Delicious scones - Edit

I had the most delicious warm fruit scone with coconut cream and jam here. The rest of the menu looked great, and I only wish I had been in York longer so I could try more food.

Pros: Friendly staff , Great menu

Lovely veggie cafe - Edit

Great cake selection, lots of vegan options. Menu looked good - the kitchen closed by the time we got there so didn’t get to eat properly, but the samosas were great. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Menu marked with vegan, gluten free options and staff good with dietary requirements.

A popular veggie-vegan spot in York - Edit

The Goji Café is a popular café and takeaway, and rightly so: it’s a great place to eat. It serves a reasonable selection of soups, starters, salads, mains, desserts and cakes alongside a good range of coffees, teas and other drinks. Many of the dishes are vegan, or can be adapted to be vegan-friendly. There are gluten-free options, too, but more choice would be good.

I don’t get the chance to visit often, but when I do, I like anything vegan on their menu which comes with roast potatoes. You can’t go wrong with a roast potato, but you could also try their tasty sweet-potato wedges. Their home-made desserts and cakes usually include plenty of vegan choices and are delicious. If there’s a vegan cheesecake on the menu, I can’t resist it. Not cheap, because of lots of expensive ingredients, but indulgent and gorgeous! Their other cakes are yummy, too. On the whole, the menu is good, but, even though I don’t visit often, it seems samey and just aimed at a student market. Would like much more variety, please, for all customers and more hot veg. But overall, the place is a gem.

For me, the huge downside is the building: there is a small dining room downstairs (and small courtyard) and another dining room on the first floor, but the loo is on the top floor: up a beautiful, but horribly-steep, old staircase. The place is virtually inaccessible for wheelchair users and many other disabled people. A move to a better place, with a downstairs loo, is long overdue. The waiting-staff work incredibly hard, dashing up and down lots of stairs all day long. And still serve with a smile!

Not a cheap place to eat, but it’s in the middle of an expensive city, so the prices will have to reflect their overheads.

Pros: Tasty food, with plent of vegan choices, Gluten-free options, Fabulous - and crazily-healthy - vegan cheesecake

Cons: Steep staircase, with loo on top floor, Largely inaccessible for wheelchair users, etc, Menu doesn't change enough: bit samey

Wonderful! - Edit

This place is fab. Offers a large selection of all sorts, sweet n savoury. I tucked into a vegan quiche and drifted off into a very happy place. It's reasonably priced for the quality (10/10) and amount of food you get (lots). The quiche and an orange juice cost around £8 which may exceed the lunchtime limit but they have lighter bites too, with a takeaway option which is rather handy. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is laid back and comfortable. My father, an unreformed omnivore, also joined me and had a vegan mushroom burger, to which he was pleasantly surprised.

Pros: Lots of choice, Friendly staff, Takeaway option

Always stop for cake - Edit

Goji always has great cakes and also Indian snacks like samosas. Whenever I’m in York, we usually walk past and get something.
They do a take out menu and eat in.
I’ve had quite a few meals from there over the years. Their Sunday roast was very good.
Things can, occasionally, move a little slowly but it’s worth it.

Pros: Predominantly vegan menu, Samosas , Cake

Cons: Can be slow if your in a rush.

Gotta go to Goji... - Edit

We love Goji and we always visit when in York. The staff are really friendly and the food is excellent. Over the years we have ordered many dishes and even dined here separately with friends the day before our wedding it is that good. Our favourite dishes would have to be the legendary vegan hot dog, the mushroom burger with tofu, deli salads and a great sunday roast. For dessert fans you have to order the sticky toffee pudding as it is divine, although they also do a mean pecan tart and carrot cake too. They also serve vegan wine and beer and a great selection of teas and smoothies. I cannot really fault this cafe except maybe it is isn't open on evenings. Maybe that will happen one day, let's hope so, as I would be there is a flash.

Pros: Great vegan food, Super friendly staff, Inexpensive

Cons: Only open during the day

Great restaurant! - Edit

They have a huge amount of choices for Vegans here. There are 2 cases as you walk in with cakes and salads. I had the mushroom/tofu burger and it was delicious. All the deserts on display were Vegan. The orange/chocolate cake was moist and hit the spot. Highly recommend.

Lovely - Edit

Such a wonderful atmosphere with plenty of seating space and really friendly staff, all the cakes were vegan and I was so happy with how much choice there was for vegans. Practically everything either was or could be made vegan! The quiche was amazing and the cake I tried was probably one of the best vegan cakes I have ever had - no joke. Defo coming back to this place!

