Delicious

Literally a vegetarian restaurant in a woman's kitchen, I loved it.
Had the thin noodle vegetable soup for $1.50 with a lemon tea (unfortunately no soya drink left). Was covered in mushrooms, spring onion and spinach. The broth tasted delicious and everyone on their menu is vegetarian.

Pros: Felt like being at home, Very cheap!

Cons: Vegan options are limited

Really good

I eat breakfast here a lot. It's a proper Khmer noodle soup breakfast spot, so don't expect it to be super clean or fancy. The food is always great here, and they do some wizardry with mushrooms to make it look so much like beef it's unbelievable. I have had to swat cockroaches off my table whilst eating here though.

I really recommend going here for breakfast if you want a pretty authentic local experience and some damn good soup at about 5000 riel a bowl.

Pros: Delicious, Cheap

Cons: Dirty

Really yummy food

Had a very tasty lunch here - really nice soy and eggplant dishes and a very friendly family running things. Wish we had more time here so that I could try more of their dishes! So many other places I also want to try now though!

Pros: Yummy, Very cheap, Friendly service

Great and cheap!

Super sweet family owned restaurant, the owners are Chinese-Cambodian. The first night I arrived I got in pretty late and I was looking for food, I didn't realize they close at about 2 PM. So when I walked up I saw the ladies making baozi ( Chinese stuffed steam bun) and I asked where else I could eat if they were closed, they were so sweet that they just gave me one. Probably they feel the struggle too!
As I promised them, I went back the next morning for breakfast and got a tasty spicy red soup. I was so afraid that the "meat" was real because of the texture! They showed me that it was made from mushrooms, and actually brought out the bag of mushrooms to assuage me! Haha. I also got a black bean soy milk which they make with or without sugar for you. It can also be served hot or cold. Many other kinds of soy milk available too. As well as an iced coffee with soy milk! This is a must know for any vegan travelers in the area! For everything it was around 8000 which is a total steal.
The next morning I went back again and I got another veggie soup for 4000. Very tasty and had tofu "meat" balls in it! Love them, I would eat here every day if I could!
The other veggie place, Battambang vegetarian, seems to have been owned by the same family, and now they're just operating in the same shop? As far as I can tell at least. So don't bother going there, just go straight here. It's just up the street from the Asia hotel, which is where I was staying, so that was very convenient.

Pros: Super nice family , Very cheap, Coffee with soy milk

Cons: A bit dirty

Cheap and cheerful!

A great little local eatery where we were the soul travellers. We shared a table with a local guy as, at 8:30, the place was packed. Very friendly service and helpful people (both staff and customers) to assist us to order! Generous portions too!!

Pros: fresh soy milk with no sugar!, English menu , $1.25 meals

Cons: some egg and milk in pastries

cheap but dirty restaurant

I thought it was easy to find. just take the road (called 2nd street) leading diagonally from the central market up North and look out for nr. 505
i went there at like 3pm. only 1 staff could speak a Little english, but it was enough. they have a menu in english with a few Options. Prices displayed in Riels, most dishes around 4500 Riel, so very cheap.
Restaurant looked really dirty though. I ordered the Curry with Khmer traditional noodles because it sounded like something Special.
i basically got a bowl of pre-cooked Curry soup which was then reheated plus noodles added. noodles were not Special at all, just plain instant noodles. didn't like it very much. Okay to eat but all in all quite disappointing.
this Restaurant is listed in lonely planet "SEA on a shoestring" as well under "vegetarian Foods Restaurant".
in General: disappointing, i don't know where all These good Reviews come from!

Pros: vegetarian only

Cons: not tasty, dirty

Around the petrol station

The Mercy ( on a corner, no english name on the front but: WIFI WELCOME written on the door) as well as the 2nd veg rest nearer to the NH-5(no name only written "vegetarian" amongst khmer language outside on a sheet at the front) are 60m away from each other. Both at the end of La He Road and NH-5. Around the petrol station. Both are hard to recognice but certainly do exist.

Food for the journey!

Lovely owners, very friendly and spoke enough English to explain what was on offer. We bought take away food here early for our bus journey to Phnom Penh and it was just what we needed- some rice, a noodle dish and some mock meat thrown in for good measure. Very cheap and ideal!

I can't stress enough how important it is to have food like this available in Asia when you're veggie, because long journeys either don't stop at all, or will stop at small places with no options for you. It pays to be prepared!

Pros: convenient, cheap

Good News!!

This restaurant is now open until 8pm. I suspect they do run out of things however. Dumplings were sold out at noon when we were there. The food is super delicious- very flavorful and sooo cheap.

Pros: excellent food, great prices, local, not touristic

Tasty and cheap!

I prefer this place to Mercy House which is right nearby, though Mercy House's hours are certainly more fitting with my schedule!

Both times I went they were almost completely sold out so I ate whatever was left. First, a curry noodle soup and second, a rice soup. Both delicious! The soy milk is good and also absurdly cheap.

Seems to close around 11:30 or 12:00, but the food runs out often before then.

Pros: Cheap, Wholesome, Tasty

Cons: Only open in AM

Cheap tasty and quick

This little place is great. Classic asian canteen style serving lots of locals. Delicious noodle soups, steamed filled buns and home made hot and cold soy milk. Lots of fake meat choices. Great for veggies who want to eat local cheap food. They also do food to take away. English spokem and menu

Pros: Cheap, Delicious, Quick and friendly

Cons: only open mornings

simple, basic, wholesome affair

One of the staff told me they're open mornings from 6 to 11:30. Plenty of locals were dining here which is always a good sign.

I'm not big on savouries for breakfast so I grabbed some take-away for my lunch on the bus trip back to Phnom Penh.

I ordered 3 deep-fried (read: VERY deep-fried) spring rolls and pickled crisp vegetables; and a serve of thin rice noodles with mushrooms (very yummy), no egg (all up under 1 US dollar). However the first serve of noodles i received had sliced boiled egg on it, but they fixed it the second time around! Seems to be a family business, genuine and friendly people.

A bit of advice if you get take-away: if the rubber band is too tightly wound around the top of the plastic bag to open it (as mine was), stab it with your chopsticks to open it and get the food out!!

My favorite breakfast stop!

This is a very modest establishment, but the fact that they can afford to limit their hours to the morning rush is enough to indicate the quality of their food. There are rice, noodle dishes, and rice buns (bun bao/noum bao). My favorite is the rice porridge/congee (boboa) with bits of tofu that is YUM! I never thought vegetarian rice porridge could taste soooo good. And the price - at 2000 riel per bowl - very right.

Pros: Great food, Healthy, Awesome value

Cons: Open only for breakfast
