yat sum vegetarian - Edit

a hole-in-the-wall eatery, where most customers are likely to be elderly local folk dining alone. there's just enough space to walk down the aisle to squint at the menu and place your order at the counter, and you'll have to share tables when it gets crowded.

the first time i was there it was quiet; the second time, no thanks to a lady shouting into her handphone throughout the time i was there, made for a less than peaceful ambience. there's a "kaifong", neighbourhood vibe to the place, especially when customers spontaneously started asking each other about what they had ordered and offered to let others sample their dishes.

the daily menu with about nine options is cheap by hk standards (hkd23 for a veg dish with rice, 29 for a veg dish with rice + soup, +8 for each additional dish). they also have other a la carte options if that's not to your taste.

i ordered pumpkin with chestnut, and added four season beans. with soup, my meal came up to hkd37. it wasn't fantastic, but was good enough without being too oily, and more than filled me up. soup ingredients were generous.

the whiteboard menu is chinese-only, so going with someone who reads chinese would definitely make things easier.

3.5 stars.

Pros: neighbourhood vibes, cheap by hk standards

Cons: could do with more green veggie options

Tiny Place. GOOD food! - Edit

About 29 for the set lunch with soup.
They have about 8 options to choose from and they're quite varied and surprisingly delicious.

Wish they gave some more veggies but the portions are 40% veggies 60% rice.

Good food - Edit

Tiny restaurant, zero English. There are set menus, hk$50 or so. The lady who runs the place is friendly. Look for the green doorway. Food was good, but not great.

Pros: food, price, speed of service

Cons: lack of English

Lovely place - not quite the set up but the concept. No English menu but worth a go for ordering special of the day. My meal was yum