Pros: lots of vegan options, lots of seating space, friendly staff

A real treat in York - Edit

Goji is small but really cosy, with an enticing window display of cakes (about 50% vegan) and then a tight squeeze past the popular deli counter. Once you do manage to get in and hopefully get a table, the food is tasty and reasonably priced. There is seating on the ground and first floors, with toilets way up on the second. The menu has plenty of vegan options, all clearly marked, and the Sunday roast is a real treat. I've had the falafel there before and been a bit disappointed, but everything else has been amazing and the service is usually fast and friendly, especially from those behind the counter. The cakes are delicious, and vegan ice cream/cream are readily available, and the hot drinks (including hot chocolate) are great.

Outstanding - Edit

In common with other reviewers I had a problem with an ordered item not arriving (the marshmallow that was supposed to go on my hot chocolate), but when it finally did materialise Goji gave me a discount on the rest of the bill so I was very happy (especially as both hot chocolate and marshmallow were delightful). This is a very tall thin building with little space and hard-to-reach toilets, but the food is amazing. I made a simple order, just a veggieburger (quinoa and sweet potato). One would think it was impossible for that to be interesting, but it was the best burger I have ever had. It had an almost unbelievable sophistication of texture and flavour, crispy and tender exactly where it should be, seasoned very thoughtfully and served at just the right temperature. I probably sound very silly rhapsodising about a veggieburger but the cake was also excellent. I will go again as soon as possible.

Pros: Food is spectacular, vegan marshmallows, nice décor

Cons: Forgetful staff, cramped

Lovely yorkshire veggie cafe - Edit

We visited here twice on a two night stay in York, and would have come again if we'd had the time.
First time was a lunch time visit on a friday, staff were friendly and the cafe was busy. The menu was great, vegans well catered for, unlike some veggie places we've visited. I had vegan quiche of the day- roasted cauliflower with roast potatoes and salad, it was restaurant quality food. My husband had asian tofu and veg skewers on rice, (which was like a rissoto) We really enjoyed our dishes, great portion sizes too.
We had the most wonderful yorkshire sticky toffee pudding for afters- made fresh on site. It was lovely.
We also visited on saturday morning for breakfast- we were first in. I had sundried tomato and roast veggie frittata my husband had tofu and quinoa rissole. Filling and tasty breakfast - set us up for the day. However we did take away some liquorice cake and ginger loaf (because we couldn't resist)- supplied to goji by leeds bakery, That old chestnut vegan bakery.

Pros: Great food, choice and quality, Lovely friendly atmosphere and staff, Great value for money

My favourite - Edit

I love Goji and go as often as I can. It's a lovely place to sit in for a proper meal, but I more often get a take away to eat in the garden of the nearby York Minster. They do big boxes of really delicious mixed salads that vary every day. It's a great restaurant, go!

Pros: really excellent food, Lovely staff, Did I mention the excellent food?

Brilliant - Edit

Me (vegan) and my mother (meat lover) went here on the 5th August and we absolutely loved it. The vegan quiche was fab and apparently so was the veggie one (mother's opinion!). I've had the take away from here many times and it never disappoints, if you only pop in for one thing make sure it's the daily vegan chocolate cake, all variations are absolutely delicious!
Not bad prices at all, very generous portions and all the drinks are organic - oh and there's even a outdoor area with hanging baskets full of tomatoes and flowers! Great place for everyone to eat, no matter what dietary requirements.

Pros: Good Price, Good Atmosphere, Good Portions

Fabulous food - Edit

We ate here after watching the Tour de France in York - they had an excellent selection of vegan food, the Portobello burger with smoked tofu was succulent and tasty and highly recommended. The cakes looked fabulous, so I had to follow it with coffee and poppy seed cake.
Everyone was really friendly and the prices were reasonable, I'd love to go again, but alas it is over 150 miles away from where we live.

Highly recommended!

Pros: Great food, Great atmosphere, Good prices

Cons: Too far away from where I live

Fantastic Cafe - Edit

My husband and I have eaten at the Goji cafe twice; once last year and once on 27 April 2014. Both times we enjoyed the food and there are always plenty of vegan options. The food is very fresh and well-presented, although sometimes the portions are a bit small. Both times we didn't have much time, and service was slower than we would have anticipated for such a small cafe and so few customers, so we had to inhale our food, but it was still good nonetheless. It's great to have a vegan/vegetarian restaurant choice in York.

Pros: quality food, all vegan and vegetarian

Cons: slow service

Exceptional Food - Edit

Visited Goji on three separate occasions during a short-break in York. I'm vegan and found they had a good choice each day. Tried three savoury dishes and three sweet - every single one delicious! Nice relaxed atmosphere too. Highly recommended. Next time I visit the city, I'll be making a bee-line for this place.

Pros: Excellent Food, Nice Atmosphere, Reasonably Priced
