Lovely!!

All cakes are now vegan and most of the specials seemed to be too. In fact, it was only the frittata and dairy quiche that seemed to be not vegan. Sunday nut roast with mini vegan Yorkshire pudding was lovely. Not a huge portion for £9.95 but tasty! Large selection of cakes and take away available too. Lovely helpful staff too. This is not a cheap option but it is good quality.

Revisiting in 2024. The state of the decor is really deteriorating. The carpets are filthy and the toilet leaves a lot to be desired. Still great food and hard to get a table. Staff rushed off their feet. But it really could do with a freshen up and a deep clean.

Pros: No meat mainly vegan

Cons: Not cheap, Can get very busy and be difficult to get a table , Getting grubby

Top notch afternoon tea

Though this cafe is vegetarian, it is about 80% vegan. I liked the fact you can have a dairy afternoon tea, or an exact equivalent vegan one, meaning non vegan friends are more likely to want to come with you. And it is immaculately presented on tiered cake stands worthy of a fancy hotel, at a fraction of the price. Everyone stares when it is brought out and wishes they had ordered it. And is enormous so you take away what you can’t eat for later. They could just serve these which is obviously their speciality, and everyone would be happy, but they have a varied menu including platters, salads and even a burger. Have enjoyed everything I have eaten in here.

Pros: Side by side vegetarian and vegan equivalents, Afternoon tea worthy of fancy hotel

Cons: None

Wow!

Looking for vegan food in York and stumbled upon this fantastic little place!

Went for the hot dog/burger takeaway box that comes with wedges and cake!

My first vegan hotdog and it was absolutely delicious.

Will definitely be back!

Oh, and the staff were amazing too.

Decidedly average

Upon arrival and being seated, we then waited for a good 25 minutes to be served. We were on the brink of walking out. The place was averagely busy, so no excuse really.

The food finally arrived and was decidedly average. Many elements of the breakfast were cold. The mushrooms and fried potatoes were great, the bread was dry and we had to ask for spread. The pickled onions felt a bit misplaced on a breakfast, and the spinach should have been left alone. Instead it came in cream(?), which was odd and not that pleasant.

The coffee was OK and it was nice to get a single cafetiere of it.

All round, it was a poor experience. It felt like a tired place in need of a tidy up. It seemed like the owners/waiters are just going through the motions of running an average business. This place needs some tlc.

Pros: Nice building with potential , The cafetiere coffee

Not been here for far too long

I’ve enjoyed the food here every time I’ve been - it’s just been too long. They have a great vegan range both for dining in and take out. Obviously the dining in menu is dearer than the take away options. If eating on a budget just get something from the takeaway counter and you won’t be disappointed

Pros: Great vegan range , Excellent food , Friendly, helpful staff

Cons: Dining in pricing maybe more restaurant than cafe

Busy Saturday

We visited on sunny Saturday in April. The service was pretty bad, very slow, took 20 mins even to get our drinks. My in-laws said their coffee was tasteless. The menu looked delicious, lots of whole foods, but when we got served it, almost 45 mins after we arrived, I have to say it was fairly bland. My husband and I had two different platters, there were some really nice items, but I wasn’t particularly impressed. We ran out of time to order dessert which we had looked forward to since we saw it in the window when we arrived. I visited the toilet upstairs, the carpet up the stairs was filthy. The decor in the whole places was faded and wallpaper peeling, the menus were grubby, really needs some attention. The wait staff seemed tired and overrun, some were surly, there was one very friendly guy but he ended up not being our server after seating us, I think the kitchen was probably just too small to cope for the number of covers they have.

Nice afternoon tea - vegan quiche was outstanding

A bit of a old-fashioned healthy vegetarian cafe but lots of vegan options including an entire vegan afternoon tea! The savouries were particularly good, especially the quiche!
There were two whole slices of cake which were too much for us so we took a slice home.
Service was a little slow, and the room where we were was a bit soulless, but staff were friendly.
They offer a takeaway picnic service too, probably a good shout!

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Really good quiche

Cons: Slightly weird vibes

Crazy staircase lovely food

Food lovely, cashew cream pie choice of wholesome salads very satisfying. You do need to be akin to a mountain goat if you want to use the loos and be warned that the staircase has a bend and you might meet staff coming in the other direction laden with food/plates. Would definitely recommend for takeout, although expect to queue...I wouldn't sit in again due to the challenging staircase to get to the loos.

Pros: Wholesome food options, Friendly helpful staff

Cons: Stairs a liability imho

NIce little almost 100% vegan café

Goji is something of a York institution. It started life as a vegetarian café but seems to have become more & more vegan with each passing year. Now pretty much everything on their menu is vegan - though do ask if you are unsure as there is still some dairy here & there.

The food is always of a high standard. Nothing mindblowing but good, solid fayre. Their Middle Eastern or salad platters are always a good option. Their burgers are also pretty tasty, as are their soups & wraps. Daily specials mean there's always something new to try. Oh and their cakes are great!

Pros: Reliable quality , Friendly staff, Relaxed vibe

Cons: Not quite 100% vegan, Not very accessible as its an old building

Delicious choices

Tasty options and colourful salads. Small, pretty courtyard and indoor eating area. My falafel salad was huge and tasty (served with beetroot &apple sauce, hummus and tabbouleh plus another - I chose the carrot and pomegranate salad). My partner had a hefty vegan hotdog with pickled red onions and mustard etc - he was ‘very happy’ with portion size and taste. Cake choices were fab. Heartily recommend the lemon meringue and the Bakewell tart (both vegan and more tasty than I remember dairy versions ever being!).

Pros: Choices of savoury items, Gorgeous cakes, Good vfm (and a loyalty scheme)

The best vegan restaurant in York.

We have visited many times on our trips to York and it never disappoints. Delicious, nutritious, well-cooked and presented plant-based food. So lovely to be presented with a choice of delicious vegan options!

On this visit we had the cashew quiche with salads, followed by the blackcurrant ‘cheese’-cake (no cheese) and delicious coffee (as good as any in York!).

If only Gogi would open a branch hereabouts (Whiby would be good).

Pros: Excellent food, good value for the quality given., Very friendly staff., Good portions, nice vibe.
