Excellent - Edit
Very nice atmosphere and servers, with lots of vegan options. I had the small vegan tasting platter for lunch, for which I got half a burger, some 'kapsalon', small curry and bread with guacamole, all for only €7. Everything tasted great, especially the kapsalon with sweet potato. The portion size was a bit too big for me to finish, so I don't know why other reviews are saying the portion sizes are too small for its price. I loved it.
Pros: Lots of options, Delicious
Cons: A bit cold near the front door

Probably the best meal dining out EVER - Edit
I am overwhelmed with happy memories writing this review.
Amazing food, such great flavours, wonderfully recommended, prices super good, filling and the friendlist staff!!!
I don't think I had ever tried any food like the plates they were putting out for vegan and the meat eater was happy to nosh alongside us. Quick service and beautiful spot.
Drink options were awesome too, I was able to try a GF lager which i'm always looking to sample as they are hard to come by.
Great work guys. I would move to Utrecht just to be able to enjoy the pleasure again and again.
SUPER LEKKER!!!!!
Pros: Food - great prices, perfect portions, flavoursome, Staff are so great, Menu is inclusive to all
Good food, friendly staff - Edit
Even though they serve meat, at least everything is organic. The menu is easy to read and with every dish it states whether it's vegetarien, vegan and/or glutenfree, but there were some mistakes. They have several vegan option, but only one that is also glutenfree. All the deserts are vegan and glutenfree as well, and they taste great! They have this nice option 'grand dessert', where you can try out a little bit of all the different deserts they have on offer that day. The staff is friendly as well. The place is crowded and the tables are really close together, so it can get quite hot inside.
Pros: 100% organic, Clear menu, Friendly staff
Cons: Crowded, Hot inside, Sells meat

Good, but small portions - Edit
I liked the food, but the portion size was quite small. Maybe it was just with that one particulair dish that I ordered, not sure about the other dishes.
Because of the small portions, I found it to be a little on the pricey side.
But the staff and atmosphere of the restaurant were quite good so I'd probably eat there again some time!
Pros: Nice staff and atmosphere
Cons: Small portions

Very good experience - Edit
I finally visited GYS this afternoon, after wanting to eat there for a very long time. I'm happy to say that the first experience was a pleasant one.
The first thing I noticed when I entered the restaurant, was the nice atmosphere. The interior is very hip and warm, and the staff is genuinly friendly and helpful. I asked the kind waitress which vegan dish she could recommend, and she adviced me to order the paella, since its freshness would suit the weather. The food was delivered at my table in under 10 minutes, so it's a great place to eat if you're in a hurry (although I must say that I don't know how fast the dishes arrive on a busy day). The paella tasted really nice and was indeed very refreshing. I also ordered the muffin of the week, which this time was chocolate flavoured. It had a nice taste and texture, and the plate was beautifully garnished. None of the dishes on the menu are super creative or outstanding, but that doesn't really bother me. It makes a restaurant approachable when you get what you expect.
I read in other reviews that some people consider the dishes small and relatively expensive. I have to say that I don't agree. I'm a big eater myself, but the paella filled me up nicely. I also honestly think that 10 euros for a decent-sized plate full of good food is inexpensive for Dutch standards, especially if you keep in mind that the restaurant is located in the city centre.
All in all, I think GYS is a great place to eat. Although not entirely vegan, they have plenty of vegan options and it's a good choice if you're eating with non-vegans. I am definitely going back soon to try the other options on the menu!
Pros: Good location, Friendly staff, Very suitable for people with celiac disease
Cons: No AC

Expensive for what you get - Edit
Restaurant is situated in my favourite street of Utrecht. The interior is very hip, but it get crowded and loud very quickly. Staff is doing their best and are really nice!
The vegan dishes are OK, but not really special. The prices are on the high side because the portions are quite small.
Pros: A lot of vegan options, Nice staff
Cons: Food is not really special, Expensive, Crowded

Good food, lots of vegan options - Edit
I come here often and I'm never disappointed. The menu has lots of vegan options and they taste great. Staff is always friendly. Prices are not too high, under 10.- for a main course.
Pros: lots of vegan options on the menu , friendly staff , hip interior
Cons: restaurant also serves meat, often very crowded place

You can be lucky... - Edit
Ate here twice, both times a bit dissapointing.
1st time was not so tastefull.
2nd time I ordered a ''proeverij'' that would give me a bit of everything. It mostly were dips with some bread and soup. More lunch like, than dinner. I expected various dishes from the dinner menu.
Desserts have been realy nice though :D

