A Lovely, Cosy Vegetarian Restaurant - Edit

We've been to The Blooming Cactus many times over the last few years and always loved it.

The menu is excellent and a large proportion of it is vegan.

The veggie chilli (soya mince) is recommended as are the satay, falafel and hummus. In fact we've enjoyed everything on the menu that we've tried.

The owners are also absolutely lovely and the restaurant itself is cosy and candlelit. Perfect for couples, solo diners or families.

Pros: Great Vegan Choices, Friendly Staff, Relaxed, Cosy Atmosphere

Cons: Poor Alcohol Choice

Flavoursome, delicious Tapas! - Edit

Located a couple of minutes walk away from the port of Puerto del Carmen, this restaurant is a gem! We had the Fasulakia, Vegetable Satay and hummus and pita bread between two of us. This was just the right amount. The flavours were incredible and the food felt truly comforting and nourishing, you could tell that the ingredients were fresh. For pudding, we had the vegan dark chocolate tart which was rich and tasty- a good finish to a lovely meal. Couldn't think of any improvements for the food and we'll hopefully go back before the end of our holiday.

Although the restaurant wasn't busy, there was a homely feel and the lighting and temperature of the place was just right. Glad to have found this place- would recommend highly!

Pros: Tasty food, Good location, vegan pudding option!

Pros: Muchas opciones veganas

Amazingly vegan - Edit

Lovely food I'd really recommend the falafel and the vegan chilli
The prices are reasonable
It's a great idea to order a large selection of tapas to share so you can try nearly everything
The service was speedy
The wine is very poor however and the server was unfriendly

Great place! - Edit

Many vegan options including vegan cakes! I came here twice during my stay in Lanzarote but weirdly the food was better the first visit. Still a great place though with a good atmosphere. They curry was really good and they had vegan wine. A little expensive for the size of the portions but I would still recommend.
Staff were very helpful and polite.

Pros: Vegan cakes!, Vegan wine!, Helpful staff

Cons: A little expensive, Could offer vegan cheeses , small-ish portions

Lovely vegan place - Edit

I have just visited The Blooming Cactus in Lanzarote and was very impressed. It is a little far from the main strip but it's a lovely walk along the harbour. The place is ran by two lovely English women who were very friendly and talkative, there is a black dog the hangs around who is very friendly.

The menu is good and everything is veggie with vegan options, all homemade and organic where possible, also have wheat free options.

To start we had hummus with pitta breads and then we had madras curry and a satay curry. All very nice, all food is prepared by a professional vegan cook. Prices are around €8.50 for main meal and have to order rice separate for around €2.50, starters are around €3/4, serving sizes are large, we could not finish main courses.

The place does not open until 6 and is closed on Sunday.

Would highly recommend a visit as it is quite difficult to find anywhere to eat in Lanzarote if vegan.

Pros: Great food, Friendly owners & dog, Cosy place

Cons: Tad pricey but worth it.

nice visit - Edit

Friendly welcoming cafe - worth a visit. Falafels a bit bland and breadcrumby but the other dishes were pretty good. The red salad was supposed to have pomegranate in it. This had been replaced by strawberries - it would have been nice to have been warned. I quite wanted a dessert but only one on offer. A choice would have been nice.

Disappointing - Edit

Had one meal here last year. The vindaloo was not particularly spicy (either in heat or taste), the falafel to start were quite dry and did not taste of middle eastern spices and fresh herbs as they should - tasted more of veg stock. They had only one desert on offer - rocky road, which is a pretty poor choice by the restaurant if they can only offer one desert, and also not suitable for my vegan partner.
I can't recall the detail of the menu now, but none of it seemed to use local ingredients/style of cooking. I felt that a veggie restaurant in lanzarote should be using lots of fresh veg and herbs and not be making standards like veggie curry and chilli, especially as they obviously cannot get the spices and herbs they need.
The owner was welcoming and the service was fine. The venue was nice and cosy.

Pros: Friendly owner, nice venue

Cons: Poor quality food

Every time it was closed - Edit

Last summer we went to Lanzarote and walked two times over 3 kilometers to the "Blooming Cactus". Both times it was closed without a notice at the door or something.

Cons: closed

Happy vegetarian - Edit

Having travelled to Lanzarote for many years I was excited when we found that there is a vegetarian restaurant in Puerto Del Carmen. On our resent visit during March 2012 we made 2 visits to the restaurant. We tried a different selection of food on each visit and I have to say all tasted wonderful. The dishes were served tapas style and each portion was more than ample. On our second visit we had the vegan chocolate cake which I describe as yumtious. The staff are very helpful when ordering food and also friendly when chatting with them. Overall I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, make sure if holidaying in Lanzarote that you make a visit.

THE CACTUS IS BLOOMING AMAZING! - Edit

Before our trip to Lanzarote we searched online for a vegetarian restaurant and found the Blooming Cactus. The online reviews we read were very encouraging and we could not wait to sample the fare!

