Expensive, poor quality food
07 Apr 2012
I went for lunch here with some friends. The first thing that was noticeable was the crowded dingy dining area. The prices for everything on the menu were exorbitant. Next the food quality was terrible. There was also only one server for the whole dining area.

Good Comfort Food
31 Mar 2012
I have been to Native Foods only once before this visit (at the Chicago loop location). Once again, the food was good! I visited this location with non-vegan friends. This time I got the Daily Special, Portobello & Sausage Burger with Sweet Potato Fries. The Portobello was grilled perfectly and had amazing flavor. Together the Burger was very well paired and tasted excellent. My friends got the Nuevo Native Nachos,Oklahoma Bacon Cheeseburger, and the Twister wrap. I would recommend the nachos and the Portobello & Sausage Burger. I think Native Foods tried to hard to make the Cheeseburger resemble a meat cheeseburger. It has a lot of seitan on it which for me ruined the taste. I would also recommend the Chicken wings over the Twister wrap. My friend ended up buying a chocolate frosted cupcake. The frosting and cupcake was amazing! Their lavender lemonade and Native Iced Tea are excellent drinks.

Amazing Comfort Food
31 Mar 2012
This was my first Native Foods that I had ever been to. They have good comfort foods. I tried the chili cheese fries and the Native Chicken Wings. Both were really good, however, the Native Chicken Wings did freak me out a bit. Your first time at Native Foods, you can sign up for their card and you get a free drink. Their drinks also have free refills. They have three to choose from, Lavender Lemonade, Watermelon Fresca, and Native Iced Tea. I thought the Lavender Lemonade and the Native Iced Tea were the best! The best thing about Native Foods is that it is a vegan restaurant, so I could order anything on the menu!!!

Sunspot Runs a Monopoly in West Lafayette
12 Dec 2011
While I am glad that we have a natural food store that sells some vegan food items, Sunspot is over priced and has little variety. Since Sunspot is the only natural food store in West Lafayette, it has basically no competition so it can price things ridiculously high. I think they market less toward vegans and more toward meat eaters who want vitamins and supplements. Their section of vegan food is probably smaller than the section in Payless next door. I would much rather travel the distance to go to Whole Foods in Indianapolis than visit Sunspot. Buying things online is also a cheaper option. Natures Pharm in Lafayette has a better selection than Sunspot. They cater more toward vegans. However, they can be just as pricey as Sunspot. If you live in West Lafayette it is a good 30 minutes drive to Natures Pharm making it an unlikely option too.

Comfort food and other treats
07 Apr 2012
I grew up in Chesterton so I was excited when my family told me that Local Flavors opened. Local Flavors is a family run store and restaurant. I have been there several times and have tried almost all of the sandwiches that are on their menu. I would recommend the Vegan Gyro and Vegan Pub Sandwich. Although pricey for just a sandwich and plain chips (7.50), they are a good treat once and a while. They also sell Chicago soy dairy Ice Cream and have a store with vegan faux meat, soy cheeses, and other processed items. Their store items can be a bit pricey as well. They usually have a fresh baked good for sale as well, which are usually tasty.
They also have meat options and dairy Ice Cream from Valpo Velvet.

Poor food and drinks
07 Apr 2012
I went here once while I was a vegetarian. Their menu is limited. Their coffee drinks are poor quality; they tastes like they were store bought instant coffee drinks rather than coffee house quality. The food was also poor quality like others have mentioned. However, I have not had their baked goods. I would not recommend going here to eat or have coffee.

Awesome Vegan-friendly pizza place!
12 Dec 2011
The first thing that caught my attention was the Vegan-friendly menu. Menu Items that were vegan were identified on the menu. Even though teese (vegan soy cheese from Chicago soy dairy) is not listed on the menu, you can order it for your pizza. Teese is one of the best vegan cheeses I have tried. I love that even though I am a vegan, I can get a pizza with soy cheese! They also have amazing stone ground whole wheat crust as an option for their three types of crust, Hand-tossed, thin-crust, and deep-dish. Who would have thought that after going vegan you could have a wheat crust, deep-dish, vegan pizza which soy cheese at a restaurant?! Their Deep-dish pizzas are not greasy either. They have four Delicious appetizers that are vegan as well! To add more credibility toward the vegan friendliness of WB, WB pizza's owner's girlfriend is vegan. Hence, the vegan additions. I have personally been there four times and each time I get a glimpse of vegan heaven.
(one side note: If you order the whole wheat deep dish, expect to wait a while because it takes a long time to cook. The wait time is totally worth it though.)