High Expectations Not Met - Edit
Firstly, Gys was nice. It had friendly staff, good music playing and a cool interior. I came based on a recommendation from a local friend.
However it could have been better. It was so busy when I arrived and the service was well intentioned but messy.
The prices seemed very high and the menu was misleading. The options are mostly vegetarian or vegan but then there is meat also. I can't understand that. Plus, one of the vegetarian options was incorrectly labelled as vegan.
If you don't need cool, chic decor I'd suggest continuing further down the same street to the more grungy and more enjoyable ACU.
Pros: Nice music and decor , Some vegan options
Cons: Poor value for money, Crowded, Incorrect labelling of food

Food was terrible - Edit
This could’ve been a great place to eat but unfortunately it wasn’t. On paper it looks very good, good menu items. The atmosphere was also very good. The things we ordered however were.. not very good. Or should I say terrible? Service also not vegan friendly.
We both ordered a vegan menu item, the Mexican burger with fries and the vegan combination menu to taste all kinds of vegan items. We clearly stated we were vegan. The fries were served with mayo and when we asked (lucky we did) it appeared to be regular mayo with eggs so they swapped it for the vegan mayo. The waitress brought a vegetarian combination menu by accident and had to swap it for the vegan one when I asked about it. Meanwhile my boyfriend almost eat his burger already (or was trying to). The burger was really bland and really hard (tasted like it was fried as well) with big hard pieces in it. The guacamole on the burger was a grey unappetizing colour without any taste at all, with some bigger square cold chunks like it was stored in the freezer and warmed up in the microwave. It was clearly not fresh!! The vegan combo was not very good either, with the same burger (small one), some very hard fried falafel balls and some bread with 2 spreads without added herbs (just blended plain beets). The soup (carrot with orange) was good though.
Like I said, the menu looked great, could've been so much more..
Will not be coming back here, or just to have some drinks..

You can do it better! - Edit
I was really looking forward to try their burger (vegan, mexican style). I was really disappointed. The patty was really weird, it was hard on the outside (fried too long?!) but kind of raw inside and smelled strange. Since the burger supposed to be mexican style, I expected it to be spicy with a nice salsa, instead, I got avocado mayo which was basically tasteless with lots of chili gathered all in the middle of the patty. The cake of the day was dry and tasteless as well. Nonetheless the cheesecake was quite delicious but way too expensive for such a small piece.
Pros: Organic, Lots of vegan options, Nice location
Cons: Tasteless, Lack of creativity, Expensive

Best in Utrecht - Edit
there are very kind stuff, serving time very short, unique taste for a meal and beer.
I drunk homemade (or local) beer and vegburger. They were really delicious and acceptable prices
You must see if you visit Utrecht.
I hope, one day their menu cover with all vegan dishes

My favourite not fully vegan restaurant! - Edit
I went here for lunch with my mum a few weeks ago and I knew even before going that it was going to be amazing because of the big social media reputation and lovely website! I was delighted to see that a majority of the menu was vegan and focused on local organic produce! The staff were very attentive and really nice. I had the open sandwich with tempeh, sweet potato and avocado which was served with a huge side salad, and also ordered a smoothie, chips to share with mayonnaise (which was vegan), everything tasted amazing and was prepared to the highest standard! I unfortunately was unable to fit in a dessert but next time i am in Utrecht I know where I will be eating, breakfast, lunch and dinner!
Pros: Many vegan dishes, Mostly local produce, Delicious food

lot of vegan options - Edit
Vegan options are labeled. There are also a few gluten free options. All desserts (4) are vegan! You can choose between a normal and a big portion of soup. The taste of the pumpkinsoup was great, a bit spicey. The smoothies and triffle with soyayoghurt weren't too sweet (not as sweet as in a lot of other restaurants). I certainly will come back to try the lemon cake. Prices are normal/a bit high.

Update a couple of months later:
I had diner here a couple of months later and the salad and dinner (aubergine schnitzel) were ok it didn't suprise me and the salad was a little bit boring. The chocolate pie was really good.
Pros: cozy place, vegan options are labeled, all desserts are vegan
Cons: a bit pricey

Cute place, tasty dishes! - Edit
The dishes are uncomplicated - although it seems - but when you take a bite, a taste explosion bursts in your mouth! We've had the vegan tasting and the mushroom salad. Both are very, very good! A variety in choices on vegan, vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Vegan cake is also recommendable!
Pros: Big, modern looking space, Vegan and vegeterian dishes, Fresh, organic, homemade
