles, A lot of greens!
Cons: Broths too mild

Vegan Japanese restaurant with great food - Edit

Read moreIf you are craving some Japanese udon, this vegan Japanese restaurant, Hoshina, is the place to go.
Their chewy, authentic udon is paired with different soup bases, like curry, miso and kimchi. If udon is not your thing, they also have sets with rice. Be sure to order their tempura as well as it’s well-made and crispy.
Their desserts are also unmistakably Japanese. From warabimochi to matcha ice cream sundae, you will be delighted to find the classic Japanese sweets made vegan. My pick is the matcha red bean sundae. It comes with a matcha syrup for you to pour onto the ice cream, red bean, mochi and jelly cubes.
With 2 locations in Taipei, it is not difficult to find Hoshina and have a great Japanese meal.
Pros: All vegan, Good selection of authentic Japanese items, Friendly service

Excellent Quality - Edit
Was here July 2019. Saw this on happycow and gave it a try on our trip to Taipei. Here's my Hoshina review. Was excited to try give the handmade udon a try. I got the hot spicy udon soup, and it was delicious. With my family we also got a bunch of side dishes including a lightly seasoned black sesame pudding, the plumed tomato, a greens dish, cold bamboo with housemade vegan mayo, tempura mix, fried nuggets, and fried beancurd as well a cold udon dish. Everything was delicious.

Excellent cold udon noodles - Edit
I love the appetizers here. You must try their sesame tofu, miso veggie roll, and kimchi. I stuffed some kimchi inside the veggie roll and it tasted better! Not sure if I should just order the kimchi veggie roll next time.
Read moreFor the noodles, I tried the cold udon, curry udon, and original udon. The cold udon knocks others out of the ball park. Highly recommended!
Also the portion is quite huge. Just FYI if you have a small appetite.
Pros: Casual environment , Good Japanese food , Vegan bakery next store

Rare Japanese Vegan restaurant - Edit
I was amazed that one server seated you, took your payment in advance, served and bussed for at least 20 seatings in this active restaurant.
Read moreIt was nice to get flavorful Japanese dishes (in our case set meals) delivered rather quickly despite what I mention above.

Loved their udon noodles - Edit
I’ve always loved Hoshina’s udon, so I’m very excited to see that all the dishes at this location are vegan. My favorite is the miso flavor udon. The spinach with nuts is also delicious.