We made a short walk to the Blooming Cactus and on our arrival we found ourselves in a wonderful little restaurant with an ambiance that made us feel like we would never leave! The quaint decor was was so enticingly relaxing and the music was perfect.....the girls know good music.

Having been welcomed by Rebecca we felt like old friends instantly. We ordered our meal and when it arrived I can say that as a believer that you taste food with your eyes and sense of smell initially I immediately knew that we would enjoy what had been prepared for us.

We were to spend 3 of our 7 evenings in Lanzarote dining in the Blooming Cactus enjoying Falafel, Humus, Saganaki, Greek Lemon Potatoes, Dhal, Mousaka and the Greek Salad of which all could have come from the kitchen of the world's most famous restaurants...they could not be faulted. To boot, the pricing is amazingly affordable....certainly value for money.

The highlight for us however was without doubt the Courgette Rosti and Fasulakia. There are no words that can describe these dishes and truly do their remarkable standard justice. I could try but I genuinely can not find a combination of words to explain how stunningly beautiful they were. They are a must order!

Whilst a restaurant is mainly judged on the quality of the menu and the comfort in surroundings the Blooming Cactus can offer something to diners that many restaurants will fail to deliver. Amazing staff. Many restaurants will encourage staff to be friendly but I can only say that neither Tracy or Rebecca would need encouragement....they are wonderful people and you can feel that they have hearts that are blessed with beauty.

They run an amazing restaurant and they deserve all of the treasures which turn up on their path during life's journey. Wonderful people who produce wonderful food.

We are already looking forward to our return to the Blooming Cactus. When leaving on our last night we were embraced and wished well with a warm hug from the girls.....I can be sure that on our return we will be welcomed by an embrace too.

My hat goes off to two beautiful people and a little pocket of perfection that they have created in Lanzarote. We wish you the very best and look forward to meeting with you again!

Many thanks,

Peter and Mariann

Pros: Pricing, Food Quality, Athmosphere

Very friendly, nice food, nice atmosphere - Edit

Only vegetarian/vegan restaurant on the island (for all I know). We went there twice on our one weeks stay. (Still it was not as hard to find vegan food as I have been on my earlyer visits to Spain.)
Very friendly staff. Vegan options clearly marked. Food was mediterranean meze type, in-expensive portions, it is best that you order few more dishes than there are eaters and share it all.
Cozy place with candles on tables.

Delightful and delicious. - Edit

We enjoyed a fantastic tapas spread with plenty of vegan choice (including pudding) earlier this week. Relaxed atmosphere, nice selection of food and drink and a friendly vibe. Busy enough to have a great buzz but not so busy that you had to book.

Pros: tasty range of vegan dishes, good price, puddings too

Blooming marvellous! - Edit

We visited this restaurant in March 2011, and ate there two nights of our stay, as it was so good. Reasonably priced food, a good selection to choose from - from tapas and meze to main meals and desserts. My vegan husband was very taken with the enormous slice of chocolate cake he had, he normally struggles to find anything to eat at all in PDC! Great relaxed ambience, music, but not too loud, tasteful meditteranean decor and soft lighting, I could have sat there all night! The proprietors were friendly and attentive, full of local knowledge. Would definitely recommend, its Puerto Del Carmen's no 1 veggie restaurant!

Pros: Excellent food, healthy, friendly staff

Rare Delight - Edit

A well needed and very enjoyable place, essential when drowning in the sea of English breakfasts and brash interiors that account for a large portion of the eating otions in Peurto Del Carmen.

Delightful - review in their new home ! - Edit

The listing is a little out of date, although address is correct, as they opened in Puerto Del Carmen only 10 days before we first visited - and they were so good, we went back on New Year's Eve. We would certainly have visited more often, but have an Apartment, so generally cook at home, but we spotted this lovely little place and, like most regulars / residents, are always on the look-out for something new, and the girls just blew us away ! They are open for Lunch & Dinner, and the Menu is really lovely, as its kind of tapas, with a Greek tendencies.... So delightful to have a wide range of small dishes, and you will be spoilt for choice, so you can have a bit of lots of different things ! The food was absolutely delicious, and clearly prepared with tender loving care. You can tell when someone really puts their heart into their cooking....
You have to try this place. The decor is charming, seating comfortable and music just right (background - an eclectic mix of nice sounds but not intrusive). We are not veggies, but its not obligatory. We told everyone we spoke to to try the Bloomin' Cactus. I hope they do well - we are looking forward to our next visit.! A couple of ideas - try a little lemon in the Risotto - have Cheese pies with Spinach too ?

Pros: Excellent Food, Delightful Ambiance

Cons: a bit off the beaten track (also a PRO!)

great initiative! - Edit

We ate at the Blooming Cactus two times during our stay in Lanzarote and we loved it.Very friendly service and great inexpensive food, also for ake out. They serve vegetarian, vegan and wheatfree food. Have a look at their website as far as opening hours are concerned, as the above review is not correct, they close at 7.00 pm. They were a bit hard to find at first as they are inside the playa Flor apartments! In short: great initiative to start a place like that on Lanzarote!

Pros: geat food, friendly service, good portions

Cons: hard to find
