1298 Market St, San Francisco, USA

wonderful in a quirky way

this place has some excellent, nourishing food. The vibe might be a bit funny, but I always find it peaceful and friendly. It's a gem in its neighborhood. The lassis are fresh and amazing, the brown rice heavenly, and the faux-chicken chunks are addictive! Just the dahl and rice here makes me happy. Give it a chance!

I love this place. it is simple, soothing, and very satisfying. Set menu - you just choose brown or white rice and your beverage. Great deal, especially lunch. Indian thali style, all you can eat. Sometimes the food is amazing, sometimes just good, but you will always leave feeling very satisfied.

very disappointing

Maybe we were there on an off night, but my boyfriend and I had dinner here and it was really quite bad. Most everything was too salty and otherwise the flavors were bland, uninteresting. We had heard good things but were very disappointed and will not be back.

this is japanese food heaven. inventive, fresh, wonderful dishes. I first found this place 6 years ago, and even though I live in NYC now, everytime I'm in the bay area I must make a pilgrimage. You must love japanese food or at least be open to it to dig this place.

completely fabulous

this place is a true gem. Food is very tasty and very affordable. Each entree ($8-$9) comes with a choice of 3 sides. Service can be a bit slow at times, but everyone is friendly.

God I love this place. The 3rd ave location has a better ambiance than the west village one, in my opinion. But the food is simply delicious, creative, outstanding at both locations. Heavenly.

this place is absolutely excellent. A lovely shop with helpful staff. food, books, gifts, vitamins, toiletries, you name it. I haven't lived in the area in years, but always stop by Country Sun when I'm in town. A true gem.

My fiance took me here for my birthday. Lovely ambiance. The food was really great. You have to be willing to try different things. We chose the prix fixe option and ate some wonderful dishes we never would've picked on our own. Great for dates!

I used to work near Janta and ate at their wonderful lunch buffet often. Very tasty, well prepared food. Whenever I'm back in the area I make a point to stop in at least once. I've been going for nearly 14 years!

Other Avenues is an amazing health food store. Cooperatively run, so you can sign up for a shift and get a discount. They have a phenomenal selection of dry goods, spices, produce, books, etc. Truly a gem. I've lived in many places, and this is my hands-down favorite health food store.

You know, the food was just OK. The service wasn't rude per se, but was neglectful and inefficient. They brought my husband's entree and my side of raita (which could never be mistaken for an entree), and didn't realize they'd lost my order until I pointed it out to them. Better Indian food to be had elsewhere!

this place is a lot of fun. Go with a handful of friends - not too many b/c it's a small place. Most of the dishes are inventive and really tasty. The tempeh was too dry, but everything else was excellent. A very fun, foodie spot.

this place is a life saver. I live nearby and their quality vegetarian food with great variety is my staple. Nice community here - you get to know other regulars.

Amazing, but be VERY hungry!

05 Nov 2006

The food here is impeccably prepared. Divine north Indian food. I can't say enough about the quality. However, the portions are SO LARGE that I cannot imagine being able to finish even half of what they give you, and they do not allow you to take anything home. (Why?) So it did seem wasteful at the end, and I hate wasting food. Next time I go there I will make sure I am very very hungry (and maybe try to sneak some tupperware in my purse!)
